    GV,

This episode brought me back out of lurkerdom. Excellent guest, great episode! Think about having more foodies on the show. The peach recipe sounds awsome, definitely have to try it.

Loved the guest, great interview Gary, you let him go for it. Was laughing so much my wife thought I was watching a comedy site.
In terms of QOTD I can’t say I can tell wines made by women blind or even wines made by blind women. However on the last 3 fishing trips in the MaArlborough Sounds me and my buddies have taken wines made by women and I can recommend Sauvignons by Jules Taylor, Kathy Lynsky and Michelle Richardson, all delicious with blue cod and the local abalone called the “paua”.
Hope you enjoy your upcoming New Zealand trip.

QOTD: Apparently I can. All four of my wine clubs have female winemakers. Didn’t know that when I signed up, but wow. Good question.

And yes, classic 2 part series. Well done. Would like to get a bottle of his Pinot and see how it compares to the Sojourn and one of the single vineyard wines from Archery Summit. Nice new world face off there I’d think.

GV: Congratulations on acquiring your newest appellation… “Daddy”!!! It is the most profound and valuable name you will ever know. And, how about some Major Thunder to Lizzie for doing all the work?! All the best to you both.

BTW, if you’re planning on taking some time off, can Daniel sit in the Thunder Chair while you’re away???? Pleeeeeeeze??? Best guest ever!!!

What can I say but ‘wow’!!! I especially loved the part about women winemakers. What can I say, but we love balance in every part of our lives.

Enjoyed this 2 part episode almost as much as the Peter Mondavi episode.

qotd – I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Interesting though.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. She will bring you much joy.

Amazing show Gary, super cool guy that Daniel is.

You mentioned retasting wines that you previously loved and were disappointed. This has happened me a few times

Have you ever thought about doing a show of all the high scoring wines of the thunder show?

    just a thought.

    All the best, and congrats

WOW Gary!gratest show ever!! (might be slightly excited)

Firstly congrats on the big news with Misha!

I got to meet Daniel when I was in NZ in 2007. Was visiting some family Christchurch and couldn’t resist going to some wineries. We stumbled on Daniel Schuster Wines by chance! It was a Tuesday afternoon no other visitors and Daniel himself was manning the cellar door. Got to talk to him for over an hour and he was even more amazing in person than he was to watch today. Loved how he paints a picture about the time place and company with which each wine has to be consumed. My girlfriend and I have even had the late harvest riesling with breakfast on our anniversary! It was maybe the most amazing cellar door experience I’ve ever had!

    Great show!

F-ing AMAZING two-parter. Fantastically interesting guest, with charisma and insight “for days,” and these episodes never lost my complete “…attention” for a second. Solid.

QOTD: STELLAR question, and I can’t say that I’ve given this topic enough thought when blind tasting to have a personal verdict. However, I will definitely experiment with this concept of delineating between male and female “winemakers” and how their gender may play a part in the final expression of the wine in future tastings.

First of all, congratulations on the birth of your girl. (I actually just found out reading the comments above! I only watched half of the episode; I watch bits and parts on my train commute into Tokyo and this episode was the “and a half” of my typical “one and a half” episodes viewing.

Any guest who gives me some Keith Richards quotes to impress my guitar-playing boss with can’t be bad!

I’ve been in Japan for 15 years now and your kind of bantering is music to my ears, Gary. Keep it up! I first found out about WLTV when I first looked for podcasts on iTunes about 7 months ago. Been hooked ever since. Oh, yes …. I do like wine! Though not an expert, I hope to post a comment now and then.

  • Had a busy weekend and could not watch the second half until today.
Great finish to an excellent interview…colorful to say the least.

QOTD: no way is my palate refined enough to taste the difference, but I do know that there are some ladies making fantastic wine…some favorites of mine Chile’s Casa Lapostolle from the Casa to the Clos Apalta, the lush Turley Zinfandel, and the fine fine pinots of patrica Green Cellars.

Big congratulations to the Vaynerchuck clan on the new addition.
As you have mentioned G.V., this may impact the Thunder show…maybe it can have a positive effect. All of your tastings are right out of the bottle, with no time for decanting. Since you might be up several times a night for changing and feedings, maybe you should open a bottle before beddie-bye time, and do a quick flip cam tasting then and each time you get up.
Of course if Misha sleeps right through the night, she is a very good baby and the idea is a bust.
