line of the day – ‘this smells like a helium balloon filled with oak chips’

After the previous episode where GV seemed a bit full of himself he’s back to his fantastic best in this one. The fruit machine analogy was pure gold.

  • I LOVE BACON!!!! BACON – BACON – BACON – Strips fried for me would be my answer. I am running to get the 06 Chateau Paradis!!!

So I am sitting here tearing up sausage, green peppers and onion hoagie and thinking to myself – what would go good with that? You went with bacon so why not dive into the depths of Choleserolville!!!

    Great episode!!

qotdII: Did you do the “bacon” show to cheat on your diet?

QOTD: In a BLT–Toasted white bread, with Mayo, Iceberg Lettuce and some sliced tomatoes from the dirty Jerz–perhaps the anti-Christ of Healthy Sandwiches.

Plain, cooked bacon is good–forget the eggs. Must read comment above regarding easy clean-up when cooking bacon.

Lastly, the lingering aroma of cooked bacon is enjoyable–reminds me of a Sunday morning–easy-going, and usually not having to go to work.

Question for Gary: Doesn’t the taste of the wine you previously drank, stay in your mouth when you taste the following wine? You give the glass a rinsy-rinse, but comment mostly after the first taste. I realize many times you take a second and sometimes third sip to be accurate, and have an extremely keen sense of smell and taste. There….I just answered my own question…

hey gary–genius show! who doesnt love bacon? did you hear about the guy who tried to eat only bacon for one month–this just happened.

I like bacon on anything including ice cream as long as its crispy!

QOTD 2: how is lizzy coming along? hope she’s great!

  • Gary, have you tried bacon salt? http://www.baconsalt.com/

Great show, loved the inclusion of bacon. I use bacon mainly to wrap lean meat in. So you have a lean piece of chicken, wrap it in bacon!

QOTD4GV: Do you think the Jets are going to get Jeff Culter?

Don’t eat bacon much (or anything really fatty), but BLT’s are yummy, and I truly LOVE the permeating aroma—gives me the warm and fuzzies—right up there with the scent of coffee brewing in the morning. When I do eat bacon, it has to be nearly burned to a crisp. Nothing worse than flabby bacon!

QOTD #2: I asked this a couple days ago, but when are you going to talk about the rapidly approaching Thunder Cruise??

Okay, I started getting a little weirded out by the end there.

    A) the INSTANT after I thought to myself “I wish he would rate the bacon” you gave it 100 pts. Would’ve liked a palate breakdown on it, though. Just sayin’.

    B) I watched this while munching a BBLT (double bacon) and was thinking to myself (I do that a lot, apparently) “I’m really enjoying this step outside of my usual bacon consumption method, the bacon+egg sandwich. With half a bottle of hot sauce.” And then along came your QOTD.

    C) I was thinking to myself (yeah, that again), I’m going to ask Gary to have a bacon blind tasting show, where many different brands and styles are tasted and compared. So there’s my question: pretty please? I won’t tell your doctor.

After all this, I’m scared I’ve been watching the show so long I’ve begun thinking like you. Get outta my head, Gary.

BTW, I had to pause the show and place an order for the Paradis. Look forward to enjoying it. In two years.

I would have gone with a Ch N de Pape, or other Rhone with the bacon. Maybe a Grenache from Spain, not the pinot.

OH! Another VERY IMPORTANT question for you. The 4Seasons Wine Club has somehow gotten around PA’s ridiculous liquor laws, and we joined simply because they can SHIP to us. So when can YOU? Or why can they and not you? I’d much rather sample and purchase different wines from YOU (particularly ones you evaluate). Awaiting your reply!

    Hi there

Really love to watch your shows. I alsways have a glas of wine with it 😉
In this case its not that okay sorry chap. Bacon is not Bacon just like wine is not wine. Is it smoked and how, is it? italian, danish, french cheap smoked theres billions of varieties on this particular subject. And then… you only have a snap once of it!? thats not okay. Well FOOD and WINE is like a wife and a husband they have to fit to work together. Please bring more Foods to the taste. What would go with cheese or maybe foie gras? yep!!!. And please do tell us a bit of the vinification of some wines that you find interesting. Well and then at some point you mention the screw cap, well what!? thats allmost criminal.. to me it is! is it okay with a screw cap????? what do you think?

Just think about it, peppered bacon, early morning in the pines with a big stack of sourdough cakes and coffee made over a fire. That is the way to enjoy bacon.

Question/recommendation: Why dont you find a wine that is extremely out of balance, one that is high in acid and one that is extremely tanic (as well as one that has it altogether) and bring on the wine cruise for one of our sessions and lets discuss.

  • Love Bacon… Good show

QOTD: Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on an English muffin at 3 am after a couple (like 10) of drinks…..phenomenal.

Question for Gary: who do the Jets draft in the first round?? choose wisely…

  • Hey Gary,

Awesome show! I loved the bacon and I have had the 06 Paradis and it WAS amazing.

QOTD- I would say my favorite bacon would have to be a tie. First there is little better than having a nice hearty breakfast, with an omlette and a large glass of milk and a pile of honey bacon (not crunchy). The second place is on a nice medium rare burger hot off the grill and some swiss cheese in there…mmmhmm.

Question for you. My girlfriend is not a big wine drinker, so besides setting WLTV to her homepage, what RED do you suggest? I am a big red fan and ant her to get something she will like.

    Ligitly yours,

    D-Money

  • Hi Gary,
Where I’m from (Brazil), I used to eat pieces of bacon with popcorn every Sunday after church. There was a popcorn stand right in front of it (the church)…. if you haven’t already you should try it!

    Hey Gary

I love bacon with a side of french toast.

My question for you is what is a good starter burgandy wine that won’t cost me an arm and a leg.

    Thanks

Q4U: You always seem to be ‘moving’, ‘running’, ‘on the move’, but what do you do to ‘wind down’?

  • How do I best enjoy bacon? It is with breakfast, I have to have strip bacon with polish sausage, 2 eggs over easy, and sauerkraut perogies. On the side you’ve gotta have rye toast with caraway and i don’t know how you say it in english but hrine … the beat infused horseradish. Now that is heaven!

my question for you, la vin jaune arbois. I have a bottle in my dad’s cellar its a ’93, it was given to me as a gift, when should I open it and what should I eat it with?

Wow! People really freak out over bacon. My GF does, too, and it’s practically her favorite vegetable. And she leaves the dirty pan on the stove, which really pisses me off.

QotD – Even as a foodie and wine worker type, I’m kind of indifferent to bacon’s phenomenal appeal, due to the reality of it being as relatively non- healthy as it is a mess to clean up.

All that aside, pasta carbonara, often replacng spagetti w/ farfalle, perciatelli, or other noodles for amusement.

Anyone that wants to experience Bacon to it’s fullest potential should go camping in the North Woods area of Wisconsin; especially the Nicolet Forest area of Three Lakes and Eagle River. When you cook it outside in the crisp morning air you will love it! The best brand of bacon by far that I have ever tasted is Nueske bacon; made in rural Wisconsin, smoked over an applewood fire. It is quite smokey and very lean; it is much better than the expensive brand at Trader Joe. (no I do not have stock in Nuesky)
Gary, please stop reading the comments on the air. We get that you read them. It just wastes time, and we all can read can’t we?
    Smell it first. TR
