lines of the day – when Mott looks at his watch off-camera ‘you gotta be somewhere Mott?’ and possibly my favourite line so far – ‘it gets a little like a pig farted, but you didn’t get swine flu’

Some of the comments GV gets are unbelievable (such as one of the ones he reads out here), like he’s getting too commercial and over-hyping his book. I guess jerks watch these shows along with the okay crowd. This is one of the most un-commercial shows on the internet and if you didn’t realise that – you’re stupid. Great show with some hilarious descriptions

QOTD: looks good, but it is too long!!! If you are going to beaz it, buzz it down to the skin (without razoring it).

BTW, awesome show. And you nailed the Cab, it WAS wine #1!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to speak about Priorat, about a very little family wine celler.

I LOVE the blind tastings. And it was great to have the same wine but different vintages in the tasting. Way to go Ian. QOTD: I like it. Got to keep short since the baby is coming. You can’t spend all the time in the mirror every morning like we all know you do. 😉

  • I have noticed Priorato wines creeping up in price. Still may favorite wine from Spain (generally speaking).

QOTD: Does your hair length affect your palate? Also, don’t worry about how pretty the label is, it’s what’s in the bottle that counts (metaphor alert!)

THE HAIR…longer CRUSHES IT! (But you’re a cutie with or without hair).

Really enjoyed this episode…never had a Priorat. Sounds like my kind of wine.

    Hang in there, Daddy!!

Who picked out the wines? Not a grenache-heavy choice in the bunch, and way to crush the cab. Great show, as always! I love the blind tastings. You prove that you know your stuff (assuming you don’t rig them…which I KNOW you would never, ever do…dude, get serious).

I hope WLTV survives the kid. I would certainly understand if it doesn’t, but that would be truly sad. Family first is the way I run my own life, though, so I wouldn’t expect less from you. Good luck, whichever way your life takes you.

    QOTD: Who cares? It’s hair.

You really “Smashed It” today Gary !!! Your cabernet call on wine #1 was almost like you had E.S.P…..N. Definitely “Smashed It” !!!

On the topic of WLTV – ‘All good things must come to an end’ although we wish they wouldn’t. That’s why I savor the good times like a fine wine.

QOTD: Grow your hair out to a length about down your beltline, then pull it all back into a ponytail (Steven Seagal-esque). “Smashed It”

PS – I just finished my book on sour mash bourbon called “Smashed It”.

WLTV might not survive the baby? Wow . . . that is a lot of pressure to put on your kid. You sure you want him or her to go through life as the reason that WLTV ended? I mean, its understandable that later in life you might blame a kid for having to use your camero fund for college, or for your weight gain or hair loss, but for single handedly axing our beloved shows? Ouch. No need to worry though. Its Jersey and your the boss of the V-Nation family. You’re much more likely to find yourself going out saying “Mott, I know it was you Mott. . . you broke my heart”

Thanks for all the knowledge and passion over the years. We’ll take it as long as we can get it.

QOTD: Like that you keep the lettuce tight. Peace.

Great episode Gary. Pretty cool on wine #1. You nailed it. Will seek out this region.

QOTD: Perfectly manicured head. Could double as a putting green. Now that’s an idea. A Garv V mini gold hole.

First – haven’t said this yet – but best of luck to you and Lizzie during the next few weeks!

Second – wanted to thank you again for the massive amount of content over the years. It has be very enjoyable (most of the time!), especially the great guests, the educational info, the wine vocab lessons, the wine recommendations, the laughs. It will be a sad day when WLTV shuts down.

Third – where have the shout-outs gone? I understand, your email crunch.

    QOTD – Looks good.

To me your greatest strength will always be tasting and breaking down wine, so continue on with it in whatever capacity possible, and make it pay gajillions if you can.

QOTD: You hair is great short– I remember you had some weird hair days back in the early hundreds. Much better short.

QOTD: Did notice the “do” before you mentioned it. Looks good. Seasonal.

Another fantastic show. Didn’t know the grape-breakdown on Priorat was a high percentage of grenache–which happens to be one of my favorites. I’ll have to pay attention more to these wines. I had the Vall Lach (probably the ’05) at the Grand Tasting in Oct. and liked it, but thought otherwise about purchasing it because the price sheet said it was 80 bones. In any case, several alternatives to choose from for a lot less as you have proved in yet another excellent blind-tasting show.

  • Way to nail the Cab blend Gary. DEFINITELY gonna have to get me a couple bottles of Priorat immediately. Purchasing some as we speak – very impressed.

QOTD: Digging the haircut. I need one myself.

  • Love the Spainish power plays, Priorat by far the star player for the momement in the world market, but dont limit to just the regions red grapes, there are a few amazing (and under priced) white wines comming from this area as well: Mas Igneus “Barranc dels Closos” $20 :Conreria d’Scala Dei “Les Brugueres” $28 and these are just what i have at home!
    But as always CRUSH IT

    QOTD: BIC IT!

  • This episode is priceless. I love Priorat, and of course, I lean more toward the Grenache-based ones. I tasted the Vega Escal Priorat 2005 during the Grand Tasting on the Thunder Cruise. I did not like it nearly as much. Gave it an 84pt score, and found it to be a little bit disjointed. I tried to buy a Clos Galena in the online store, and there’re two, same name, same vintage, obviously different prices, and I mistakenly picked the one that is on futures, and since I was using the Crush it promo code, I could not buy it. QOTD. I did notice the haircut right away, and it’s interesting because I got my haircut yesterday also, so we could have had it done at the same time. It’s not a manly thing to comment about another man’s looks, but Concepcion thinks that you look better with a little bit more carpet on the top floor. Great, great blind tasting show!

    ***GARY***(wonder if you’re reading this?),

Fantastic on hitting the Cabernet. First thing I did was check that as soon as the video was done. Really, super cool. Let me second so many of the comments here. WHY I HAVE BEEN WATCHING SINCE EPISODE #1 is simple. You’re good at tasting, and you’re often informative. You’ve got loads of energy. Today’s tasting notes were great. I have always loved the fact that supposedly “great wines” often receive low scores. You calls ’em as you tastes ’em, and that’s why I watch.

QOTD: It’s a haircut. It looks good, but not a real radical departure from styles of the past. It’s no Mohawk.

  • I love Priorat… but not how you always describe them. You’re always saying how they’re massive, bombastic wines. That is certainly the new trend there, with Jay Miller blowing up every single wine he tastes. However, there is still plenty of old school Priorat that is more like your 5th wine today… lighter bodied, subtle, and amazingly sublime in its approach. This is the type of Priorat that I love. It’s harder to find these days (and I certainly stay away from the Jay Miller 94+ point ones), but let us not forget this style… surely you’ve had way more Priorat than me, but every time you talk about it you talk about how big they are. Not always so…

QOTD: The hair is too short.

Greetings Vayno: Your current hair style is much better than your earlier spiked punked look. Mine is about the same; you could do this cut very easily yourself with an electric clipper.
About your opening comments: I have watched every episode, and I love the way you ‘go with the flow’, like a twig on the shoulder of a mighty river! Again, it is your show and you do it well; no need to keep asking us to critique your performance. You rock the house!
