qotd: absolutely not: I’ve stayed silent for several hundred episodes, but I genuinely think the microphone idea is a future headache waiting to happen. Stick to your guns, afterall you’re already “Crushing It”

Loved the episode. Wanted to see the call. No on the mic. Your loud enough. That’s a good thing though.

Have to make one more comment because I just cracked up at something Gary said.

“Sometimes when something explodes in your mouth, your appreciative. Sometimes your not.”

    -That’s what she said 😉

    No mic. I’m a traditionalist.

Wasn’t quite sure of your focus on the first 10minutes, but you really ‘crushed it’ in the second half of the show.. Keep pumping out the value plays.. curious to see a show about eastern europian wines…Hungry, Slovenia etc….

qotd….No mic GV, your loud enough as is!

Congratulations on the baby. Sleep now, while you can.

QOTD: the sound is fine in your office, but please use a mic in noisy/live environments (restaurants, events with large crowds).

(So you know, I lurk because I have nothing useful to add to the conversation. See my nym for insight into my reasoning…)

    Nice show today though.

QOTD: Please, no mic. I remember when you tried this before, you max out the sound and it sounded terrible for a while. Stick with the regular camera microphone.

Good show, nice to see a relatively obscure region get its due.

Random quote from today’s show: “sometimes you have something explode in your mouth, and you don’t appreciate it”.

QOTD: absolutely not! Seriously, no mike. The day you use a fancy clip-on mike is the day my subwoofer no longer maxes out each time you throw something at the camera mike. And that, my friend, is one sad day (note: you did it 3 times this episode so don’t even pretend it’s not important)

Great show. I look forward to trying some Alentejo myself.

QOTD: No mic, your energy and voice are already a megaphone!

QOTD: No to a mic–you sound best “au naturale”. Love the “Fun Facts”–easier to listen and learn and much less time-consuming than reading something like the Oxford Companion to Wine–though probably one of the best references on the subject. The Quiet Pause was nice–in anticipation of the next wine–glug–glug–glug.

Great group of wines–thought you tasted the Esporao a few hundred shows back when it had large polka-dots on the label(I could be wrong) but you raved about it then–if it was indeed the same wine.

Big, big fan of Portugal. They’re always a go-to for me for byob restaurants.

How about some blind head-to-head? Anderson Valley, v. Russian River Valley Pinots….Napa, v. Sonoma…Chile, v. Argentina.

QOTD: Nah. When you wore the mic. for those few episodes it sounded canned and thru off the flow. No need for the change.

    De Nada.
QOTD: A mic will give you better quality audio if it’s done right, but it’s not bad now. Also, when having a guest, a mic can be a real pain…

Another great episode. The area I am in does not bring in much french wine let alone wines from Portugal but I will look for the Esporao.

QOTD: No need for a mic unless your in a noisy room.

Where is Sir Gary Vaynerchuk? Is he locked in a closet in the basement of Wine Library?

GV – you got me thinking about the phases of WLTV… I’ve been watching for about 400 shows now. I would agree that some time periods are better than others. I really like the regular style shows (like the last two), but appreciate everything from the blind taste-offs, the single-wine spotlights, the head-to-head battles, and the ‘away’ games (at stadiums, wineries, conferences). I know you have been traveling more and more over the past 12 months, but I REALLY enjoyed the run of shows around the 2 biodynamic shows (the French guy and the California/Danish couple). Those were really good…

Otherwise, you need to get back to the couch on Fridays (incidentally, the site of the best line you’ve probably ever said, “this wine has more wood than a 9th grade gym class”).

QOTD – In your office, no mic.

Hi, QOTD no need for the mic except on those remote shows with an audience. I am trying Portuguese wines from the Douro Valley as there is a Altano Douro for around $8. I’ll have to seek out Alentejo.

When are you going to explore Bulgarian and wines from the Crimea (Massandra). Here in SF I see them in the Russian stores and would like to hear you take on them before I embark on a fuller exploration. They seem to be getting more exposure as I see my little corner store carrying them with a special promotion.
