Wines tasted in this episode:

line of the day – ‘this wine is very one-dimensional, and that dimension is water…and danger’

I find myself enjoying Gary’s asides, winks, frowns and general facial expressions almost more than the content these days. He was asking a lot of the Mottster to identify differences between the same wines opened at different times, and Mott duly appeared all at sea…poor Mott. Also a funny slapstick ending. Classic

QOTD: making it through work everyweek… to get together with friends on the weekend and try new wines! A quest to find that particular wine that fits that given moment you share with close friends.

Wow! Thats hilarious…hope your not sitting on a few cases of that in your store..thier stock just bottomed out. I’m feeling the sense of a renewed vibe going on with the show right now. This thing is gonna keep growing till it blows up and some network comes at you with a ridiculous amount of cash and a contract, but will you take it OG Garry Vee, will you take it…?

QOTD: I’m into networking right now, making connections, social networking, following trends, studying the behavior of the masses, “linking” people up, from LA to NY I want to know the people that know the people, I want to be a catalyst for change and progress. Other than that I’m having a love affair with reds right now…flirting hard with grenache, blowing kisses to sangiovese and flat out fondling petite syrah. I’m a wine whore apparently.
      PEACE~

GV, longtime viewer(since episode 50 or so), longtime lurker, and occasional commenter(proof by my 3rd gen wristband). I had to comment today though, as I have been really into where you have been going with the show lately. I watch daily because I fundamentally agree with your philosophy on wine. It is for exploring and trying new things, value is key, no need for snobby descriptives(if it tastes like flintstone vitamins, that is how I am going to describe it), and everything is better with friends and family. With this in mind, I’ve truly enjoyed seeing all varietals and parts of the globe on wltv. I love being the guy that brings Uruguay tannat or Madiran to dinner, but I also agree 110% about respect for whites. Been singing the praise of albarino, torrontes, and verdejo for ages now. One of the best pairings I had in the past year was a Montsant grenache blanc at a Brazilian steakhouse. Best part about white wines is that there often is tons of opportunity to try new regions/varietals/etc with excellent qpr and they frequently drink well with all sorts of food and equally on a porch. Not to mention, I often think that for newcomers to wine that are just starting to taste and smell the nuances, white wines tend to be a great way for people to see that they really can pick out various elements with their palate. Anyhow, to the qotd. Gave up all alcohol for Lent, but am also a longtime lover of coffee and tea and have been really into both lately. How about some more cheese, tea, coffee in the show? Maybe an awesome earthy vintage pu-erh like the Saiqing Mao Cha (Mannong) Spring 2005 from Rishi Tea? Or the Sumatra Lintong from Ancora Roasters? Maybe a great cheese from America’s Dairyland like the Pleasant Ridge Reserve? Just an idea. Keep keeping it real for us(even lurking) Vayniacs.

It’s great to see the Thunder Show again after being out of the country for a week! That being said, it leads to a great answer for the QOTD:
I am completely into Honduras. The week there was amazing, and I want to do whatever I can to help out the country & also learn Spanish even more too. I also, by necessity, am into pharmacy school & looking forward to getting back to my life in Columbus (OH- loved the reference today cuz we’ve got some great wines!) after I graduate!

Gary – nice pull with the paper football reference! Definitely played my fair share of paper football in high school (I was born in 1980)

QOTD: Doing research on wine and trying to learn as much as possible about wine and the industry (thinking about a BIGTIME career change…) My scene includes wine, coffee, eating out, traveling, scuba diving, fly fishing, playing guitar, live music, NFL, and recently been going to Washington Capitals games. Also, just went to Vegas for the first time and had a blast. Cirque de Soleil was incredible (saw KA and Love).

Great show,,,,, the powers were in line for this one. I’m mean come on…..the cork just hanging on the edge of the table???? Pouring the piece of crap Lurton Reuada into the spit bucket at the end, “Water + danger”. And how many times did you hit the camera with something? Only thing lacking was motts reaction to the Montelpuciano…. Come on mott….give us something, a funny face or somtin!!!!

QOD ~ I’m the wine director for a few restaurants in SOCAL and am currently in the process of building a wine by the glass program for a new restaurant opening in West L.A. When I aint doing all that, I dine out quite a bit, try new restaurants around town (a lot of openings recently, considering the economy), and I also like to ride my bike on the Venice/Santa Monica board walk, stay fit and enjoy the sunshine.

Great show Gary! Very interesting, very intrigued by the Italian wine.

QOTD: I’m Catholic, so right now, Lent has been on my mind a lot. I have too many irons in the fire at work, but it’s worth it b/c I just got promoted, so I’m pretty grateful for that given the state of things. I’ve been working in my yard as its Spring here in FL, which makes me & my German Shepherd very happy. I’ve been sticking to my New Year’s resolution of running at least 2.5 miles 4 days a week in addition to my normal workout. I got up to 200 lbs just lifting, and didn’t like the way I felt. I’m back to my soccer weight of 185 and feel a lot better. As you say Gary, it’s all about balance! World Superbike & MotoGP motorcycle racing is back on, so that makes me happy. And as I write this, I am really enjoying the very tasty 2005 Elias Mora!

    • Great episode garyv. LOVED the last 4 seconds. Bang on in just pouring the wine out!

The scene i’m into right now is sort of political space hippie with a healthy dose of tech savvy and movie goer.

    • Great Episode. I’ve been slack but saw an update on Facebook so thought I’d check in and see what you’ve been up to. Based on your comments I really wanted to find that red but alas couldn’t find it in Australia on Wine-Searcher. So there goes that idea.

    • I wholeheartedly agree with your comments on the Lurton wine. What a piss-poor effort. The BASA from Telmo Rodriguez or the Prado Rey blend and/or verdejo-varietal is far superior. Rueda deserves better and Lurton should just go back to France.

QOTD: I am preparing to move from B.C. Canada back to Ontario. Going back to my roots in the Niagara Peninsula and hopefully, get involved with the wine world there. It’s my home. Other things: learning about opera and recording a few songs of mine (acoustic, non-opera) to pass around to friends and family. Enjoyed the show and I try to tune in when I can especially when it’s about Spain. I love Spain. I need to go one day.

I am currently preparing for the arrival of my first child in April… so my scene involves reading about and shopping for my son. There is so much to learn and the journey is exciting… Gary, you’re passion and energy will serve you well in this process. Best of Luck!

P.S. I hope you will be doing a show in the future about wines from the 2009 vintage that would be ideal to cellar until 2030… when are kids will turn 21. I know that will be some time from now but I’ll be watching.

      QOTD: I am ‘in to’:
      being happy
      The Wire
      hiking/snowshoeing outdoors
      Good wine under $50
      Exploring wine with friends
Getting back in to WLTV – haven’t had time recently to catch up on shows, but I’m working my way through.

Gary, nice job on the recent shows. I’m a fan all over again. 😉

QOTD: Right now im really in to the blues and little steven?s underground garage. the reason being there not main stream. For a lack of a better description im radioed out. The blues is rocking soul and depth that music is missing now. As for little steven his radio show brings back rock in it purest form. The music played is rock n roll old and new and in that mix are bands and songs you never heard off or songs you forgot about. The blues and little steven is my perfect end to a Sunday and that make me happy before I go back to work.

Huge fan of Rueda wines. Those who haven’t tasted any should seek out ” 2007 Naia” and “2006 Naides”.

QOTD: Currently working at a Spanish restaurant in Baltimore, MD (if you’re in the area you should stop by PAZO) and learning a lot about wine. This August I’m getting married to Sara Krauser, the most wonderful woman in the world, and then going to Napa for a quick honeymoon before moving to Bloomington, Indiana where I will be attending grad school in fine art painting. I’m in a good place in my life.

    • I love the show! I usually watch the show from an ipod and consequently I have not been hittin up the comments. But you have spurred me to read some great comments and post more often.

QOTD: I am a recent college grad (Philo/Poly Sci) I am working on my Chinese and Spanish trying to land a full time job. I love social networking and how it can keep me in touch with friends, but with everyone spread across the country and globe it is getting harder to sit down and share a drink.

Gary, the Barone, like some other offerings on WLTV, appears only to be distributed on the East Coast. Can you provide info on the importer/distributor for those of us who may need to track it down out here on the “left coast.” Thanks!

QOTD: Running, following NFL free-agency, trying to drop some lbs, and starting to blog.

My scene right now is finding another job in restaurant management, I was recently laid off from the job I thought I’d spend the next 2-3 years at and I just want to get that opportunity again. Things look positive. Other than that, I’m really into wine and craft beer, dining out in the Boston area. I’ve been thinking about producing a video blog about Boston’s dining and drinking scene, something with a punk/rebel slant to it. I’m very much into the motorcycle scene, and can’t wait to put my bike on the road. A true sign that spring is near.

      Gary,
Love the show. Any help on the distributor — can’t seem to find it online on the west coast. L-O-V-E the show.

QOTD: Running, trying to drop some lbs, trying to develop my palate by blogging about the wines I try, and evangelizing WLTV (I was in Napa this weekend with friends and mentioned it to several winery folks who have not yet gotten the word!)!
