Wines tasted in this episode:

2004 Barone Cornacchia Montepulciano D’abruzzo Le CosteMontepulciano d’Abruzzo

line of the day – ‘this wine is very one-dimensional, and that dimension is water…and danger’

I find myself enjoying Gary’s asides, winks, frowns and general facial expressions almost more than the content these days. He was asking a lot of the Mottster to identify differences between the same wines opened at different times, and Mott duly appeared all at sea…poor Mott. Also a funny slapstick ending. Classic

    • I sometimes like knowing what is bad or a failure to better appreciate what is good and succeeds. Also, getting a range of what you don’t like and what you really do like helps me match up my palette to yours. Great show!

QOTD: My scene is ramping up for Spring Break! Take the week before to prepare, enjoy the show, then slowly get back to reality.

      QOTD..
      What are we into??

We are both retired. We go to junk auctions every week (not the highest caliber of antiques). We sell a little on EBay. (Oasiz5)Collect a little; early american redware. Early American wrought iron and hearth cookwear.

We are renovating our antique house we’ve lived in for 35 years. Trying to get ready to sell; and downsize a little. Maybe travel a little.

We love to cook, home made pasta, sausage, meat balls, gravy. Braised meats, grilled meats, smoked meats & fish; home made jerky…and love to eat even more. Want to build a brick oven; maybe at our next house. To bake our own bread and make old world pizza!

We hang out with our 5 Grand; Grandchildren..and enjoy them very much!

That’s what you’ll be doing soon Grandma & Grandpa Vaynerchuk !!

    • Killer show again Gary… did not know alot about Verdajo but definitely will seek it out next time I need a food friendly white.

QOTD: Right now not too much… just moved to San Diego and trying to get settled “in this economy” (that’s like everyone’s new favorite line). Definitely trying to expand my knowledge of wine because let’s face it a good…no no… a great bottle of wine can make even the most awesomest of times even better!!

    • I have to try that last wine….

QOTD: Good wine, food, teas, cigars, traveling, photography, billiards, guitars, skiing, motorcycles, boating, baking, cooking, dining out…etc.
And not into sports at all….yeah, I know….!!!! Maybe boxing or golf.

I live on the water at the Jersey Shore all summer which by the way I have invited you many times…, so I spend most days on the boat. When I’m not boating I’m riding my Harley. I have some friends who are members of the HAMC and I ride with them whenever I get a chance on their runs in various states across the Country.

I smoke cigars like they’re going out of style which I know you hate, but you have been known to eat from time to time….lol

I collect art, hand guns, guitars, pool cues, S.T. Dupont lighters, Bibles.

I’m retired now approx. 16 years and I think with the real estate market coming to it’s bottom in the next 6 months to a year, maybe I am going to start looking at real estate and buy some properties which I will eventually sell in 3-5 years afterwards. Then retire again.

      But like I said…maybe??

I’m a big kid at heart and therefore kids love me. I like kids but don’t have any of my own. But if I ever do grow up I want to be just like you!!!!!! Oh yeah, I’m pres & founder of the be kind to animals or I’ll kick your a** club.

      That’s my scene…. 🙂

Oh…and still trying to get together with you for dinner now for over a year.

I’m going to seek out that Verdejo; always trying new varieties. For the ??? of the day, I’m into tea kwon do, as well as dog behavior. Just some things I do on the side.

By the way, what do you think of glassware for particular grape varieties? Are you in to the Reidel glassware idea?

      great show as usual

Just picked up 4 bottles of the 04′ Barone Cornacchia from your site. Arizona in the hizzee. Loved the show, as always. My scene, lifting weights, buying vinyl, reading like mad, watching Lost, and investing (art and stocks), not wine. I drink the wine baby! Vayniak for life.

My scene is graphic design, typography. Preparing for design college and leaving cert (Irish high school exams). Loving the web unconditionally at the moment and I am determined to start a good site over the summer. Also planning to start work on donation site for bands who give their music away for free.

      Love the show

      as for my scene

im a metal-head, i drink dark beers, listen to heavy music, and love my coffee black.

and now after seeing this episode, i need to find the montepulciano.

QOTD: Spanish white wine is one of the things I’m into. Rueda needed an appearance. Yet I fear the day attention shifts from Rias Baixas inland and Rueda price jumps ten bucks. It is such a versatile food wine.

Working contemporary fine dining and preparing for my level two Court of Master Sommeliers exam. Light semester at University, traveling in Europe this summer. Trail running every day, enjoying my lovely girlfriend.

      QOTD:
My scene is one of many hats, just not as many as you.

I am a recruiting manager for a sales consulting firm and have transitioned into doing more career coaching of late. I have been doing a fair amount of speaking engagements which I love and hope to do more. Lastly, I have co-created a business roundtable podcast series highlighted some of the best and brightest from around Michigan. This was in direct response to the declining economy and downsizing going on. Felt helpless with a struggling community and wanted to do something to give talented professionals a voice. Having a blast doing it!

Through networking and a passion for wine, I have planned a 50 person wine tasting event next Thursday where we will tape a couple podcast shows, drink some wine and eat great appetizers from local restuarants who are sponsoring for us.

I watch your shows, your speaking engagements and continue to learn and absorb the things that are working, namely follow your passion and work your face off.

Thank you for being a great role model for both the young and the old! Feel free to check out our podcast shows during your travels while you may have some downtime-> http://www.voicesofdetroit.com

First edition books, wine, surfing when I can, and planning a wedding.

Great show. Great enthusiasm. I like the way you changed it up and just said, “Hey, you need to know…”

My scene? Cycling, though it’s a bit cold in the T.O. right now, I’ll get back on the carbon fiber soon enough!

I rode (my bike) across California with small group of friends, last year from Seal Beach to Las Vegas in 3 days. When I got to Vegas I had a huge steak and downed a bottle of Ridge Geyserville… I love Zinfandel, and I love Ridge but this was the best bottle ever. Zinfandel never tasted so good! The rest of the weekend was a blur…

    • QOTD: When I’m not chasing around after my two kids (7 and 4) I am pursue photography, travel, food and more recently wine. I am pretty new to wine but, thanks to far too many visits to Wine Library over the past couple of months, my cellar is filling up and my palate expanding.

Gary great show! I literally spit coffee on my screen when you poured out that bottle!

QOTD: My scene is what it’s been for the last few years, cooking and wine. Though I’m starting to branch out some. I’m starting to make more soups, and playing alot with fish, when I can get it(not so easy in southern New Mexico)

QOTD….I am into food …..wine…friends….growing my garden(to share with friends, and to make great food to go with the wine I drink)…..going to wine events (with my friends…to get better ideas about food and wine pairings)

….that said, I am trying to get into shape….the better shape I am in the longer I will live(to hang out with friends and drink great wine …)

Do ya see a pattern here Gary!

    • Great show – I really appreciate the heads-up on the Monte d’Abruzzo…I had a cheaper one, a Valle Reale 2005 that ROCKED my world last week on a reco from Eric Asimov’s column. Way underrated region.

QOTD: My scene right now is Wierd Italian (and Slovenian?!) Whites – especially around Friuli. Slovenia is really where the value is imo.

Also – Bordeaux varieties in New Zealand. Hawke’s bay – Giblett Gravels area. Some under-the-radar wines that are way more interesting (to my pal) than Cali, WA, or Bordeaux itself, in general.

And Southern Italian reds. Burgundy-esque surprises for a fraction of the dough.

    • Brian from CLEVE! LAND!

Mad props to the El Perro Rueda. Love the acid. QOTD: Currently training for the cleveland half marathon. My first long distance race. The vinho verde’s are helping me through the struggle. I kept looking at your bobble head instead of you. What’s the deal… your charisma alone is not enough. Where can I get my own? P.S. Sportscenter just reported that T.O. just opted out of the bills for the jets. Just joking.
