  • Great show today Gary! Really glad you’re tasting and showing everyone different areas, I will definitely try to get my hands on the 2006 Esporao Reserva Red 🙂

QOTD: I think you are fine without wearing a mic, you usually speak loud enough to hear perfectly

    Hey Gary

Definitely YES on the mic. Especially when you have guests, or when you are on location in places where it’s tough to hear.

Wondering what happened to the episode today?…….

is there a new arrival perhaps? 🙂

It’s too bad. Gary seems to just be turning himself into a business. Putting up all the facebook “buy my book now, spread the word now” stuff. You people don’t realize but youre getting sucked in only so he makes more money.

It’s not the same Gary as I knew from years ago when I first started watching. I’ve been a fan since episode 14 and it’s not the same anymore…. Oh well.

Enjoyed the show. As you might know, I am a little partial to Portugal, especially, the Alentejo region since my wife’s family has roots there.

Really liked the Esporao 2006. Actually, preferred it over a Cali Cab(which are my favorites) at a Baptism recently.

Gary, love your Pronounciation of Alentejo. The J isn’t silent more of a zhu(slight sshh) to it. AL-en-te-zhu.

You’re the best G; Keep it up with “No Mic”.

It seems like I’ve focused so much on Portugal lately that I need to try something else to expand my pallet… yet you pull me back in.

QOTD: No mic when in your controlled office area. But when on location a mic would be nice. Your voice can carry well enough, but sometimes you fight echoes and when you have guests, their voices may not stand up to yours – thus I’m volume up… volume down… repeat when wearing headphones.

K man lighten up. We know Gary wants to be a billion dollar Jets owner and that is a little sad. Where else are you going to get his kind of sincere passion and knowledge? Some things may have changed a little but almost everyday he is there pumping out the serious content for us. No charge. Most of us are or have been customers and we bitch a little now and then but WE are gonna change the friggin wine world. He also has some of the best prices in the world.

Wear a mic, I think it will sound so much better. There are times when you are reaching around or picking up the bottles that your voice isn’t heard that well

Shooting video is what pays for my wine. You can trust me on this one. Radio mic’s are a last resort for when the talent (that’s you babes) is on the move and a good system will cost twice as much as the best Sennheizer directional mic’ that Mot can mount on his camera (though he may need another bracket). If you want to improve your audio, that’s the way to go… or maybe just a good wired clip mic’ but you’ll get tangled up in it and it will piss you off AND THE OTHER THING TO REMEMBER IS THAT USING JUST A CLIP MIC’ WILL MEAN HEARING LESS OF MOT! I say go the other way and have a dedicated Mot cam’. Peace and Love – a.

  • I love the show and your passion! No Mic! Genuine and real! The Wayne G was the only one you needed lapel mics on.

  • JenB: Here are my picks for tasting rooms/tours “experiences” in Napa. Granted, my opinions.

    1) Beringer
    2) Domaine Carneros
    3) Darioush
    4) Del Dotto
    5) Schramsberg
    6) Grgich Hills (for your husband or significant other, the staff is gorgeous and their Chard is amazing)

Last but not least, you have to stop by Mondavi.

Great review on the Esporao Reserva 2006! Unfortunately it’s sold out on Gary’s website, but you can purchase it on http://www.Portuguesewinehouse.com

QOTD: I defer to the informed, expert opinions on which types of mic are best for your arrangement. But: You’ve definitely got to do something, and do it fast, to improve the audio of The Thunder Show, *especially* when you are in a remote location with a guest. The Great Gretzky is nearly inaudible on the show in which you interviewed him (you were hard to hear too) — the bad sound ruined what could have been one of your best episodes ever.

QOTD. At home is fine. THe accoustics on the road i.e. Gretsky et al are disappointing because the dialog is inaudible. Best, Naples Kathy aka Champagne Lady

Thank you Gary! For educating us on wine and life all this time.
Baby countdown!! Congratulations and blessings to the baby, you, your wife and family!! Huge moment!!

I love Portuguese wines too; maybe it?s in my DNA. (Portuguese ancestry?)

About that ESPORÃO wine, I think you should note the influence of prized Australian Winemaker David Baverstock. That?s the magic: Old world terroir plus new world talent.

QOTD: Yes. (Although the camera sound is fine, why not keep improving the show?!)

    Re K Man comment:
K Man…Food for thought?.Go back and watch the “Crush It” episode where GV tells us about the new book and tastes wines that he thinks will “Crush It.” Well, the wines did not “Crush It,” and GV’s last words on the episode are something to the effect of: “I hope you are all starting to get it, price and quality in wine do not go hand in hand.” My quote is not exact, but you get the point. This is a wine merchant telling it like it is, and possibly hurting his sales of expensive wine in the process (where the profit margins are juicy). Please applaud GV for hustling his ass off and trying to make coin in an honest fashion. He ain’t perfect, but he’s consciously trying his best.

QOTD: wear a mike if its in a busy/noisy environment or when you are far from the camera (like the show you did with the canadian hockey dude who has his own wines)…Otherwise, we can hear you LOUD and clear!

I have a bottle of the Esparao 2005 waiting…prob drinking it next week!

So, what wine/port have you gotten to mark this joyous occassion? So when your baby hits 21…you have got a 21 year old bottle to pop open! Wonder if you’ll still be screaming at us then!!! 😉

I vote you keep it acoustic, GV. We can hear you just fine and I remember the mic experiment a ways back really creeping me out. It sounded like you were in the camera, not in front of it.

That said, it may help to mic up your guests, especially if you know they’re the low-key type ? Peter Mondavi most recently. I’ve had some fun times with my ipod wheel doing volume gymnastics during a few of those interview episodes.
