Vaynernation show a bit of appreciation in my year or so as a viewer this is the only episode that hasn’t been fun and entertaining and it wasn’t that bad ok the blokes are kinda lame but still the link to that video it’s well worth watching the episode 😀

I guess the Vaniacs want to expand their wine palate, but not their humour palate… Come on, lighten up. OK, so it wasn’t the best WLTV of all time – get over it. From the comments I’ve read, you’d think these people had dropped ten bucks to watch the episode and then had a cheese grater rubbed over their face instead… Sigh. And Gary, you did yeoman’s work trying to save the episode – you’re way too tough on yourself: no apology required.

Gary obviously likes to talk to the group at Collegehumor. Hell, Gary has responded to more comments on the Jake and Amir website then his own. If you didn’t like these two, then watch one of the other 648 episodes. Don’t be surprised if Gary does another one with these two.

I’m glad I’m in the majority of hating this episode! I almost couldn’t finish it, except I actually wanted to know what Gary thought about the wines. These guys drove me absolutely nuts. I’m only 25 and did not find anything humorous about these guys. How annoying to listen to.

Better luck next time Gary! I’m glad you try to spice up the show and always try new types of guests. I won’t hold this one against ya.

hi gary–trying to branch out to the young crowd here? I am a huge fan of guests in general, but wine knowledge aside, I dont think these guys have enough in the brains dept. to have graduated any college at all.

These guys are bad reps for college humor–I understand how it could take 9+hrs of footage to get a funny 1min clip from them.

P.S. even though the wines didnt show well–the norton and pesquie are widely available, affordable, and with big scores, so I appreciate getting another opinion on them.

Gary, I will spare you having to read another negative post about the guests as I agree with most of the people here in my dislike of them.

I feel like the most important thing here is… After shooting this episode did you think “Oh man this is not going to go over well with the fans.” or were you really excited with it and happy? For the future direction of WLTV I hope you were expecting this kind of response from your fans because if you were surprised that everyone disliked it so much then that is a bigger issue.

Gary you are freaking awesome! Keep making wine fun and accessible to everyone.

Gary, sorry to say this, but big fail for the 2nd time. I felt sorry for you doing this show, I really did.

Leave the College Humor fan base alone. You’re associating your brand with the wrong image. CH is good at what it does. It’s a hot ticket while you’re in College. But everyone knows that as soon as you graduate and face the real world, you forget all about that sort of silliness in a flash…

The few hundred fans you’ll pull in from the CH crowd won’t offset the loss of respect and viewership of your loyal fan base. There has to be a better niche than CH to get more eyeballs to WLTV.

Another thought: Gary, you know that your own confidence to be who you are is one of the great strengths of WLTV, second only to your wine expertise. Your own genuine enthusiasm and self-confidence becomes even clearer the rare times you have guests who aren’t comfortable being themselves and with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Rokov was hilarious because he was confident that he could say anything and still be himself. The College Humor folks aren’t comfortable with themselves; it would be OK if they were actually high and dumb, but instead they’re playing dumb, playing high — which seems to be the opposite of your energy and your philosophy of owning your own personality. Get some dorky but friendly/genuine college kids on the show to talk about wine, and I promise, really, that it’ll be a funnier and more entertaining (and more viral) show.

hey gary, first time posting here. not a fan of the episode. but i went to check out jakeandamir.com. they’re funny. i could see why you would like them. i like their skits, a lot funnier than many network shows lately. i felt these guys are really intelligent in real life but they came out on your show either as half baked characters or just not interested in wine or even learning something about it.

kudos to you for trying to teach the kids about wine and keeping your cool.

Gary, there was nothing you could do to cover for those two guests. They phoned it in and didn’t seem to give a damn about your show. You were excellent as usual. Your analysis was solid. You were not the problem, so please don’t apologize. You do a great job not only of describing and rating the wines, but also of inspiring the Vayniacs to expand their palate — all with a very entertaining style. Keep up the great work!!

Love your show Gary, but it looks like you were working really hard to salvage this episode.

I think the main reasons your fans watch you is for your enthusiasm and inquisitiveness, so when guests show neither it doesn’t appeal. I have never watched these two guys on College Humor, but in the context of this episode they were terrible. Apathy and disengagement might be their schtick (or their characters’ schticks) and maybe it’s hysterical when they are in their element, but definitely not on wltv.

I’ve watched hundreds of your videos Gary and will continue to — Please don’t let the criticisms discourage you, they aren’t directed at you anyway.

I’m not much of a wine drinker myself, so I think episodes where you bring in wines that would appeal to developing palates especially interesting. Other people have cited the episode with AJ. If the guest is interesting in learning, it goes a long way.

My favourite guest was Nicolas Joly, the biodynamics guy. I’m so glad that show was a multi-parter!

I thought the video was pretty funny. If you’ve ever seen any Jake and Amir episodes and have seen interviews, you’d see that they are playing their characters. Personally, I found this funny and will probably frequent this site more often but some of you people leaving comments really need to get the sticks out of butts, sheesh.

Your cross-marketing idea may have backfired with your steady viewers, but it was certainly successful in gaining entrance to a new audience.
I followed this link from Jake & Amir’s blog, which I am subscribed to. I’m 28, an MBA student, and I love wines, but am a novice at best when it comes to wine knowledge.

Last weekend, my husband and I had an amazing seven course dinner that was personally paired with a flight of wine by the wine captain (yes, I googled that term). As we were guessing the nose, forwards, and finishes and learning about concepts like wine that never touches wood so that you can taste the soil the grapes grew in… I said to my husband, “I want to become a wine aficionado.” I even asked the wine captain how he got started. He recommended reading and I now have on my list “The Wines and Domaines of France” by Clive Coates and “The Wines of Burgundy” by Anthony Hanson.

My point is that you have hit the nail on the head, in my opinion, by inviting a young and popular blog team on your show. The only thing I?m disappointed in is how stuffy your general audience seems. Frankly, while you are trying to break down barriers, they are doing a very good job of keeping them up!

Yes, this episode was a little overpowering with the wine lesson plus Jake & Amir?s personalities. But your viewers should know that Jake & Amir were completely ?in character? for this. The fact that they took them seriously is a sign that they may need to loosen up a bit (or have some more wine).

Gary V, there is no need for you to apologise for ANYTHING. It was worth a shot and just did not work out. No reflection on you. You were as good as ever and any true fan of the show will see that. It has got me posting comments and I intend to continue to do so. Your show is awesome GV. This episode did not work but so what. WLTV is class and its all down to you dude.

Oh my god, this is negative. I watched this because I am a fan of Jake and Amir themrelves, and Collegehumor, and I thought this was really funny. But it seems that people who watch this show regularly and are interested in the wines and such, don’t like it at all. I’m sure not everybody likes the kind of humour that Jake and Amir and Collegehumor do, but also maybe you need to be familiar with them (and like them) before this to appreciate it… they are obviously (especially Amir) in their characters from Jake and Amir most of the time. That’s the whole point. Amir is really stupid. But if you don’t know them, it may be kind of hard to appreciate. But anyway, I liked the show!

Gary, I felt embarrassed watching this. How did you feel when the recording was over? Did you consider ditching it?

wow, I must say I love you show but reading these comments have me completely laughing my a$s off. They are playing characters…do you think if he only ate chicken nuggets he would even be around? I mean calm down ppl this is a sad day in both comedy history and in your shows history. How ppl can so completely miss the mark. Personally I thought the show wasn’t the best but they obviously didn’t know anything and if you expected more then skip this episode plain and simple.

…and honestly if you thought their humour was too “college” then you have never heard of the Marx brothers or Abbott and Costello – As they are very clearing playing Straight man (Abbott/Jake) bumbling idiot (Costello/Amir) not that they’re anywhere close to that level but it seemed fairly obvious to me

It’s pretty obvious by the comments, GV watchers loved GV, and CH watchers loved CH.

So apparently most Jake and Amir watchers find GV a little different then what they usually watch. And Gary watchers were clearly not used to seeing Jake and Amir. Its sad that they can’t appreciate the humor. And im sure GV watchers think its sad that most of us didnt appreciate GV.

I am a huge Jake and Amir fan, and I must say it took a good 10 mins to get used to Gary. Just because he is so different then they are in his approach and mannerism. At the end, I see he is just a regular guy a little more excited about wine then I am. Maybe alot more excited. To each his own.

Not sure how many Vayniacs have ever provided two comments with regards to one episode, but I feel one is necessary in light of my earlier message – just felt guilty.

Over the years we Vayniacs have been graced with over 600 episodes of highly entertaining and incredibly informative episodes of WLTV – and lets not forget the most important point of all; its all been for FREE!

I think we owe a big apology to Gary, and to put things into perspective; I mean he hasnt just killed a man for christ sake or caused the recent great depression – well maybe just a slight depression 😉

Worth a shot Gary but probably should have scrapped the episode when it didn’t work out! Amir clearly doesn’t give a rats about you or the show! His actions even seemed to be embarrassing Jake… I hate that I’m in college and people might think I’m like that!
