  • I’m going to look for that Esporao tonight.

    QOTD: I like it without.

  • Back to back homeruns! Great show and thank you for putting a smile and informing every evening for the past two years?!

I enjoyed the “quiet moment” it was quite special and by all means, please nerd it up! I want to learn and experience everything there is to know about wine. You are my guru.

QOTD: No mic! Keep it real my man.

We are anxiously waiting with baited breath for the new joy of your life.

    Cheers!

  • One other thing I forgot to mention. The label on the first wine is absolutely gorgeous so I’m off now to get crushed by Portugal. Good show. I said that. 🙂

QOTD: I Agree with the NO MIC folks, keeps it simpler and more casual. It would be good for the live shows though. Loved the moment of silence, it makes your THUNDERous pace even more striking.

    Thanks GV!

QOTD: No for quiet venues, (like your office), Yes for loud venues, (like SF #500 which was a LOUD crowd:).

Really enjoy the Portugal episodes. Trying to taste more wines from that region but noting that they are still hard to come by here in the PNW. I must not be looking in the right places, or else I need to do more internet shopping.

Love the wines from Portugal. Thanks for a good episode.

QOTD – Pilot the study – five (5) days with the mic, five (5) day without.

Gives us a better chance to evaluate.

Hey Gary great show! I really have been enjoying your shows as of late. I like th fact that you’re nerding it up. I’m finding it very informative. I have to agree Portuguise wine is rock solid. I have yet to find a bad portuguise wine. Keep bringing the Thunder.

QotD: The sound is fine, why wear a mike? So basically: no. On location: maybe yes.

White paper: idea is good, but just a sheet of paper in your hands makes it look amateur. Try something more rigid.

Love the show, always a happy moment when I see a new one has appeared on my iPhone!

  • Jay

Can’t get enough of the Portugal shows. The van Zeller and Lamos folks just keep hitting it out the park especially. QOTD: no real need when you’re “at home,” but “on the road,” go with the mike.

  • Thanks for more coverage of my native land Portugal. My Mom is soo happy! her family is from Madeira.

QOTD- Mic not needed in office, but desperately needed offsite and in loud places like stadiums.

QOTD: don’t bother with the mic man, it’ll cramp your style. On the road though, as everyone else said, necessary.
Great show, you were all over the place and focused at once. So much ENERGY. Wish you the absolute best over the next few days. And years. And generation.

QOTD: Definitely *YES* especially on your guests when you have them. The difference in perceived volume between you and your guests made many of those episodes almost impossible to listen to … at least at work!!! 🙂

If you adjusted the volume so that Gary’s voice was not too loud you often could not hear the guests. Conversely if I increased the volume so as to hear the guest, whenever Gary spoke it would blast out.

I suspect it’s a combination of microphone placement and the timbre of Gary’s voice hits the sweet spot of his current microphone.

Would you like mayo on that turkey sandwich?
No thanks, that would make it too moist and delicious.
Should you wear a mic ?
No, that would make the show sound better!
Better quality is not selling out.
