One of the very rare episodes that didn’t really do it for me. The guest was a nice guy but knew nothing about wine (this can sometimes work in their favour…not the case here). Also in the mix was Mott trying to second guess GV for the umpteenth time so for once…not for me.

After 44 years of marriage, we no longer go out on date nights too much, preferring to stay close to home.
My hotter than ever wife dishes up yet another of her great meals, which at this time of the year, is enjoyed on the porch of our bungalow, where we watch the world go by.

    Gary,

You made me come out and comment. I bought the 2005 Havens from the retail side of WL on the Cinderella offer. I bought 3 bottles and popped the first one yesterday (what a coincidence!). I have to tell you that I absolutely loved it. And more importantly, my wife loved it!!! This wine is perfect for a couples night. We decanted it and thought the wine was perfect now or definitely good in a few years. Great show!

QOD: A night around town (movies, dinner, or a nice bar in DC) and finish off with a dessert at home with a nice wine. Good guest by the way, liked his line of work.

On a side note Gary, WineLibraryTV has been a great show to tune into. What you have provided us is invaluable. And I mean that, no amount of money could pay for what you have created with WLTV. Thank you. And I hope it never ends.

QOTD: A three hour dinner, somewhere that the food and the wine are conversation starters. Always trying to expand our palates and try new places and things.
2nd bottle sounds awesome. Love the blend of this wine. Cab Franc and Merlot. I am going to find it! I am also going to look for other wines with a blend like this.

QOTD: Love to linger over a dinner at a BYOB so we can enjoy some of the wine we have selected and haven’t paid 3 times as much for. Mostly, we stay at home and open a few bottles of interest on the weekend, and pair with food.

Well this is a little shameful to admit, but I guess I have to come out some time and comment… I’ve been watching this show almost religiously since the first Conan appearance… what episode, is that in the mid 300 range? Yikes.

So, I’m a lurker. And I know how you (Gary) feel about lurkers and I hope you don’t hate me for it… but I really, really love watching WLTV and I think you are inspirational in more ways than one. But I guess I’ve never been sure how I’d fit into this whole Vanernation thing or contribute to the discussions, so I’ve always sat it out. Hope you understand my reluctance to embrace my inner Vaniak, but I’ll try to give back a little more because I know you’ve given so much yourself. Is there any way I can make 300 episodes up to you? :p

  • When are you going to do a complete show on Rose? So many preople still think that Rose is sweet. Rose is an awesome food wine and pairs well with most summer foods. What do you think?

Sorry, I have to disagree with most of the comments. I didn’t like the guest. He reminds me of a lot of guys I’ve met that think they are smarter than they actually are. Phony-baloney.

  • Fun show. I totally agree that interesting wines provoke romance and good conversation (tasty food helps too). My husband and I actually started “date night” to start hitting some of the special and unusual bottles since we were coming up short with special occasions (read: excuses) to drink them.

I am curious…what’s your philosophy towards tasting whites like Sav Blanc, Rose, etc. at room temp instead of properly chilled? At least in the tastings we do here in Chile (I am a food/wine writer expat in Santiago), the Sauvignon Blanc here (which is amazing btw!!), , is pretty hot, like NZ, with alcohol (14.5%). I find that at room temp, the alcohol can actually cover some of the nuances in the mouth and even make the wine feel unbalanced. Would love to understand your reasoning!

QOTD: putting the other first. our best dates are whenever my wife and i are both putting the other first.

my wife is allergic to sulfites and can only drink low sulfite wine… do you know of any good wines low/sulfite free?

Gary, you rock. I’ve been watching you for about 2 years now, and you just keep pumping out great shows. I must admit that I haven’t been watching too much the last maybe 4 months, but when I do, it’s quality. You’ve really changed my life when it comes to wine, and I appreciate that. I just really appreciate that you are such a busy guy, and yet, you keep doing this for us. Again, you rock. Thanks.

  • Date nights are a must, whether you have kids or not, whether you are busy or not. All of us tend to fall into patterns and special nights are a great way to mix things up and to remember that there is so much to talk about and share..more tan what the day to day grind produces. G.V. you’ll be needing to schedule those for yourself with the little one joining the crew. Are you going to have any trouble getting the tike back from grandpa Sasha if he is doing the babysitting?

QOTD: We cook a lot at home and enjoy things from the cellar on a regular basis, so date nights are usually nights out at a good restaurant where we are off the hook for cooking and cleanup…

“Conversating”? That’s a new one, Gary. They sound like great wines, but the show was pretty much 87 points. Solid effort, but not changing my world.

QOTD: Dinner at a posh local restaurant for 3 solid hours of conversation and good times without the kids. A movie at home is nice, too. Ah, forget it: Pretty much any time I get to spend with my wife is special.

Long-time lurker here… I just had to comment on your guest’s smirk when you said “Mott, you’re not a big white guy…” 🙂

I’ll be in Sonoma this weekend, can you recommend a few must-go spots?

QOTD: We pop in “What About Bob” and laugh our asses off, while trying not to spill. Or, we’ll go to a nice French restaurant here in Portland, OR that is a 5 minute walk away. On the way back we’ll stroll through the park before making our way to a local wine shop to pick something up.

Love the show, Gary (and crew). Keep up the good work!

    Where’s the phone Gary?

That was pretty lame. The guest did not really contribute anything other than constantly plugging himself. That’s not hustle, there actually has to be some content there.

QOTD: Just sit on the deck. Thats all you need.
