Wine Spectator scores the 2004 Brunello’ds a 92-97 as a vintage and Wine Advocate scores Tuscany a 96 but Antonio Galloni says “There is absolutely no reason to get worked up about 2004 Brunello and commit capital without tasting the wines first.” So today Gary Vaynerchuk will try the 1st two that have come in!

Wines tasted in this episode:

2004 Argiano Brunello Di MontalcinoBrunello di Montalcino
2004 Camigliano Brunello MontalcinoBrunello di Montalcino

line of the day – ‘my cheeks look like Yoda right now’

Extremely hyper GV in this episode and as a result the show is a bit too full on. Mott’s first ever link up suggestion the highlight

yeah, sorry – i kinda hate that word – legit. I’m all for expanding the vocabulary, and you’re welcome to use whatever words you like, but MC Hammer is the first thing that comes to my mind.
nice episode though, need to try some brunellos.

If you do bacon, you gotta get some from Neuske’s — best applewood-smoked bacon out there.

Yes, random wine thoughts always welcome.

M&S Ogier ‘La Rosine’ Syrah 2005 is my bacon pick. I love this wine as an alternative to Cote Rotie. This vineyard is a stones throw from famed hillside and brings the thunder with world class Syrah.

QOTD: Legit…. come on Gary “2 Legit 2 Quit” is there anything else!

Mini QOTD: fun and flabby, my friend; especially any banter or harassment aimed Mott’s way.

Real QOTD: I’m fealin’ “legit,” I was pretreens when MC Hammer came out, it brings back good memories; don’t quit the legit.

    Nice start to the week.

QOTD1: All for the random wine talk.

QOTD2: So many great movies fall into this category for me and my ADD. A few recent ones I watched are No Country for Old Men, Waltz with Bashir, and Gomorrah. All great movies, but get a little long in the middle.

QOTD3: Legit means the real deal, something that is undeniable beyond personal likes or dislikes.

I just watched it this weekend….MAD MAX. It brings the THUNDER on the attack and finish but is really weak on the mid-palate. The schlocky love story that inhibits the mind numbing 2nd act attempts to gather as much sympathy as possible for the one dimensional characters (the wife and baby get run over and killed by psycho bikers). I must note, however, the intense 20+ minute car battle that finishes the picture and the insanely wild characters make this picture “legit.” 88.

Legitimate…….will certainly not be a word to describe Wall Street or the Banking Industry in the year 2009.

Big controversy about this money trail……mixing other types of juice in the Brunelllos.

    Are Brunello’s actually Legitimate ??

    Chuy. lol

QOTD’s def small talk!! Let us know what you been drinking. What wines your really into at the mo! anything else bout your life you dont mind talking to us about.

The first part of LOTR is like that. The meeting bit in the middle… dull dull dull.

Legit reminds me of Cockney’s trying to sell me dodgy stuff in a London market. Bit of a cultural reference there but there we go…

Oh and congrats on the article in Decanter Garry!

At .52 did Gary actually say Pinot “Manure?”. I think he may have meant to say the grape name Meunier which is one the three grapes in Champagne.
Hate to be a PIA and I have been in the wine business toooooo long to let tis one slip.

  • Did I get schooled on WLTV? I think so!!!!! I’ve really begun a special and fun journey into the wine world in the last few months, and it’s been pretty exciting.

Honestly I had no idea how deep I would go. But now I’m reviewing the wines I try for my website blog, joined the Wine Library Wine of the Month Club for 3 months, and bought a graphite 16 bottle cooler for our basement.

It’s getting interesting. And it’s not like I wasn’t busy enough as it is! But this just adds a new and exciting component to life.

    And I love to learn.

And not just Gary, but every one I have spoken to over at Wine Library, via email, twitter, my blog, the forums, have been so extraordinarily friendly, encouraging, it means alot to me, truly.

A good example of a good movie but 15 minutes of boredom: I’m gonna say Meet Joe Black with Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt, I love the movie but it has it’s boring moments for sure.

QOTD: When I think of the word legit I think of the superficial stereotype of gangsters, I think something legit speaks for itself, so honestly I don’t like the word.

QOTD1: I like the smalltalk, especially when you talk about wines you like to drink at home.

QOTD2: Apocalypse Now. (Film buffs are going to kill me for that)

QOTD3: “Legit” makes me think of authentic wines that are not the product of some mad scientist manipulating the wine beyond all recognition (FUBAR) but rather the true expression of terroir.
I love that you are championing that concept BTW.

What’s better than bacon? Nothing! That’d be great.

QOTD #1 — random thoughts would be great

QOTD #2 — Man on Fire

    QOTD #3 — Legit’s good.

    Glad you’re feeling better.

  • Very nice show. Concepcion and I just finished unpacking from a cruise we took last week, and now are ready to start packing for the Thunder Cruise. Considering it’s an italian cruise line, I will make sure to bring a good Brunello or two, to share with you and other fellow vayniacs. The Thunder Cruise is LEGIT! It’s the real deal!

Great episode Gary. Have only had 2 Brunello’s in my life & they were both from ’97. To use your words, they rocked the hizzy. Actually got me thinking about one of my all time favorite episodes- 167 (somewhat under-rated in my mind). You went coocoo for cocoa puffs about one of the wines.

QOTD1: Love the small talk between wines.
    QOTD2: Can’t remember what you asked/
QOTD3: Legit- not a huge fan of that, but I guess MC Hammer…

Semi-QOTD: The spontaneous comments are great because the information might be lost if you didn’t state the comments right then and there.

QOTD 2: I agree with some of the other posters–Mad Max.

QOTD 3: As a former DJ during the “Golden Era” of music…2 Legit 2 Quit by MC Hammer–although he ultimately quit the music biz and became a preacher!

Gary interesting show, love italian wines! But so many are at extreme price pts.. (too me). Brunello, Barolo, barbaresco, Amarone, Super Tuscan, all have an entry point of 40+. Ill stick to negroamaro, primitivo, cheaper valpoli’s.

QOTD1: Definitely give us some life highlights, as long as your not talking over guests.. ha..

    QOTD: Legit != Legitimate.
    — We both know its solid, but im just gonna have to announce it anyway. I mean who says legit without some swagger.

Side Comment: Definitely include the “small talk”. Visited Peachy Canyon almost 10 years ago. Only had their Zins. Try “C-Beck Petite Sirah”.

Side Comment 2: I fall asleep during a lot of movies. Sometimes when there is a lull, the movie never gets back on track, or too many sub-plots, storylines and characters. “Flash of Genius” was the most recent movie that lingered at least 15 minutes too long. It became an act of frustration for the main characters and the viewers and probably should have been made as a short film documentary.

QOTD: For me, when the word legit is used, it refers to the legitimate structure or backbone of music–the chord changes, etc.

Never met a Brunello I didn’t like. Don’t forget to Bring home the BACON on tomorrow’s Thunder Show.

Great Brunello show. I am living in Florence and going to wine school here. If you need any inside scoops on brunello or anything italian for that matter, let me know I got some hook ups.

QOTD1: def. keep up the little anectdotes, its great way to learn things that you normally wouldnt have.
QOTD2: i think parts of the dark night got a little boring. Havent seen it since the theater so i could be wrong.
QOTD3: “legit” is great because I feel there is more power in the truncated version than the full version. When i hear “legit” i know for sure its legit.

to be honest, Gary, i like a flab that is firm yet fun. small talk is awesome, just so long as you dont have to explain all your little slang terms anymore. if the vayniacs havent gotten it by now, its useless. qotd number 2, aliens(the sequel to alien) is so boring in the beginning, but it gets much better halfway through. qotd number 3, legitimately a great word, and on the subject of bacon, try the tehuan ernesto somethin or other malbec. yellow top, heavy bottle, awesome bacon essence.

BTW, this angle of filming is far superior. First of all, just more interesting background than the blank wall……BUT, more importantly, I like the fact that when someone pokes their head in you’re office, we will be able to see who it is (and their reaction) immediately!! Hasn’t happenned yet, but I predict it will pay dividents down the line.

btw, if I’m ever there and see you filming, I’m definitely busting in!!!
