speaking of which, that would be a highly relevant show considering the times (boxed wine). i have had some that was decent considering the price (black box, vendange), tho it is better to stick with the ‘value’ varietals (shiraz > cab sauv…)

I love the history of Bordeaux and get a kick out of how complex the classifications are, and how many layers there are from vineyard, to my fridge.

QOTD: Have spent almost the past two years building up our cocktail catering business here in the SF Bay Area, focusing on seasonal, organic ingredients. It’s been incredibly fun and rewarding, but also extremely challenging. Just like you say, every day is a hustle. A close friend told me about you and WLTV about 8 months ago and have been watching religiously.

Awesome show….. haha love pouring out the shit wine at the end. The question of the day, well CKC all the way. I started my Saturday night with a bottle of Kung Fu Girl Riesling and ended it at 4 am on the floor of my friends place. Just so you know, I shared the wine with everybody and didn’t pass out just staid up way to late. We all ended up drinking beer and a few Jägerbomb’s it nice to start the night with some class. I had seen you try Kung Fu Girl with wine maker Charles Smith (still one of my favorite Eps) and when I saw it in my go to wine store The Bottle Barn I picked it up. I liked it. It produced a feeling bubbles on the tongue. It tricked me a few time, I tried to swirl the glass and check if there were actually bubbles. Thanks a for doing the show, I have learned so much.

How about a on the best value wines anyone can get. Like they should be at you Safeway or Trader Joes or dare I say it BevMo. I like hearing about value plays but if I can only find it at the WinLib I get bummed.

QOTD: Right now my scene during the week mostly involves raising my 13-month-old daughter Brigid. Evenings and weekends it involves food, wine and photography, in variations on that order.

QOTD: I am in grad school at Mcgill studying business and trying to get into the wine game. I was just asked to man a booth at a California Wine expo. I loved the Montipulciano play … keep doing what you do its awesome!

QOTD: My two hobbies are exercising and learning about/tasting wine. When my kids are at school, I am either at the gym or I’m home watching WLTV. Of course there is more to my life but I won’t bore the Vayniacs. After 15-20 years in a non-wine career, I recently started a part-time job at a wine shop.

I love the Rueda wines. It’s been my go-to white for the last 18 months. Guests always like it. Casamaro Rueda was good and I can’t recall other names. I was disappointed with a 2007 Montori Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. It was a little boring.

Cool show Gary. I hope the Montepulciano is in the Wine Club B option, cuz that’s what I have.

QOTD: Right now I am on a vacation of sorts. I graduated NYU in December and am looking to go to law school in September. My ultimate dream is to work as an in-house council for wineries or vineyards and practice law relating to wine (hoping to go to UC Davis for that). I work on Long Island in a high-end steakhouse with a killer wine list. Wine is huge in my life. I eat sleep and breathe WLTV. And Patrice, another hardcore Vayniac (who saw you at the 92Y), and I, are saving for our wedding next year. Next week Patrice and I are going to Napa for a much needed vacation. We love what you do and hope you never stop!

BTW…never got a chance to say it, and seeing Lizzie at the Y on Sunday kinda reminded me….Congratulations on your new child. If you put a third of the passion your fans see every day into being a father, your child will be the happiest kid alive. Maybe a Facebook contest to name it? 😉 j/k

Gary, this episode was really fun – entertaining and informative. It’s great when you call it as you see it! You introduce us to another wine, which is often new to me, at least every week.

QOTD: I am a retired lawyer, doing some teaching and some learning about wine thanks to you. Also, following your lead – trying new wines. Recent “firsts” for me: 100% monastrell [Juan Gil 2006]; 100% touriga national [Duque de Viseu Vinho Tinto 2004]; primitivo [Pozzi 2007]; and last, but least, a French pinot noir which shall remain as nameless as it was delicious-less. All were moderately priced and all but the pinot noir were very drinkable.

The latter reflected its terrior, if that terroir was landfill over a toxic waste dump. Talk about water + danger…! It had a nose reminiscent of pesticide, gasoline, vinegar, and blood [and not in a good way!] – with flavors to match. It was to the palate what the sound of fingernails-scraped-on-a-blackboard is to the ear. But that’s what I get for trying a modestly priced Burgundy. That was a lesson learned.

Overall, though, I have great fun searching for, finding, and drinking good-value wines – which I enjoy with my wife and son [when he is here]. I look forward to your show every day with great anticipation. Keep up the good work!

My own question: Does the store not reorder wines you really really loathe? (assuming it’s not a big big seller, since you have to sell what the people want)

QOTD- I am into alot right now. Ran my first marathon in February so that took up lots of time. I am playing boatloads of Poker- need a way to make money in this tough economy. And since my business has slowed down, I am pitching in at my wife’s tutoring center in Summit- I recently got upgraded from Executive Assistant to Director of Human resources. Pay stayed the same though- $0 🙁

QOTD – What is my scene? Primarily work, both in a busy pediatric emergency room, and volunteer with the local police department as a reserve police officer, serving as the pawn shop detail and recovering stolen property, gathering criminal intelligence, stolen guns, etc. Learning about wine, cooking, life. Having a ball, the joy is in the quest.

Great show, Gary! I love when you find a wine that you just flat-out love- it’s infectious and I haven’t had many Rueda’s so I’m definitely going to look out for the El Perro.

I think it’s proper rock n’ roll for people who dig songs with actual little stories, etc. a la Tom Petty, classic (hopefully) without being too derivative. I always look to your gv.com stuff as inspiration on how to hustle and get to a place where my passion is my full-time gig.
