EP 646 2004 Italian Brunello’s are Red Hot, Today Gary Talks About Them.

Wine Spectator scores the 2004 Brunello’ds a 92-97 as a vintage and Wine Advocate scores Tuscany a 96 but Antonio Galloni says “There is absolutely no reason to get worked up about 2004 Brunello and commit capital without tasting the wines first.” So today Gary Vaynerchuk will try the 1st two that have come in!

Wines tasted in this episode:

2004 Argiano Brunello Di MontalcinoBrunello di Montalcino
2004 Camigliano Brunello MontalcinoBrunello di Montalcino

Extremely hyper GV in this episode and as a result the show is a bit too full on. Mott’s first ever link up suggestion the highlight

QOTD 1) I like it flabby, I want to hear about the wine you’re drinking off the show. I want to learn, feed me more Gary.

QOTD 2) A great movie with a flabby mid palate: lord of the rings … any of them.

QOTD 3) I love smoked meat sandwiches. Montreal smoked meat sandwiches with a pickle on rye with a cotts black cherry soda.

Keep on doing what you do. I feed off your passion and I want to do what you do one day.

Holy crapola dude that was a “tight” show. Great job, can’t wait to try these Brunellos…. in about 10 years.

QUOTD 1: Go for it with the rantyness if you wish… but don’t make it a rule. I really like when you get so into an ep that you start spouting off cool facts and minutia about a varietal or an area of the world. I’m all about the educational aspect, but don’t wanna stifle your creativity 🙂

QUOTD 2: Mission Impossible II. I remember fancy, flashy beginning with the Flamenco dancing, and a truly awesome John Wu fight scene at the end… the middle got almost laughably ridiculous though with all the face-switching, and I thought… WHERE THE HELL is this movie going? It figured itself out, though…

QUOTD 3: Legit is MY favorite word of the moment too. I don’t know what made me start using it all of the sudden. Don’t overuse it or else I’ll have to give it up. 😉

Gary, great show, have been watching for over a year now…im a server at a grillhouse|winebar and thought it would be awesome if, instead of the sweatbands, you had those rubber bracelets like the “livestrong” ones, just thought it would be kind of neat for your fans that way we could show a suttle appreciation while at work and maybe even spread the thunder that way…QOTD: simply put…M.C. HAMMER “Too legit, too legit to quit…hay haaaaaay” and that awesome hand gesture he started hahahahahaha love the show man

  • Great show…Brunello’s are one of my favorite wines…of all the great Brunello’s I have tasted over the years, they typically have an earthy/mushroom taste at their core…maybe its just me. Can’t wait to try a few of these 2004’s. Keep it flabby brother!!

OK, but come on dude… GET A COPYEDITOR for this site!!!! It’s spelled “Brunellos”… the word is PLURAL, NOT POSSESSIVE. So there’s no apostrophe. Gah. I see stuff like that all the time here, and it drives me crazy. The end, sorry man!

Solid show… I’ve got to try some Brunello’s

QOTD#1 – go where you need to, on or off topic, new and different is the core of the show…thanks for sharing

QOTD#2 – JB 007 Casino Royal…scene at the airport was like something from a difft. movie

QOTD#3 – Legit works, cogent and concise

My 6 yr. old son (Jack) thinks you are “cool” with the energy you bring to the show, but also thinks you need to mix in some “Vikings” stuff.

BTW – Masters week is coming… love to see a show that review “Golf Pro Wine”

Was just reading about the ’04 Brunellos and your two-wine-review makes
    me think ’04 is LEGIT.

QsOTD: Keep up the sidebar conversations counselor. They are enlightening
and informative. As for “legit” I’m obviously down with it.

QOTD1: I would definitely appreciate your side thoughts on other wines. I think that you are probably at the forefront of the wine world, so any insight you have is clearly appreciated.

    QOTD2: Don’t remember it.

QOTD3: Syracuse’s chances to be in the final 4

    Great show.

Great to have you back. I was beginning to have GV withdraws. I will go get a few of these this weekend and try them. As for the QOTDs
QOTD 1 Talk about anything, just keep it real!
    QOTD 2 Man on Fire.
QOTD 3 Legit is the unpretentious truth about wine that screams from the lips of the Vaynernation.

Great show gary. I’ve been so busy lately but I’m glad I finally found time to catch up on the winelibrarytv (despite your slight absence). It seems you have a great new energy again. Oh yeah, a thought came to mind when you mentioned bacon, perhaps a show on wine with breakfast foods some day?
QOTD1: small talk is great. I’m lovin’ it.
    QOTD2: Benjamin Button.
QOTD3: Legit – real. keeping it real.

#Mari: what Gary and crew are saying is that it’s all about what the Brunelli possess. Vino is possessive, my girl! No one says “brunellos” as that merely abuses the Italian (not to mention the English ear, as it comes off sounding like “nose”). V’Chuk was legit in using the apostrophe because it’s all about possessin’ the good stuff. The man said it’s “the little nice brown one” … as in “the little nice brown one possesses…”, as in all the Brunelli deserve some respect.

  • Loved the show! Liked the length too – much easier to get time to look at something running for the 15 minute mark!

Legit – I just take it at face value a concatenated version of legitimate. Perhaps a version of the word legitimate with forcefulness. It’s so legit, it won’t let you not know about it.

I really must try some Brunello’s one day, but with all such things the massive price differences with some of the wines available down here combined with the inevitable different experiences to be had as a result, makes me a little concerned that I won’t like ’em for the wrong reasons and go the whole once bitten twice shy route…

  • Robin C

Nice brunello episode. I’m glad you’re feeling better.
    QOTD: 1. Just be spontaneous
    2. I just saw La Sonambula (HDD Met Opera) at the movies. I did fall asleep, but woke up and enjoyed the rest. The reviews were not so good, but I thought the principal singers were great.
    3. I like the word legit. I think I mostly use it to mean whether or not someone or something is on the up and up.

MQTOD: Tombstone all the way. Great movie, but I almost fall asleep for a bit in the middle everytime.

QOTD: It reminds me of MC Hammer and everytime you write/say that I get that flippin song stuck in my head, so thank you very much (sarcasm).

    BACON EPISODE TOMORROW, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gary — I have an ongoing debate with my girlfriend about what is the most DELICIOUS food in the world (not combination of ingrediends, no recipes, just the actual ingredient). Bacon is my #1. Potato is her #1. I’m interested to hear your thoughts…

ps: Thanks for reading my comment. I sent the link out to my friends and family, I’m sure they’ll get a kick out of it and hopefully I’ve recruited some new viewers to the Thunder Show!

QOTD1: Go with the side talk on wine (flabby), keep it real! Don’t fight it!

QOTD2: “The Usual Suspects”, the interview gets boring but the end is incredible, Keyser Sose! Finishes hot. Maybe “Dances with Wolves” but that is just painfully long…

QOTD3: 2 Legit, 2 Legit, 2 Quit (with the hand signals, remember those? 2-L-2-L-2-hand waive) You should wear MC Hammer Pants for the Bacon episode, ha

QOTD 1: Small talk is like foreplay for the mouth, necessary to get a good convo going.

QOTD 2: Mad Max the Road Warrior. The part with the weird people at the oil refinery. Actually, the whole movie was weird, and kinda boring but you just had to keep watching it.

QOTD 3: Legit, according to the merriam-webster has been around since 1908. My conclusion, it is an essential part of the english language and should be used anytime formal conversation gets to stuffy.

Got over that cold pretty quick Gary, was it the Mezcal?

  • Loved the episode.

Like I told you, I am a new fan of the show so of course I had to check out the old episode of the Brunellos. Although they sound like lovely wines, I agree with other people in that it would be nice if we could see some recession friendly wines.

Go ahead and go off topic, just don’t get crazy.

Awesome episode gary, i just got back from a Barolo and Brunello tasting, Empson Imports, i believe. New releases on the 04’s, had some brunates, cannubi’s and bussia. Mind altering on the cannubi, had to sit down and rethink my speel when i try talking people into a barolo, in my restaurant. I live in La Jolla and its an affluent community but very conservative so they still think cali wines are the best thing since sliced bread so big cabs and buttery chards are what people ask for. I have to use my salesmenship to get people on to a Barolo or Brunello. That Cannubi was a like when your in high school and the hottest chic asks you over cause her parents are away for the weekend. Oh man!!!!! Giz..in..my pants!! It was that good. GO CHARGERS!!!!
