    Hey Gary,

Great show with a ton of great facts. You seemed a bit distracted at the begining and after that quick glitch you seemed to change. Off days happen to the best of us.

QOTD – I’m one of the peeps that has been asking for a mic. As a producer, I still say you should have one AND use the camera mic for the “lens tosses” and important ambient sounds. Putting a mic on you (or one mounted above your head) will help eliminate the cavernous sound. Most def when you are interviewing or in larger room.

I’m a 45 minute drive away and would be happy yo help.

    Will Mott record the birth?..LOL

    Keep crushing it!

QOTD: no mic – I like the screaming 🙂

Definitely agree that you should do more Burgundy shows – maybe even dedicate a few in a row to the different Burgundy regions and their differences? That would be fun!

I don’t think the mic matters when you’re in the office. It would be great if you had more than one so you could use them with guests in other locations.

I appreciate that you try to include information into the episodes, and it’s almost always accurate, but I think that element did more to confuse than inform this time. I know you were saying “vinho tinto” instead of “vinho regional” by accident, but you didn’t really clarify. I also think it’s inaccurate to refer to vinho regional/Vin de Pays/IGT, etc. as being somehow inferior to the more controlled counterparts (AC, DO, etc). You referred to them as “average bulk wine” and although you score them highly sometimes, that is simply not true. These designations are for wines that do not fit into the strict guidelines of the more controlled ones. I won’t get into it too much because I know you know what I mean, but you have referred to Vin de Pays and the other countries’ counterparts that way several times. It’s that kind of thinking that makes it so hard for creative wineries in old-world countries to gain recognition.

Don’t get me wrong, your show is great and I appreciate all that you do for your viewers, including me.

I think you should get an overhead shot of the wine to see and appreciate the color, that would be pretty cool.

QOTD: no wireless mic, sounds great as is..

Another great show. Thanks for turning me on to portugese wines. Have to agree they are an incredible value for the quality you get.

  • ndog

Man K&L has the ’05 for $25! Was that year that much better and the price will drop or is the West Coast just on to these already?

QOTD: No. But I agree with previous comments that a mic would be helpful during remote shoots.

Great episode! I’m always excited to hear you talk about Portugal. Unfortunately my local retailer has a dearth of Portuguese wines, and I feel like I’m missing out.

No need for a mic unless you are taping in a new location. Gary, you really need to read my comment on air because I have been putting up with you for 600+ episodes;]

GV, you don’t need a mic. Your passion for wine naturally makes your volume high. However, with the mic, I can really hear the swishing of the wine which makes me wish I was tasting along with you!

Gary, what ever happened to the “… and this my friends, OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH this, is the Thunder Show…” in the opening of WLTV??? Can you bring that back??? please…

  • Love the fun facts GV.

QoTD: No way. Your audio is better than 99% of all web content. If you “mic up” your guests, Mott and others will not be able to step in and go off the cuff which makes your show so dynamic at times.

No Joke GV, one of your best shows. Must be the baby excitement. BTW, best wishes from Tara and myself. Man do we need to get into Portugal! QOTD: Mikeless, baby, mikeless!

    LOVE the fun facts, GV.

QOTD: Skip the mic, sweet thing. Think breast enhancements — if you job up a great rack, you gain volume and sacrifice quality. Au natural wins every day of the week in my opinion.

Gary…you’re loud enough…don’t mic up! Just give Mott a glass already!

No, don’t use a wireless mic. It’s going to cut out Mott’s interaction and it’s really not needed. You sound fine.

You had me giggling when you went back to the Esporao. That was definitely a little mental massage break.

Do not use a mike. I listen to your show with headphones, so if got a mike, I would have to turn the volume WAAAYYYYY down.

I’m new to your show and really enjoy your boundless energy, enthusiasm and unique way of describing your tasting experiences. Keep up the good work.

Aside Question: My husband and I are going to NAPA for the first time over Memorial Day. I got an appointment to visit Orin Swifts Tasting room. Anyone have any other recommendations to visit?
