line of the day – ‘the amount of tropical fruit that has been going down my pipehole lately has been shocking’

Great episode. GV starting to get a bit cocky, but that suits this episode. The guest was really knowledgeable and the final wine was a monster. Even Mott had some decent input! Nice one.

No worries on being a lightweight Gary; I think you are still cool. Keep the Nintendo references coming!

I?d also like to extend hearty congratulations to you and to Lizzie on your baby news.

    That was another great episode.

hmmm, smokey herbs, mush rooms on the chalkboard, maybe Gary spendign too much time in Cali.

mag look s like it rocks, I’ll be checking it out for real

QOTD: Haven’t had a chance to see the magazine yet but I’m a fan of pimping the local watering hole “off the beaten path” to direct people for ambiance or a signature drink, etc.

GV, about today’s show. . .”douchebag” . . .”Humble Pants City” . . .”swallowed a fireball from Donkey Kong”! Enough said. Peace.

    Nice episode. I love Condrieu.
qotd: I haven’t seen your publication, but I’d say try to make it appealing to people in the trade and consumers rather than focusing on only one group. Personally, I’d prefer more of a trade focus, but I think you’d be limiting your readership by doing that. If that’s already your focus, I say keep it up and I’ll be a new subscriber.

Virginia makes better viogniers than California GV. Get some VA viognier on the show. Great show.

  • A great show with a great guest. Love the interaction between the 2 of you. Thanks for pointing out that Viognier should not taste like Chardonnay.

QOTD: Can?t give advice as I haven?t seen it yet. I do LOVE the premise of no ratings.

Says more about the hiring practices of the Beverly hills Hotel, won’t being taking any of their sommeliers advice. How could they hire someone completely inexperienced? This guy still has no cred with wine. Hope he knows more about writing than he thinks he knows about wine.

GV: You missed it, why did he name the mag Mutineer? I must be missing something.

    QOTD: duh

    Gary,
I’m interested in your thoughts regarding the aging potential of this varietal. Lots of talk out there concerning Viognier’s tendency to oxidize in a matter of a few years. Clearly that ’05 Texier is still going strong, eh?

  • Honestly, Gary you shouldn’t have the bottles in front of your face either. Find a neat way to display the bottles without them being in the way, maybe on a small shelf BEHIND you?

“Why wasn’t I able to secure the first issue?” – Gary you’re adorable.

First guest ever to have the balls to call Gary a light weight, them’s fightin’ words!

I talk about Donkey Kong all the time. Have you ever thought about how there is no donkey in donkey kong, and that it got it’s name from a mis translation when the game came to America?

qotd; Ok im emailing you, im gonna write some stuff about the Hudson Valley scene.

Nice one! I love the Viognier and major props to Brian, my son is also 82nd Airborne!

QOTD: I ‘d like to see some detailed food and beverage pairings, not just thrown in as an after thought.I picture maybe something like a classic dish with two or three recommended wines and how each brings out differences and then a beer or two and a suggested non alcoholic beverage.

QOTD: I want to learn. Tell me something I want to know, need to know.

Alan Kropf is a bright young man. I envy the sommelier knowledge.

  • pawncop

Another great episode with a really strong guest with a very good palate. I very much enjoyed the interaction between you two.

QOTD – I want good solid information and ideas that will meet my expectations.

Unless you have a very good customer feedback process, that will be difficult.

I will try your magazine when I can find it. The very best of luck to you and your staff.

Good guest, just picked up a subscription to his magazine online. Looks pretty innovative and for 10 bucks for 6 issues no big deal if its not.
