90/100

line of the day – ‘If anybody knows who wears No 70 for the New York Jets I will give them $4,000, GO’

Phenomenal – slagging off a $70 wine, 2 yards away from the guy who donated it to the show and not batting an eyelid. You have to be impressed.

QOTD: A 2007 red wine from the Anjou region of the Loire valley. I forgot the name and ended up pouring it down the drain. Just very weak, watery and the alcohol was far too noticeable.

Another episode where the crowd was having a ball or at least so it seems. That is as it should have been.

QOTD – A Vie Manent, a chardonnay from Chile, very over oaked for my palate.

QOTD: Haven’t had a disappointing wine in 30 days. I guess I’ll have to keep on tasting till I find one.

Wow, I’m so jealous of everyone who went! Last year when I saw the ad for the cruise, I decided not to participate in order to save some money for possibly going to grad school full time. But half year later, I just got back from California wine trip which cost me over 4 grand! (not that I regret going, it was an experience of a life time) I’m so going to the next cruise (hopefully there will be one).

QOTD: 2006 Sequoia Chardonnay….loved their Cabs when I went to their vineyard during my trip, which prompted me to try their chardonnay when i got back home….utterly disappointing…overpowering alcohol….i’d rather have the over oaked chard than whatever this was….

QOTD: I’d love to check Cork’d to see what my most disappointing wine of the last 30 days is, but it’s down again. Gee, if only I could tell the owner of Cork’d what I thought… :-p

    QOTD:
Even for a 12-15 dollar bottle of wine, the 2007 Domaine de Vaufuget Vouvray I had last week was very disappointing. It was really one note, tasting mainly of dried, very ripe banana and virtually no nose. Also, I haven’t had much experience with Chenin Blanc, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. Even the alcohol level was pretty low (I think is was 11. something) and wasn’t even a good wine to get drunk with.

What a rowdy croud, I love when they all join in to boo the wines. But good show regardless.

  • Poor Titus folks got trashed in person. You handled the situation with class.

QOTD: Some crappy overly fruit-bombed sweetish merlot by the glass at a bar. Couldn’t tell you the name, I completley blocked out the whole experience until you just asked.

Hey Sarno wear your BLN tag with pride, I have and you will find that the message board peeps with their rough introductions are actually cool people with a collective knowledge of wine that you will come to appreciate and enjoy. It is all in good fun.

    2004 Ch. Talbot…totally blew.

I enjoyed seeing the live Ustream feed of the WLTV from Omaha! Too bad there were only about 20 of us watching.

QOTD: Easily a N.V. Beringer Stone Cellars Pinot Grigio- it came in a little 187ml plastic bottle & was just awful; watered down to nothing. I don’t know who would allow such at thing to be released to market, especially since Beringer can put out some serious Cabs when they put their mind to it, but that individual should be fired.

damm Gary….whats up man..just wasnt feeling any passion with that show, probably the least passionate episode out of the 672…were you feeling sea sick or just bullied by the crowd into banging out your umpteenth seminar.

ROUGH!!! But you have to call them like you see them, and these wines clearly didn’t perform well.

QOTD: Without naming names, it was a Rose of Pinot Noir from a sparkling wine producer in Massachusetts. Damn that was so bad that I remember it all too vividly… and with as much tasting as I do as a wine bar buyer, I really try to forget the worst ones. Brutal.

I just finished a bottle of the 2005 Quilceda Creek Red Wine. It got 93 pts parker but it showed so much of the alcohol(14.9) that I left half of the bottle over recorked in the fridge and finished it 2nite. I am still disappointed and the alcohol was still very evident through out the flavor profile. Maybe I got a bad bottle. Let me know if you try it.

It’s a shame the wine didn’t bring the thunder but that what the heck it happens.

QOTD. A pepperwood pinot noir 2007. Kind of one dimensional not interesting.

  • For most wines, fortifieds and sparkle excluded, 14.0% ethanol is the cut off point for taxes paid to the federal government. Over 14.0% and you pay 10 cents more in federal taxes per bottle. Also, when you are over 14.0%, you legally have 1% to play with on the label, so if your wine is actually 15.0% you can label it as 14.1%. Moral of the story, wines labeled under 14.0% may not be that low, and Zinfandels and Syrahs lableled at 14.9% may actually be as high 15.9%.

Drank your highly ballyhooed Quiteria Loma Gorda. Solid wine but the last (large) glass of it had s much sediment I had to spit it out. Damned unpleasant.
Also your eqyakkt gtoed Delhommeau Muscadet Harmonie. This had no muscadt character whatsoveer; it was pure Tropicana graefruit juice, and not the kind from the carton.
Both were on the inexpensive side but when you reccommend stuff highly, I expect to not have to spit stuff out or throw it away.

Shame about the wines – esp the cote rotie

QOTD – the bigest dissapointment I had was a Chateau Chantegrives 2004 Graves, it has so much bad acidity it was undrinkable and at 12 euros was very dissapointing

Ouch, rough show, GV. It’s been a while since I left a comment, but your QOTD got me in the game…

QOTD: Elderton Command 2000 – I just had it 2 nights ago. So oaky it’s nearly undrinkable. It was like drinking hickory barbecue sauce. Brutal stuff.
