87/100

The guest was a really nice guy but the sound was fuzzy and distant throughout and for that reason it only gets an 87

Gary, you killed it. Really one of my favorite episodes, thought both of you were great!

  • Jack Nicholson

First time posting on here, these past two episodes have been exeptional. Hats off to Prof. Boyer at VT for intoducing us to the Vaynernation.

QOTD: Jenson Button and Team Braun are looking dominant right now, but Vettel is my dark horse to win it all. Once they get to europe i think it will be a totally different ball game

Great show again- I finally remembered who he reminds me of: one of our neighbors, who’s also our family photographer.

QOTD: I don’t know, I try to avoid car racing, to be honest. But I would take Formula 1 over stock cars.

Awesome show Gary. I really enjoyed the interviews with Peter — really brought light to recent American wine making history. Keep it up!

  • Great two-part show. I have never had Krug wines, will try and find them. On a side note I prefer the French Sauvignon Blancs than any other, they’re just better for me.

QOTD: No doubt Barrichello, Hamilton or Trulli will give something ot talk about in the Monaco or Turkey stages. Fisichella and Alonso will come up fast as well you’ll see.

gary were you not impressed with the last wine? the tasting time and discussion of it ended very abruptly. no good?

QOTD: I think Jensen Button is getting very lucky because Brawn have adapted very well to the new rules, but look out in a few more rounds when the big teams get a handle on the new car specs etc properly.

    great episode, again.

    Phenomenal guest Gary! Very informative.

QOTD: I have no idea… Danica Patrick? Does she even do Formula 1? I know
she isn’t in NASCAR so I’m assuming its Formula 1.

Very interesting chat Gary! Keep on the good work!

QOTD: Räikkönen is the winner, even if he does not have the most points.

QOTD: This weekend in Barcelona will set the pace. If Ferrari, McLaren, Renault has done their homework and can seriously challenge Brawn GP, then we?ll have an interesting season.
Otherwise, Brawn GP will have an easy slum dunk winning constructor?s and Button being the champ.
Being optimistic, Ferrari will hit back, Massa will get his act together, challenge Button and win in the last race.

  • Great guest, Gary. You did a better job this time of letting him express himself without cutting him off here and there.
I’m also curious what happened with the last wine- you barely assessed it after the “whirl;” was this kinda just an oversight or did you conveniently opt out of nitpicking about the palate by letting him talk in the end?”

QOTD: Haven’t watched any F1 this year- no tv right now!

  • Really good guest. You can tell that – while he’s essentially a winery owner – he’s very familiar with all aspects of the business and production: the vineyard, the winery and the marketing. I guess that’s what happens when you start helping out in the winery at “age 8”.

Gary! I will be honest and blunt with you! Why you didn’t say the score for the Mondavi Reserve? Did you think that it would be too big of an important person to loose at this point in your career? If you loose your fierceness this fast, you’re going to loose your fans even faster.
A wine critique won’t command respect in the audience if they become timid and compliant, no matter how big the product or producer name or influence is. This was one of the low points in your show that I will remember for long time. I wish to keep my fate in you, please help us with it by being the same guy who rated Camus, Insignia, Opus one and Mondavi reserve all in one episode (something that has not happened recently).

    Hi GARY–great show!

you always mention sideways’ impact on merlot–and I know it did have an impact, but FUN FACT–there is a NYT article in archives about tanking sales of merlot some 6 months before sideways was released.

ALSO GARY—PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE discuss 2008 bordeaux. WS and RP scores are hugely different. Where do you weigh in on the vintage and buying futures. THANKS!

QOTD: Brawn are definitely looking strong at this stage, but I wouldn’t count McLaren and Ferrari out yet. I’ve been a Jenson Button fan since his BAR days, but ultimately I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed that my fellow countryman Kimi Räikkönen rebounds.

Also, Danica Patrick races IndyCar, not F1.

QOTD: I stand by the Finns whenever it comes to motorsports. I’m really pulling for a Kimi Räikkönen comeback but my answer to this question would be Heikki Kovalainen and team McLaren.

Stellar guest! Great show! It’s great to know that there might be a Cali Sauvignon Blanc out there that is worthy of some conversation. I love many of the Marlborough SBs and many Sancerres. I have to mention that a restaurant-owner-friend gave me a bottle of the 2005 Charles Krug Family Reserve Generations red wine, and I found it to be too CALIFORNIA–overripe fruit, over-oaked, and simplistic; however, I have to include the caveat that my friend did not have a proper wine storage unit–it sat on the shelf of his restaurant for at least 6 months–so the bottle may have spent some time in a less than ideal storage climate.

Peter Mondavi is definitely my favorite guest you’ve had on WLTV. His knowledge of the history of Napa and the Wine World made this one of the most interesting, exciting shows ever. Gary, you did a great job of interviewing with rapid questions and fit in lots of info. The SB tasting was like “The Judgement of Nashville”.

QOTD: Admittedly, I know nothing about Formula One Racing.
