line of the day -‘The French are the only people who have fought every war for the last 2000 years …and have lost them all.’

Guest very knows his stuff and is a legend in the wine world but his manner of speaking is slightly annoying. If he stuck to the facts and didn’t try to be a comedian I think I’d have enjoyed him a lot more.

  • Something will follow this “value” wine economy. I truly believe people like Daniel Schuster show, why starting to learn and know who grew the grapes, who made the wine and where the wine was made will become a factor in choosing wine.

As Daniel pointed you have to “enjoy the last glass as much as the first”

Does anyone know of a wine critics who tastes thru the whole bottle? How many get fooled by the initial 10 seconds?

For those who want to read more, Danny co authored a book too. “Canterbury Grapes and Wine 1840 – 2002”

This is a classic example of why memorable moments in wine are really a never ending treasure hunt. Enjoy them when they happen!!

Good job to both of you. — Thanks.

  • This is awesome, I was blown away by his Pinot Noir which I had for the first on the THUNDERCRUISE. For those of you that did not make it, Schusters wines were poured at the grand tasting. I can’t wait for part 2!

like this guy. wants to bring good wine and conversation to your table.

This episode reminds me why I visit tasting rooms as it allows me to hear great storytelling about the winemaking process. This episode is right up there with episode #43 with Santiago that I still keep returning to regularly as it turned m e on to his wines. I just got into a conversation with a Argentinian Phd student from Stanford about Santiago’s discovery of the art of winemaking during visits to Napa while also a student at Stanford.

Bring Santiago back as I remember that was a rare no spit episode and a classic.

As soon as I got comfortable with his accent (only took about one minute) I couldn’t stop listening- what a great character & great knowledge! Can’t wait for part 2!

(PS, Gary- your interviewing has gotten much better!)

That was probably the fastest half hour I’ve ever spent. The wonderful stories were enthralling. I do quite enjoy a good bit of history.

Amazing guy! And what an experience!!! I sooo much agree with his philosophy of wine, as he said – you’ve got to love the last glass of the bottle as the first one! The wine has to be ‘true’ and has to make you feel like more!
    Waiting for part II.

    Cheers from Barcelona,
    Agnieszka

    Gary,

You need to let your guests speak. You kept interrupting the stories you asked him to tell. Mr. Schuster is very interesting I would have liked to hear his story without you stomping all over him. He is very engaging and entertaining but you took away from it.

Gary, I am a long time Vaniac and have been with you since eps. 1, this could have been a classic episode.

Keep Crushing It and bringing the Thunder…

    John
