could not care less about the mike. I have to say tho i really prefer the episodes in the hot seat with a fast pace and nerdy content. I do have a couple of unrelated suggstions tho. Every 2 months or so why not make a show for wine newbies, after a a few of those , make ’em a group link em up and use that as a wine tutorial. also, i know you have featured beer more often than any other non wine related topic, but i would love to see an episode devoted to aged beer. thanks for making the best vido blog ever.

  • Please, please, please: wear the wireless mike. Being able to hear what you are saying enhances the show.

hey gary, another excellent episode, on an area i haven’t explored yet. i’ve only had one portuguese still wine, and really enjoyed it. i’ll definitely have to track down the last two wines, it would be an interesting exercise to see where my palate is at.

qotd: i’m honestly not sure if you’ve ever tried a microphone on the show or not, which really makes me doubt you need it. but if you bought one already you might as well give it a shot, i’m sure people would let you know if they didn’t like it.

Try it for a day and see how it sounds and let the comments decide.

QOTD..Just say “NO” to the mike. Except when you have a guest that likes to mumble. Do you remember that jerk author you had on the show that everyone left nasty comments about? He talked under his breath and could have used a mike. I take that back. Like I said before…Just say “NO” to the mike.

  • the silence was interestingly nice btw.. quite peaceful..

QOTD: Yes to using a mic. At least give it a try for a bit. We’ll certainly tell you if it doesn’t meet our standards! 😉

Good show, enjoyed the info. We’re hosting our tasting group this Friday (started because of your Third Thirsty Thursday suggestion last year!) and have an all Portugal, mostly Douro region, line-up that we’re looking forward to.

Love the anticipation and the phone on the table- what a long, strange (& wonderful) trip you’re about to embark upon!

Good stuff coming out of Portugal for sure!

QOTD: I think the sound in the office is fine, but if folks like the mike go for it.

    Gary,

Long time watcher, first time writer. Loving the excitement over Portugal, keep it up. Forget the mic, not necessary with your voice. Good job with the comment paper to show color, I thought it helps. How about if you get the call while taping an episode, free champagne?

QOTD: I don’t understand why you would need a mic any closer to that new jersey mouth of yours, but whatever makes the show go on make it happen…

Gary, everytime you say thanks i feel bad because sometimes i dont have the time to leave a comment but i LOVE your show and your personality and if it werent for you i wouldnt know how to CRUSH IT!!!

  • Another great episode as usual and some more new wines to seek out.
QOTD: I watch everyday and you always sound money in Wine Library. Perhaps a mic for some of the off-site stuff, sometimes volumes a little low then.

  • WinePT

    QOTD: Doesn’t matter to me.
The silence was awkward, yet pleasing. I have finally caught up with 5 months of episodes now that school is out of session. Glad to be back up to date!

  • So good to see you review the Portuguese wines. I like Tinta Roriz Douros, Touriga Nacional and Alentejano.

We attended a Herdade Do Esporão tasting last year and were blown away by the quality and price of these wines, see a bit here- http://www.garalysoka.com/diario/2008/11/25/viva-portugal.html. They also have a branded Vinho Regional Alentejano called Monte Velho, intensely herbal and peppery.

Hope your wife and baby are great! Cheers !

    QOTD: Yes, a stereo mic.

Wow, yesterday you got me all excited about Gigondas, now I’m all excited about Alentejo! I only thought of the Douro when it came to Portugal, thanks for the info.

I can only drink so much, may need to get another wine cooler at this rate.

Please go easy with the Burgundy episode, I’m on a budget!

  • Gary,

Great show as usual. Can’t wait to get ahold of a few bottles of the 2006 Esporao Reserva Red. Its especially mouth watering as the hotel I am in does not even have a mini-bar, much less wine in the rooms. What is this world coming to. These guys are definitely not crushing it.

QOTD: mic is not needed when you are at the office set!

don’t see the need for a mic in the normal location. the paper behind the wine doesn’t help me too much. still hard to see the color.

Loved the compare/contrast at the end with the last two wines, Old World vs New World. That helped a lot to understand what each wine brings to the table and how they relate to your palette.

You don’t need a mic but if you try one out, that can’t hurt.

  • QOTD: you don’t need a mic. you’re always moving around anyways, dont you think it would sound scratchy?? I’d rather you just normalized the volume before tacking on the intro sequence before each episode…sometimes i get my ears blown out then i’m like ok now it’s too quiet.

I’m lovin the Portuguese wines too! Price:Value ratio…that’s what I’m talking about!

    Cheers!

You down with BBD? Yeah, you know me.

    Play.

    No cork play?

    Play.

    Mic? Yep.

Very interesting energy on the show today… Unusual…

    Mmmm — yogurt wine…

    A yogurt play? Finally.

    Strawberry season coming up.

You always like when the Marlboro Man explodes in your mouth.

    I love tight.

Ooh Yeah — snap into a Slim Jim!

    Fare? Fair?

Really weird vibe today. Like a Bob Ross vibe kicking.

    Shirley Temple?

    Crack pipe smoking?

    The Golden Age…

You should have picked the Giants.
