Great episode. GV starting to get a bit cocky, but that suits this episode. The guest was really knowledgeable and the final wine was a monster. Even Mott had some decent input! Nice one.

Good guest, just picked up a subscription to his magazine online. Looks pretty innovative and for 10 bucks for 6 issues no big deal if its not.

You just killed the whole show by hating Jordan! Shame on you, GV.

on a sweeter note…good show guys. Once again, I love how you bring the flavors down to non-snob descriptions. Love the “iron shiek figurine in the microwave for 4 hours” description. What your poor mother had to put up with as you were growing up!

Good show. This guy has no idea what it means to be a die hard. I am going to go on your suggestion and try a condrieu. I’m not a baller so dropping $45 is pretty steep but I’ll give it a try.

  • Jared and I pressed Eric’s 2002 Condrieu (being weak Americans we did not pick it as that vineyard is at least 45 degrees!) When we headed home after working for Eric in 2002, he gave us one of his very first Janrode productions in 2002 when we headed home. I believe it was a 2000 vintage. We opened in 2006 and it was stunning. We don’t even consider domestic Viognier but Condrieu is spectacular and definitely splurge worthy. We are going to see Eric Friday night in San Francisco…maybe he’ll have a few bottles?!?!

Great episode! Going to get the magazine.

Gary. When are you going to come to the Rogue Valley? Beautiful down here in the summer. Hook a Southern Oregon fan up!

  • Yeah, all the obscure white wines all over the world…Like germans, austrians, new zealand…and at least twenty different Condrieu’s sold to Gordon Ramsey…Plus all those northern Rhones and lots of other b……t he’s making up as you’re both yapping along. Not one of my favorite episodes, this…
And when does Condrieu ever taste like chardonnay?
    Well I’m in a grumpy mood aren’t I?

  • I liked the show. Interaction was fun and the joy on Gary’s face was worth the price of admission. I’d love to try the wine but I’m not worthy of a $45 bottle of wine yet.

  • Good show, Alan is a cool guy I’ve met a couple times at wine events in the Bay Area. His magazine has come a long way since I first saw it in October — kudos to him, he does give good hustle to have come so far so fast. I want to try that Texier Viognier, but the budget right now doesn’t allow… I’ll have to make do with my employer’s Viognier (jccellars.com) from all French (and mostly Condrieu) grapes in the meantime.

QOTD – pictures, nice ones. The aspect of a fantastic picture on paper will bring something web will never have.

Loved this show – I had been wanting to see a viognier tasting for a long time now!

The guest was very cool.. as a magazine designer myself I’ve got to ask – any jobs going?

Gary, I’m wondering. Does it ever bother you how much wine you flat-out waste? Tossing, spitting, rinsing…it breaks my heart, man. I shudder to think how many glasses, bottles, cases, etc, you must burn through in a day, week, month, year. Have you ever contemplated this??

  • A million times better than the debacle in SD. A knowledgeable guest paired with some doggone good ABC wines. Since I am a day late with watching this episode, it was ironic I was on a Viognier buying excursion yesterday to a nice little wine shop in Fredericksburg, VA.

QOTD: I’m always a big fan of wine pairings so do a “Ten Best Wine Pairings” or something to that effect.

Great show, for some reason I’m in a spendy mood and I think I will seek out the Condrieu. It seems like something I’ve been looking for.

QOTD: I don’t know, I think I will subscribe and check it out, and then maybe a marketing internship in the summer of 2010 🙂

  • Gary,

Never left a comment before (although we’ve certainly emailed back and forth a few times). Funny too, since I think I’ve now been watching since the 200’s or something crazy like that.

At any rate – this morning Eric Texier came to our winery and the three of us tasted through our barrels for several hours with him. A very great and humbling honor. I felt compelled to tell him about this and post a comment afterward.

Me: Hey! Did you see your Condrieu was just on Gary Vaynerchuk’s show?

Eric (confused): Who ees theese guy? I do not know him.

(So I got my laptop from the office and pulled up this episode…)

Me: This is very popular. A lot of people watch this.

Eric (bemused): Theese guy ees kind of a crazy guy I think…

Me: Look, he just swallowed your wine! He never does that with anybody’s wine!

Eric (laughing): I like thees. Yes, I think theese guy ees the kind of guy to sell a lot of wine. Can you send thees show to me?

Suffice to say, he was definitely pleased by your reaction and it was a great pleasure to be the one to show this to him. Made him a rightfully proud vigneron.

PS- The best fun fact of the day for the kiddies? Eric told us afterward that he ages that Condrieu in acacia barrels. I thought that was pretty awesome and I thought you’d appreciate it.

QOTD: You would have to secure these from a few collectors, but I’d like to see an article that covered a retrospective tasting of random mass-market beverages that failed miserably – ie. Crystal Pepsi, Orbitz, etc.

  • Great episode and great guest! I’m a HUGE Viognier fan and I’m going to do my best to find that Condrieu. Unfortunately, Tennessee does not let me order it so I may have to employ some persuasion to get it in stock.

Cool looking magazine, I just subscribed… how can you not for that price? VERY awesome that you’re taking input from your readers, that’s what magazines have to do these days to keep up with internet media, imo. Redefine the paradigm!

  • Great video; however there are 2 things I disagree with. First and foremost, Michael Jordan is the GREATEST and secondly, I wish you would have tasted a Virginia Viognier. Corcoran Vineyards is my all time favorite Virginia Viognier; however, Pearmund Cellars and Hornton Vineyard are other excellent choices.

I’d like to see The Other 46 states featured in Mutineer Magazine.

Also, thanks to Brian and the 82nd Airborne!!!!

    Keep up the great work!
