Good show, good guest. I love the way GV says to the guy (who is German) -‘does your grandfather bust your chops?’ and is surprised when the guy doesn’t understand the question…..
Somehow I doubt whether ‘bust your chops’ is in the German/English phrase book.

An early comment, but I actually watched the episode before posting.

Personally, I don’t enjoy the show as much when the wine is not available for me to find/purchase/taste. Sometimes it’s not available (to me) because it’s too expensive…but worse is when it’s just not available at all.

    Won’t even touch the QOTD

Tooo long an episode. I would love to chug some Kabinet from the bottle on a hot summer day. Low alcohol, fruity and refreshing.
Some wine makers are sexy but not you.

Gary – how come the Wine Listing by Episode is 404’ing? That’s the SS Chris list of wines spreadsheet. It’s been missing for a few days now.

    Thanks. πŸ™‚

  • I like to hear about wines that are available. Wines that I have no chance of buying are a bit impractical. Interesting but only in an abstract way like reading tasting notes on ’70 Bordeaux. Any of our German compatriots on this list know this young man. His work ethic was certainly interesting.

  • GV, take the hint! We come here cuz we love you and your family and what you do here..but “Not Available” means “Not Interested.” I enjoy it most when you get excited about a wine that I can buy and enjoy too. i.e.: Gigondas…you introduced it, I loved it! i.e.: Douro…you intro’d, I enjoyed (often). Keep up the good work, but bring the thunder when we can participate with you.

  • Adam J

Wow, I am surprised to see some negative comments…I thought he (the guest) was great! The German wine episodes are always fun, not to mention I love German wine!
Rowland: Sorry man , gotta disagree. Clintons sparklers were pretty weak on my pallate…. as well as the whole Hudson Valley wine scene for that matter, again, only for MY pallate.
    QOTD: um…sure,
    THanks for the show!

Nice episode. I imagine the Fritz Haag wines will be available in the US. I bought them last year and plan to buy the 2008 vintage as well.

I personally don’t mind episodes about unavailable wines at all. I don’t tend to run out and buy the wines you have on the show, anyway. I actually find the most value in the segments where you talk about varietals, regions, vintages, etc. Much moreso than your tasting notes on specific wines. Just my opinion.

    QOTD – No, not really.

  • Christian

Regarding availability, the 2007 Klaus Meierer Riesling SpΓ€tlese is available at http://www.winex.com, $16.99 a bottle if I remember correctly, enjoy!
