QOTD: 2009…haven’t had a dessert wine. Don’t usually have them, although it’s nice to have a glass of it but its hard after opening a whole bottle. Still expanding on other wines now…

    About Mott?…Mott is super-duper awesomely great and…charming!
getting more into vino too! Cool! Rock on, Mott!

Good episode. I haven’t had a dessert wine this year. Mott is awesome. Good luck with the baby.

1st question: Darth Vayner is Brant Krihak dressed up with a huge fake black mustache and a Sherlock Holmes hat and makes “cameo” appearances on WLTV walking by in the background.

QOTD 1: no dessert wines yet in 2009
QOTD 2: Mott is the most awesomest DUDE

Good tight show! Love the 30 minute shows, but there is something about these short tight shows that just do the trick.

I’ve been trying to get into the dessert wine world. I just can’t seem to find where to fit them in. Probably anytime!

    MiniQOTD: No, unfortunately.
QOTD: I’ve only had one so far. 2005 Clos Dady Sauternes. And the Mottster is always awesome, always providing spot on comments.

Hey Gary, great episode, im a big sucker for dessert wines, not too many I don’t like. I don’t remember you talking about alvear too often, maybe you could do an alvear show. QOTD: Bailey’s winery Port Temecula Valley and Mott rules.

    Awesome variety, nice episode.

QOTD: Haven’t experienced many, but I had inniskillin and couldn’t stop sniffing it for days.

QOTD: Tawney ports of various ages and a Canadian ice wine.

Regarding ponies (one trick or other)- if you do hang it up for bigger (never better) give the reigns to Mott.

    Peace.

You should do some more sweet wines I would love to know more about them as well.

Hmmmmm… I love dessert wines but I really don’t like Viognier. Had about 20 different producers and there is something about the grape that put me off every time. Even in small amounts in a Shiraz/syrah viognier blend. Would I like it in dessert form?

    QOTD: 2001 Suduiraut Sauternes

    love the sweet stuff…

QOTD – Had a Greek dessert wine at a restaurant last month that was killer, but I forget what it was.

Mott is currently at 92+ points of awesomeness.

Well when you say dessert wines I want to include port if thats o.k. The best one I have had was at Broadbent Selections portfolio tasting. It was the 2001 Quinta Do Crasto Porto LBV at around 21 bones. Also, Ojai Vineyards makes a great late harvest Viognier

Great show. I love dessert wines, and wish you’d taste more of them. I’ve never tried a viognier-based one, so my palate is about to expand. That’s why I watch, Gary.

QOTD: I’m not sure which of many I liked best. I guess I’d say the Shadow Canyon Paeonia late harvest pinot blanc, at least among whites. Not your style, though. It’s very viscous and syrupy, although still balanced. I’m a big fan of port and had the Pocas 1982 Colheita not long ago, too. Very smooth, and while light for a tawny, its very interesting. And Mott rocks the house, of course.

  • Great show, Gary. Your comment about maple syrup just made me think of an experience I had last weekend. I visited a wonderful maple producer in Quebec that made alcohol beverages from maple sap instead of maple syrup, they call these aceritifs (not a typo). Here’s a link to their website: http://www.domaineacer.com

They produce a sparkling wine type (can’t really call it wine if there are no grapes, right?), two port-like drinks and they just started producing a dry white beverage. This really expanded my palate to something that I think is quite rare.

QOTD: I had a 2005 Lenz Moser Trockenbeerenauslese that blew me away.

P.S. DM me on twitter @pcarmich for more info on Domaine Acer.

QOTD: Haven’t had any good desert wines in ’09 yet. Still hoping to try my first Tojaki (sp?) at some point. Had some awesome Zin ports in ’08, one from Temecula Valley and a Zin port that tasted EXACTLY like german chocolate cake from Rombauer.

QOTD: I’d need to get to know Mott much, much better to answer that question.
I don’t think I’ve had any dessert wines this year. They smell great – especially the carmelly ones, but they really belong in a bread pudding or an apple dumpling sauce rather than in a bottle.

what do mott and dessert wines have in common? they are both difficult to rate because they are just so sweet and delicious. best was not exactly dessert, but the melsheimer ausleuse is awesome. also the whole pacific rim line is quite impressive.

I really appreciate Wine Library TV. Usually you get what you pay for on the Internet but WLTV is both entertaining and educational. Keep up the great work.

The Best dessert wine that I’ve had recently is Castello di Amorosa – Il Raggio Del Sole.

  • Crazy that you tasted the dessert wine from Totem. I had that at a little get together the night before Taste of Washington and the room was pretty split on that bottle. I was not a fan. It was tough because the winemaker was standing right there as I tasted it… oh well.

QOTD: Just got back from playing in a baseball tourny up in Victoria BC and had a little bottle of Jackson-Triggs late harvest sparkling reisling that was straight up delicious.

    Hay Gary V
I Love this wines and actually the best one i have had this year was a Viognier. Yalumba makes a hand picked Botrytis Viognier, Wrattonbully. mine was from 2006. I am Having trouble finding my all time favorite, Late harvest zins.

Question of the day: Is the a Valpolicella desert wine out there?
If so link it up to me and maybe do a show on them.

    Thanks,
    Mickey
