line of the day – ‘It’s like appreciating a good looking guy’

Really good guest…in fact possibly a bit too good for GV’s liking. His knowledge and tasting notes seemed to be right up there with our man’s, and for that reason there was a subtle undertone of ‘I’m the boss around here’ running throughout the episode. Don’t worry Gary, we know you’re da man!

  • QOTD 1: No guest host is the only answer to this question. Zach was a top notch guest until it looked like he asked that QOTD without any previous knowledge by Gary. That was a little weird.

QOTD 2: Decant and let breath for full flavor, a little too much alcohol.

  • Kevin K

    QOTD1: Yes, Ian.
QOTD2: I was going to say “fruit forward” but that can be taken the wrong way. =)

#1 Any host is better than no show.

#2 Aromatic floral bouquet, nice legs and body ;),complex but with good purity/transparency,sweetness balanced by acidic bite at end, just beginning to hit it’s stride and will drink well for many many more years gaining in character.

1: Love the flip cam and I’d miss the Gary enthusiasm EVEN MORE if someone else were to try and replace him.

2: Tangy, with unexpected sweetness. Earthy undertones with bright fruit to liven it up.

    This was nice show.
I like the all white shows.

QOTD 1: NO. Rather no show than a sub, or a short ass show from the flip which goes up late.

QOTD 2: Aged 35 years in Southern Yella Pine, bright and oil-like, this wine resembles a sun brewed sweet tea from summers past. Look for undertones of turnip greens and ho cakes to emerge, with spicy black eyed peas and fried okra attackin’ the nose and persistin’ well into the back palate forming an overall sensation of front porch swingin’ and late night pickin’. Enjoy now and forever.

Pretty good guest. He was a little wine nerdy for my taste but very knowledgeable.

QOTD 1 – No guest hosts, there’s only one Gary V.

QOTD 2 – Big and bold with a smooth finish.

  • QOTD1: No – I think they should go get their own show with their own style.

QOTD2: The bottle may say 1986, but the palate speaks of more maturity. A lot of nuances, but perhaps a bit unfocused. Not a hint of oak, and the uniqueness of the wine shines through.

Great episode- gotta give it up to someone in my wine “generation” that can hold his own in the co-Thunder seat.

QOTD 1: I’d definitely watch a guest host episode, as long as the show had value and it was tight on time.
QOTD 2: Explodes out of the glass on the nose with ripe red berry fruit, a hint of baking spice and a subtle forest floor note. Strong attack and great acid balance on the midpalate, but the tannins on the finish are a bit bitter, hiding some of the tertiary flavors. Tight now, needs a few years open up. (*think a well-made but too-young-too-drink Mouvedre or GSM)

QOTD: Guest hosts might work once in a while but with the Flip I think Gary and Mott can link it up pretty well when GV is on the road.

QOTD: Tannic and a bit backward but with the structure to age well for the next thirty to fourty years easy.

Great show, it?s good to see younger peeps that actually know wine.

FYI – I believe the people of Alsace prefer “wines of Alsace” as an Alsation is a canine breed.

QOTD: Your pops would work as a guest host 🙂

QOTD 2: I am a pre sideways Pinot Noir. Light, earthy and complex with the ability to stand up to time. Although my old fat body is more like a flabby (Syrah like) post sideways Pinot. :))

This kid was good. I always think I could be a guest but I would don’t have half the knowledge Zack has. Great show and good guest.

QOTD: Sorry Zack but Sasha would be the only guest host worth watching on WLTV

QOTD#2: Fun, Caring, and well balanced. Enjoy now through 2055

Good guest. Very wine wise beyond his 22 years. Huge Alsace fan btw. Prob
the most food friendly whites in existence.

QsOTD: No guest hosts – sorry. My T notes – Subtle upfront character,
firm tanins and finishes very strong. This guy lasts.

QOTD: you should have the cheese dude from WLTV do a 5 min episode…

QQOTD: dark. not getting much on the nose. highly complex. big transition in the mid-palate. good length, but the alcohol kinda gets away from him. needs a few hours of decanting. will last 40-50 years. would pair well with a night of music and french cuisine.

Good fun, educational and relaxed episode. Good balance between the both of you.:-)

    QOTD1: Would only consider Sasha… 😉

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to view the THUNDER SHOW on my new blackberry storm? I’m guessing I need some sort of video player. You can email me @ robertcareypark@gmail.com and thanks in advance.

Good show, good guest. Nice job, Zack!
    QOTD1: Um, no.
QOTD2: Dry, tannic, lots of dark fruit on the mid palate, good finish, but the alcohol maybe a little high.

Nice try Zac but i’d much prefer to wait a week for a show from gary than see one up each day he’s gone by someone else. I mean really, who else can bring the thunder, GV-style?

  • QOTD : ripe nose – slightly salty. Medium to light bodied (just app. 89 kg) – complex – subtle. Sweet-sour play. Perhaps an aquired taste 😉

Drinking well now and hopefully over the next 40-50 years.

Terroir: sand/clay soil – not very steep slopes.

Excellent as a good night drink.

Great show. Gary good job letting Kack talk without interruption. What was that noise in the background? A vacuum. Have them chill while you drop the knowledge.

Good show. I love Alsace but still prefer German Riesling.

QOD#1 – No guest hosts unless they are well established as an importer, vintner,…. (BTW, if he hasn’t been on the show already I’d like to see Kermit Lynch. I loved the show with Jorge Ordonez awhile back as well as the the show with Santiago Achával)

QOD#2 – Sensibly dry and witfully subtle. I can burn you if you are not careful but at the same time you’ll be glad that I did because it will make your day.

  • Once again, I really liked this guest. I liked his non-cocky confidence, I liked his sticking by his stance on things, and just generally seemed like a really nice guy. Great QOTD too…I suppose follow my link to get a feel for me. Loved it guys, keep crushing it!
