line of the day – ‘the amount of tropical fruit that has been going down my pipehole lately has been shocking’

Great episode. GV starting to get a bit cocky, but that suits this episode. The guest was really knowledgeable and the final wine was a monster. Even Mott had some decent input! Nice one.

Great episode! I love viognier, but I love the fact that it’s still under the radar and an exceptional value play. I think I might pick up a bottle on my way home from work this week.

QOTD: I want to see new and interesting things reviewed (like when Gary V. did that “blood” episode a while back) … but I also want some guidance on to where to find these products.

Also, I’d like to hear more about what people are drinking in other countries. The beer I drank in Italy was different from an American or Belgian brew, and then their entire coffee experience is completely different from our own – yet I didn’t know about this until I actually traveled there! I want to know about what they drink in Japan or Australia or Belize, etc etc. The more, the better.

I will absolutely check out the magazine, hope it does well.

Interesting episode, though it felt kinda like an interegration at certain points.

Though in fairness I do feel that you had reason to probe the guest on certain matters especially when his background was that of a top Sommelier working under G. Ramsey but couldnt even pronounce the Rhone Vally correctly, but instead referred to it twice as the Rogue Valley! I mena what is that all about. He didnt even know the infamous Rhone produce Yves Cullieron…I mean really?!?!?

Maybe im being pretty synnical…but on the flipside great wines….GV giving a 95…who would believe.

  • Ditch, you are aware that when he wasn’t referring to the Rhone Valley, but the Rogue Valley in Oregon mentioning producers like Hobbs .. right?

Loved the Viognier episode. Very exciting to find a wine that enjoyable. I will definitely try it.

  • And one more typo and I’m done .. ๐Ÿ˜› Hobbs = Dobbes, as in Dobbes Family Estate of the Rogue Valley in Oregon.

props to brian and the 82nd

maybe i am past my limit on vodka, but this seemed like one of the better guests recently. also helps that it was on my favorite white wine….

QOTD: i would like to learn about those brave souls willing to go against the grain and develop products that are true their nature and their maker….

Good one, men, especially the Condrieu. Not only is the planting area small, but yields are strictly limited, and , if I’m not wrong, no irrigation is permitted.

Ditch – you called it on Master Yves Cuilleron. He makes two great wines with Morgan Clendenen (wife of Au Bon Climat’s Jim), with grapes 50% from Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, and 50% his Condrieu property. See Cold Heaven Winery.

    Lobster and Viognier. Yummmm.

Gary: Donkey Kong brings the THUNDER.

Alan: It’s great that you’re including beer in the mag. I think good beer is often under-appreciated. I’ll be checking out the Mutiny…

    Great episode!

  • I have not as of yet tasted Condrieu or any South African whites for that matter, and I know this is getting like a scratched record, they are on my ‘to drink’ list which has more wines that my ‘already tasted’ list.

    QOTD:
I agree that the magazine business can be a powerful one and if well connected and supplemented, can be a great medium.
Also, I agree with commenter Rich Ritter, a beverage art or food art or label art section with contests would be a fantastic addition to both the online and print magazine.

Thank you Brian for protecting this country! Happy 23rd birthday!

Great guest Gary! I love the journalist/wine/writing/hustling guests that know what they want. He seemed pretty into food and wine pairings which is cool and he loved the nose on the last two wines haha…. he couldnt put down the glass, just smellin’ away.

QOTD: I want to hear about anything, beer and wine. I need to look into the magazine sounds pretty cool.

    I’m a little pissed off…

Granted it’s about 6 hours after the show aired but I just got home and watched the episode and am excited about the Condrieu wine. But when I clicked the link, it was already sold out…in 6 hours! Crap, I live 3 minutes from the store and if I got home earlier I could’ve ran over and bought it.

I understand this happens alot with wines Gary really likes but it seems like it used to take longer for them to sell out. First it was a week or two, then it became a few days to a day, and now HOURS…pretty soon it’ll be sold out before Gary’s spit even hits the bucket.

QOTD: I’ll get back to you when I’ve read it, but at $10 for 6 issues, you’re already kicking the butts of all of the nearly $100/year wine magazines out there, & I’ll be subscribing shortly!

Good call Murso……what wih him being a Somme I thought he would at least know one producer from the appellation.

  • QOTD: I want truth and honesty and even if the back cover is purchased by a big name wine or spirit company and their stuff is complete crap, you will still tell us that in the same issue dispite the coin you just made from that back cover knowing they’ll probably never purchase another one again.

I’m looking forward to reading an issue soon. I’ve got some great ideas and can provide some input wherever you need it, and would love to freelance if the opportuntity would present itself. Alan, hit me up via the link in my name.

  • Love it. Guys like Alan are why I love what I do. I had the chance to meet Alan and some of the Mutineer crew in Seattle the Friday before TASTE Washington and was so impressed. The magazine is top notch and I urge anyone who likes to drink ANYTHING to pick up a copy.

    Cheers

Thanks, Alan, for the good words about Rogue Valley wines. We lease 80 acres of vineyards on our historic ranch near Jacksonville and the growers sell fruit to Joe Dobbes, who also does custom crush for their South Stage Cellars label. Gary, Rogue Valley wines might be an interesting episode.

Great show…great guest! Even so young, he seemed to know a lot. I like him talking about the food in the restaurant and what they paired with the wine.

I will check out the magazine. Thanks Gary!

No worries on being a lightweight Gary; I think you are still cool. Keep the Nintendo references coming!

I?d also like to extend hearty congratulations to you and to Lizzie on your baby news.

    That was another great episode.
