line of the day – ‘tight, like when you jump into a cold pool’

Always love the flip cam episodes. This one gets a 90 just for the egg-white nuggett of information alone.

I agree with your assessment of the 04 Bordeauxs. Had the 04 Pontet Canet recently and it was great. After it decanted for literally a day!

Interesting show – you’re correct I would be pissed if I opened a $115 bottle and it didn’t “bring the thunder”!

QOTD – Tuscany – Brunello Di Montalcino!

  • Hey Gary

Thanks for the show. Question about the wine, over-priced? Surely over US$100 is a lot to ask for a wine that you think is 88-92pt and RP says 90pt>

QOTD: 2004 makes me think of good Coonawarra Cabernet and of one the few years recently when I have lived in Australia!

    Cheers

  • Geez I hate to say this…

Patriots 32-29 over Carolina pops into my head

….and of course the infamous “wardrobe malfunction” at halftime

  • Oklahoma Michael

ps. you were great on Fallon

I loved the shot of the Wine Lib’s cellar room in the background during the Fallon interview. Clever plug.

QOTD: very eventful year… I moved back to NY (from London) and my wife got pregnant with our first kid.

  • La Mission and Haut Brion are not related but are both Grand Quality, and they are expensive. You can fine both at the local stores but a bit more expensive.

The color is what I find fascinating in these wines ( I guess the egg whites have something to do with it ).

… so the best way to describe this wine would be: TIGHT !

QOTD: Hmm, strange question, I think about a project I finished that year, a restaurant.

Gary looks tired in this episode. You have some small bags under your eyes. Is it because you were up so late with Jimmy Fallon?

  • QOTD: Thats easy, I bought my first house 5 years ago today!

I like the one-wine-in-depth episode, not every time, but once in a while is great.

Fallon last night was fun, did you really give roker a bear hug?!!!!

good change of pace and interesting to choose LMHB which is a wine i just never get – as you mentioned very young vines to command the prices the wine does. for my money i’d rather buy Deuxièmes Crus.

QotD: ripe, approachable, yummy California Cabernet

Why you little . . . 2004!?! 2004!?! You had, just HAD to bring up 2004 didn’t ya’. The year my beloved Eagles fell to the Cheaters in the Super Bowl. Questionable year for Bordeaux, poop year for Eagle fans, good year for Brunello though I hear (haven’t had any yet).

Great show. Thanks for getting your nerd on. I find the 2004’s interesting only because I’ve had some 2005’s now that blew me away while the 04’s left me feeling they way you did. I hope they will improve in 6-10 years.

QOTD – 2004 means a BAD World Series for the Yankees!
