Last night I had a Pacific Rim Framboise served with chocolate cake at my Mom’s 80th birthday. It was wonderful!!

    And speaking of wonderful….Mott.

QOTD- Yalumba Museum Tawny Port (?) or something like that. Thick and syrupy goodness.
Good luck to you and Lizzie!

Love the show. The best dessert wine I have EVER had is the Don PX Gran Reserva 1979 (Bodegs Toro Albala).

I agree that Viognier makes a spectacular dessert wine, pretty yummy regular vino too!

QotD – Carl Ehrhard Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Auslese 2005 (375mL). Imported by The Tony Marchetti Co., available in several states. Rich honey flavors

Also, the Carl Ehrhard Rudesheimer Riesling Spatlese Feinherb 2005 blew my head off, with delicious ripe melon and peach intensity.

And Mott rules. He kills it, and films it…

Dessert wines are not high on my wine list, but I did have a tasty one this year. As I live about 30 min. away from Arrington Vineyard I had Arrington Vineyard’s Raspberry ’07 with a lemon tart. Delish!!! Next time you’re in Nashville you may want to make this stop and enjoy their wines and weekend Jazz.

QOTD: This year it is either the various Tokaji or the late harvest chianti (a white wine, sort of like a white port with an almond aftertaste) that we had on the Thunder Cruise. All time favorite was the 2000 Iniskillin Riesling Ice Wine that I opened in 2008.

I love good dessert wines, but it does seem harder to find occasions to open them.

Viognier cannot be a premiere dessert variety on its own because it is a grape that
naturally lacks acidity.. not like Riesling, or Chenin..

QOTD2: I can say wholeheartedly that without Mott, WineLIbraryTV would not be what it is today.

QOTD: I had a riesling with dessert in 2009, but I can’t remember what it was, partly because it was preceded by 3 other bottles. Long, long dinner.

BTW – liked the pace of the show today. Regarding the whole baby thing how come you didn’t have the Vayniacs guess the name of the newest Vaynerchuk?

Hey GV, just wanted to go on record and say that the baby is coming tonight, May 28th, right around midnight. Oh and it’s going to be a girl!

    Best wishes and good luck!

QOTD: I had a GREAT 1978 Sauterne at Bern’s last Saturday!

    Side QOTD: No

QOTD: I haven’t had one this year and Mott is the man. Gary, if you stop doing the show, there needs to be a Mott show to fill in the gap in my heart. Screw it, Mott should have his own show now.

  • QOTD: While not technically dessert “wine”, I had an awesome Canadian ice cider this past September. Mott is like Tapas – two seconds of awesome – always leaves you wanting more!

Side QOTD: Yes, I think I’ve even had one of his wines…

QOTD: Sadly, I’ve only had two dessert wines this year and they were both garbage. AND Mott is super awesome. He makes me smile every time he’s on camera and he clearly has a positive effect on Gary.

  • Jens

    2nd QOTD: Mott is hot!

1st QOTD: Haven’t had that many dessert wines this year as yet but the best most probably was a Pancelleria from Southern Italy.

Qotd: None. I’d rather have pie ala mode (berries, apples or peaches) for dessert. And yeah Mott is pretty great. Keep up the good work!

p.s. You gotta love a wine show that mentions the “Mendoza Line”.

My favorite Desert wine enjoyed thus far in 09 has to be the 2004 Château Guirard. A very, very close second (for 1/3 the price) is the 2003 Chateau Lamothe Guignard. I paired each Crème Brûlée. Yum!

  • “The Name is Dalton, Dalton Vaynerchuk” Had to write that, saw the report about PR/Social Media.

I like Late Harvest and sweet wines: El Divino, Sauternes, Late harvest Rieslings, Italian Vin Santo, Fragolino, etc. although I haven’t had Viognier sweets.
A very interesting show, nice pace. ! Mott Rules !

QOTD: El Divino, a Mexican sweet elixir that I recommend but only if you like viscosity and presence, otherwise many will dislike it.

    PS: recycling is good.

Yalumba make a great late harvest V. – for a heck of a price also (something like 14 bucks).

Often the “best wine” is made by the context, and on that front the best dessert wine I had this year was a Col D’Orcia moscadello, which I had after a meal in Montalcino! The wine was good and all, but it excelled because of the setting.

Keep it up Gary! I don’t like all this talk of retiring!
