line of the day – ‘this wine is very one-dimensional, and that dimension is water…and danger’

I find myself enjoying Gary’s asides, winks, frowns and general facial expressions almost more than the content these days. He was asking a lot of the Mottster to identify differences between the same wines opened at different times, and Mott duly appeared all at sea…poor Mott. Also a funny slapstick ending. Classic

QOTD: As my Facebook profile says, “Librarian, blogger, book lover, movie buff, wine, coffee, and martini affectionado, tango dancer.” Strong emphasis on the tango — I dance the Argentine style of tango and LOVE it 🙂

    • Gary,

My partner and I are (1) moving to Montpellier, France at the end of the month, so I am boning up on my southern French wines, getting excited for that, and (2) getting married in Pesaro, Italy, not too far from the Barone Cornacchia Azienda, so considering taking my bro there for a visit. He turned me on to wine library tv, so it is the least I can do.

Yo, Gary, don’t listen to those guys about cutting off your guests. Conan O’Brien does it all the time, and look at him. He’s 6ft10 and 150lbs. So, yeah.

Refreshing show, glad to watch a non two parter (though they are great, just a lot in a row).

Great ending to the show pouring out the piss water.

QOTD: My scene (as I’ve e-mailed, still waiting for the reply… 🙂 ) Is a US Army officer, living on the French side of the French/Belgian border. Researching, traveling, and tasting the finest beers and wines of the world, all from my back yard. When I get out the army, Colorado will see the greatest specialty coffee, wine, and beer cafe in the States.

    • Hey Gary

Nice idea with the opened wine Montepulciano D?abruzzo. I can’t believe you didn’t rate this area/varitael, the experiences I’ve had of Montepulciano D?abruzzo both as a value driven export and as a wine Italy had been pretty good.

QOTD: running, travel, rugby, fishing, visitors

      Cheers

    • Nice. Good idea on the Rueda show. I like the sort of tea-leaf aftertaste that most verdejo grape wines leave on the back palate. Also the semi-harsh acidity that you get sometimes when trying Spanish ham with them as well, it’s all good.

QOTD: Good one Gary Vee.- My scene is Architectural Design and Aviation. Commercial projects specifically Restaurants (home design as well). Architectural and experimental photography as well. Weekend flyer/pilot; The culinary arts are an obsession.

PS: Vino Nobile di Montepulcino is the house wine at L’Anfora Ristorante (one of my projects). If you’re ever down Santiago way, give it a try.

Funnily enough I’ve drunk too much Verdejo and find it quite boring. I think it may be that it is very similar to Sauv Blanc (possible relative/clone I think?) and I’ve drunk too much of that over the years.

Playing catch up on this weeks’ episodes today (Thurs), and glad I started with this one! Learned about yet another grape/ varietal; got a heads up about a wine to look for; and got to laugh, too, which I needed.

QOTD: In general, mom to 2 boys (16 & 21); contractor/carpenter’s wife, sweating out a deadly slow winter; RN working PT in dementia care; dgtr & point person for my Mom; horsewoman; good friend (I hope); active in our Episcopal church and our community; oh, and in my spare time enjoy learning about and drinking wine, gardening, reading & collecting books…

QOTD: Hey, that’s awesome: more Eide Bailly employees! I’m in the Fargo office doing IT security. I had always wanted to run my own business some day until I started working for EB, but I had just never worked in such an awesome company before.

      Regarding the show:
I’m 90% sure the glasses were switched during the sniffing!

When Gary thought he was tasting the 48 hour, he was actually tasting the new stuff. Go back and watch it closely and let me know if I’m wrong.

Great show that delivers as usual Gary,

QOTD: Software Engineer by day (and many nights), husband, dad, student pilot, aspiring photographer and Wine student by night and weekends. Throw in some mountain biking and racquetball and that should cover most of it. Oh yeah, I also cut my own grass. It’s much more than just taking in life, I really enjoy this stuff.

      Salud!

What? I didnt know you could leave wine out for 48 hrs! Now I’m into saving 1/2 empty bottles from last night’s party and drinking them instead of throwing in the trash.

That wine you poured out at the end of the show looked completely like water. How lame…

QOTD: What’s my scene? Working full time as a flight engineer in the US military. It’s fun stuff and keeps me busy. And lately have been really getting interested in the wine world. I was up to visit the Wine Library store yesterday, which was awesome.

QOTD: My scene. Don’t know that you’ll back read this but I am leading a campus ministry at the Univ. of Florida. We’re rockin’ the house down here. I am learning a lot about social media and trying to apply that stuff to what we’re doing.

    • Holy crap there are a lot of commenters here. I feel like I’m yelling at everyone in Texas Motor Speedway, except I have no reason to go there.

In any case, I recall that Montepulciano D’Abruzzo was discovered to be a Sangiovese clone. However, the Abruzzese would probably never admit to this. These Italian people are fiercely proud of their traditions.

QOTD: My scene is in massive flux since my wife is about to have our first baby.

Great show. Love Spanish white wines!

I am currently training for my first marathon down at the “Flying Pig” Marathon in Cincy the first weekend in May. Got into it through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) “Team in Training” program. My two year old niece Addison was diagnosed with Leukemia last June, so I joined the program in the fall to raise funds for LLS, not ever thinking I would do a FULL MARATHON–(I originally signed up for the half marathon and have switched over). Figured if Addison could do the treatment (spinal taps, steroids, and chemo) , I could raise funds and run a long distance on her behalf. I have three kids of my own and would never wish this disease upon any child or parent. The training has been challenging, but in the end, I am sure, will be very rewarding.

    • Great to see Rueda Verdejo getting some appreciation, I’m a big fan of Javier Sanz Villa Narcissa, both the “fresh” version and their Barrel Fermented offering – two great interpretations of the grape.

Good show, I’m falling behind in my viewing though, this is the first one I’ve caught in a couple of weeks (the “benefit” of a spare hour in the evening in an Israeli hotel!).

      LOL at the “final pour”

QOTD – “Empire – Total War” is my current life-waster distraction, Hugh Johnson’s “A Life uncorked” is my reading material, loved the recent BBC “Being Human” show (look out for it in the US!) and trying to decide whether to organise a trip to the East Coast this year (when’s the Vayniac Cab released?).
