line of the day – ‘Big blackberry flavours exploding on my nose like a grenade’

Barnstorming episode featuring GV at his best. When he goes on about the nuances of different vintages his knowldege is scary. The visible wince when trying the last wine is classic Gary, and sticking the wooden box on his chair as an Oak Monster substitute made me laugh. A classic.

QOTD: #500 I was there and enjoyed watching you interact with Brandon and KenP. And you opened the pickle jar and shared!!!

  • Well, since I was the 1st comment yesterday….and that was the 1st 1st for me by the way, I thought I would be the last one today. Congradulations my man. 700 is a lot of shows. Maybe one day I will be a guest on one before the 1000th…. sooner would be cool. Don’t forget the cigar thing Homey!!!

QOTD: I love the one where the guy made the montage of you and at the end he said the pickles are in the mail. That was great!!! I like those the best.

Keep it going my man….. You are the best!!!!!!!!

    Love & Respect,

    Glen

700? Who’da thunk’ it? I must admit that I have drifted away from the whole WLTV scene over time but I still remember the “good old days” ;)like when you begged for my Joe Walton story.

QOTD: I have two favorite moments, probably mentioned in response to previous requests for favorite moments:
Ep 39 when you tasted the BV dessert wine and needed a glass of water, and a bit later on, after you started reading the comments when one of mine was read on the show, something about me objecting to your comment about the sheep leading the shepherd back when you were soliciting ideas for the next show. Oh,third favorite moment: when you acknowledged your sister for her teaching award and asked that the Vayniacs e-mail her. I did and she e-mailed back. A really nice exchange!

  • Congrats and a good choice for the episode. Enjoyed it. Makes me wonder about a couple of wines I am waiting to drink.

QOTD: #148, that’s how I found you and I have never laughed so hard learning about wine. Love the shows and look forward to seeing what you can drum up for 1000!

Ok seriously, it’s really episode 700 already? I feel like I was just watching #600! I love it when you go over the top in your reaction to the oak monster; those are the funniest times for me. I don’t know if there will ever come a day when I’ll be able to consider trying a $110 bottle of wine just to see if the oak is really that strong, so I’ll have to settle for you losing your mind.

QOTD: don’t know the number, but it was around September 2007 when you again went ape shit over oak and said “this literally is like eating the corner of my desk!” while you walked over to your desk and simulated chewing your desk. That’s the one that sold me on this wackadoodle show. Keep it real GV.

QOTD: I’ve only been with you for the last 100 episodes or so, but have been downloading archives to my phone and watching since I started, and honestly, my most memorable is only 8 episodes ago – #692. I’m a new father too, and the connection you have with yours is HILARIOUS.

Congrats on making it to 700 – can’t wait to watch the rest of them.

qotd: it’s tough to say all time, but my favorite episode since i’ve started watching daily is definitely the kosher episode with your dad. the argument about the don alphonso is so hilarious.

QOTD= episode #394 is the one that hooked me for good. I was pretty sure outside of Italy exactly fourteen people knew about Sagrantino di Montefalco….all I could think about the rest of the week was how little I really knew. Thanks for the education GV

What a journey Gary – thank you! Love the ‘roots’ episode for #700.

The 1994 Napa Cab reminds me of your definitive 2004 Bordeaux episode. You tasted the 04 Clos Les Lunelles Cotes de Castillon, rated 92 RP. You remarked, “…AAHHHHHHRRRRRGHHHHHH….the Oak Monster….he’s in the hizzy, and he’s bringing his 2×4 made of Twizzlers, and he’s smacking your face with it…if this was UFC, they are tapping me out, I’m done, I’m losing completely….just too much wood up in my grill-piece…I’m pissed with this…” Yeah, that was a seminal quote, and sure enough, I’ve found I don’t like the Oak Monstered out fruit bombs that much either, preferring instead the more balanced, subtle, wines that walk that fine line of old & new world.

QOTD: Definitely episodes with your Dad, your barrel sample 2005 bordeaux episodes, Jeffrey Davies, and your big announcement of becoming a father!

    Thanks for all you do!

  • Hi Gary, greetings from Ukraine)
I’m working as a sommelier for the last 5 years and I find your winelibrary tv very informative and positive!)
I was surprised to find out that a wine blog DOES exist and moreover you’ve done already 700 vids! that’s huge! My respect! Believe me or not I wanted to launch something similar here in Ukraine and make it both english and russian. But after I’ve found your website, I’ve realized that I’ll do only russian) It’s not easy to find fresh wine info here, especially on my native language. You’re really an inspiration. Keep on doing this great.
Your new fan from Ukraine, Alexey)
