I love this episode. The guest totally steals the show and his interaction with Gary is priceless

  • Awesome SHOW!!

Couldn’t stop laughing for the 3 last minutes!
(Roberts subtle and quiet humor is great!)

The last 10 or so shows has been one homerun after the other 😉

QOTD: Have flown many a time, but have never used these machines – I like the personal assistance and service as well.

P.S. – nice to see A DANE of all people, in the 2 last episodes (#630+31). (All though he was a bit stiff – we’re not all like that 😉 But he was allright 🙂

Hope you(Gary) can keep finding these super guests 😀
And hope you will continue with the long shows!

  • QOTD: I like the things, unless there’s a SUPER hot girl behind the counter.

As for the show, I’ve been looking to try a Cornas for a while but the price points have kept me away. This could be the one…

  • Gotta agree with Gary V. — in the morning, no makeup. Natural is best!

Oddly enough, I liked the last two episodes for the very reason others don’t. I, too, found Robert a bit pensive and quasi-esoteric, but that’s ok. I think it’s good to have shows where people 1) don’t agree with Gary; and 2) have personalities that are a little more austere. What I was left wanting is a sense of how much Robert knows about wine. I liked his passion about melding the terroir of food and wine. There’s a lot to be said about drinking wines and eating food grown in the same area because they tend to complement each other.

I feel like Robert was being polite with Gary about the Cornas. Robert clearly didn’t like the wine as much as Gary, and I wish he would more plainly said as much. That’s the great thing I take away from all these years with WLTV. I like what I like, and I know what I know. If you say you there’s a strong smell of asparagus on the nose and I don’t smell it. I’ll flat out disagree with you. I won’t sugar coat it to make you feel bad or good. Now, if I didn’t know the smell of asparagus, I’d fee up. Okay, all that to say I found the disagreement on the Cornas refreshing.

I find it a bit smug that Robert with say the question about Alaska is lame and then drop a tern on the tape about airport self-check kiosks. Talk about the pot and the kettle.

QOTD: I like the kiosks, but find them rather redundant–considering you still have to work with a representative to handle your luggage.

GV, You know this guy knows nothing about wine. Not a clue. Where did he steal the material to write a book.

Now Nicholas Joly, that gent was amazing, had me up to all hours of the night researching Biodynamics. Say it how I see it. I am sure you prefer it that way.

Hi Gary – This 2 part episode didn’t bring the THUNDER FOR ME unfortunately….Part 2 didn’t hit the topic of terrior very well from the guests point of view…it just didn’t do it for me.

qotd – automatic check-in counters are just great….

I gotta say after sitting through two parts of that, I kept waiting for something. For a writer he seemed at a loss for words. Maybe GV introduced him as the guy who read the book ,not wrote the book.

  • Buddhachu

Lame guest. One big advertisement for a book.

As said before, If he was a “big fan” of the show, he’d know the flow of the show and have a QOTD ready. I know I would.

You are the weakest link lame guest, goodbye.

  • The first 2 minutes of Part 2 were painful to watch, and I think i’m gonna have to stop this one here.

“I love the expression of Syrah in Northern Rhone, great to follow it from South to North”… That sounds exactly the opposite the idea of being able talk about wine your own way. That sounds like some ‘winery marketing speak’..

Gary – maybe you set the bar a bit too high with your recent previous guests.

SO looking forward to tomorrow’s viewer chosen episode!

    OK–here goes…

This is the episode that gets me off my lurking ass. I’ve been enjoying your shows for a while now and am learning a lot; thanks for that! I like your zany style and respect your effusive knowledge, palate, blah, blah, blah.
But I gotta tell you, man, you really suck at interviews!!! Jesus Christ: will you shut the fuck up long enough to let people speak their own mind? OK, we get it: you’re ADD. Talk about rude! Never mind that this guy was on qualudes–you were supposed to be interviewing HIM. This is where your “style” breaks down like boiling Bordeaux. It’s just wrong. And childish. You come off like suck a dick! I feel sorry for your employees because I’m sure you spend most of your time trying to prove you’re the smartest guy in the room. Am I right, Mott?
And speaking of Mott: as a serious amateur photographer, I laugh at your video skills! Most kids can do better with their cell phones! Unless you’re convinced that intentionally ignoring even the most basic concepts of lighting and audio are somehow endearing to your audience, PLEASE open a fucking book or take a Video 101 class. Enough with the shadows, echoes, reflections, and poor composition. It’s about time you guys evolve like the wines you speak so passionately about! Sheesh!
Whew! I feel so much better now–lol. Like I said earlier, I love your show and look forward to them daily. Keep up the good work–cheers!

FYI: What happened to talking about terrior? Very lame show, sorry.

Gary, I don’t have much to say about your guest other than he did not do the sale of his book much good. I am not sure whether he was over-powered by your personalty or he is not outspoken enough, but I don’t remember that he shared any particular insights about terroir and wine. So, I don’t have any great urge to read the book.

However, since this is your show, you have some responsibility for keeping the discussion on point, which did not happen in these two episodes. This surprised me since you are such a huge fan of terroir. I expected two episodes of wine-geek speak about the influence of nature, and that did not happen. Instead, we got a discussion about women with/without make-up. I get the make-up analogy, but this was rather blah. Sorry. In general I love what you do.

good show, but Gary could have asked the guest to tell him some terroir kind of stories. you know, to get his perspective a bit more. the tastings were useful. 1st part was better, more focused. who cares if the guy promotes his book? that’s why he’s a guest, and on the show, and not an ordinary viewer sitting at home. at least he’s out there, living in France, meeting people, writing books and stuff. it’s a great life. I know so, I’m from France myself. But, you know he said the main things, about food and place. like he said he’s not a wine critic, he’s a travel writer, into the people, food, and such. that’s what it is, over there. americans don’t understand this. they drink the wine disconnected from where it was grown, sitting in their homes, without knowing what the wine connects to, the land, the soil, the food, people, the terroir, the unique ecological and cultural niche that took centuries to evolve. it is significant. very. so, for that, glad to hear more, esp. after joly. so, we need this kind of perspective, not just wine scores. alors…. je m’en vais. ciao, mes amis!

Wow… this guy will mold his opinion to whatever Gary wants to hear. He is a very disappointing guest. We seem to have a writer who is simply trying to sell a book, despite no true passion for his topic. Where’s the terroir discussion in all of this? Looking forward to guests with real passion and knowledge for wine – like Nicolas Joly.

  • Geez, the poor chap had stage fright, which is easy to understand if you are placed in front of a camera and sitting next to Gary. The guy had passion and had the balls to write about it. Not everyone is as natural as Gary.
As for the question of the day, well that sucked!

Bien! I totally agree with Jean-Luc: your egoist karma ran roughshod over Robert’s dogma. It’s a wonder France even let you in–no class! This show was all about you; not your guest, not terroir. The interviewer sets the agenda, asking provocative questions, drawing the best out of his guest, and most importantly, listening to what he has to say.
I must say, Gary, after 600+ episodes, your act is wearing thin. The $50 Million Dollar Man with his fancy watch trying to play Joe Sixpack Blue-Collar Jets Fan comes off about as genuine as Sarah Palin. Make up your mind.
