line of the day – ‘Big blackberry flavours exploding on my nose like a grenade’

Barnstorming episode featuring GV at his best. When he goes on about the nuances of different vintages his knowldege is scary. The visible wince when trying the last wine is classic Gary, and sticking the wooden box on his chair as an Oak Monster substitute made me laugh. A classic.

first of all great job on making it to 700 episodes. Can’t wait to see more.

    QOTD-#226 Why?

    1. I am from Oregon and you loved Panther Creek as do I.
    2. Lazy friday and you were on the couch.
    3. You pronounced ORE-Gun correct.
    4. You stated that Shea creates the best Pinot in the world, as it does.
    5. “KICK ASS WINE” how often do you say that.
    6. Roasted Marshmallows who wouldn’t like that
    7. WAARRRRIOOORRRSSSSSS
    8. I am eating skittles as I watch 226 again….
    9. Very animated in this video, which rocks

I started to watch after you were on Weekend edition on April 28, 2007 with another one of my favs. Scott Simon.

Thanks for great entertainment, good laughs, good books, and always great wine. The pallet is still in training.

Loved your dad Sasha, what a character! Also enjoyed the Daniel Schuster episodes. He was quite the storyteller, and he seems like a fun guy to sit and enjoy a glass of wine with….oh! you did that didn’t you

Great show Gary! I really liked the look at the 20+ year old wine. I have tried a few older wines that were past their prime and my feeling is that I prefer to drink them a little young than to wait too long. I just don’t enjoy the flavor profile of a wine even a little past it’s prime.

QOTD: I really enjoy the “geeky” shows that contain a lot of information but I understand that you are addressing a very diverse audience so they all can’t be too technical. I also really like the blind tasting shows. No single favorite show.

  • I didn’t even taste the last wine and all I can taste is oak now. πŸ™‚ Love the passion as usual.

QOTD – Episode #660 – Very cool to see the Great One and you hanging out.

Honorable Mentions – Episode #182 – Made me laugh my ass off, thinking this guy is insane. And of course Episode #690 because my bro and I were talking wine and hockey with you. Some good old Barry Beck action. πŸ™‚

Good episode. 700 – that’s unbelieveable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for thrilling us all day after day with your knowledge and humor.

QOTD: 148. Stereotypical? Perhaps, but I would be lying if I claimed my favorite to be anything else. Can we expect a “How to get your wine pal trained II”? Keeping my fingers crossed.

One of the thoughts I came away with on this episode: how did you get that cut on your finger visible when you show us the cork on the first wine? Oh, the questions that WLTV brings to mind.

  • Congrats on hitting number 700 Gary. My fav episodes are the ones done on the Thunder Cruise. In Second place would be the one you did at the Cleveland Browns Stadium because it was the day after I met you in person, LaLaLori was there streaming on ustream and lastly because we all had Lunch afterward. Keep on crushing it, hope to see you in Ohio sometime soon.

  • Congrats on hitting #700. I’ve been there since ep. 1, and I’ve loved every minute of the ride.

Thanks, as always, for being real and calling things like you see it. I just had a conversation with someone the other day about the fascination by some vintners to lean so heavily on oak.

QOTD: There are SO many episodes that I love, but I’d have to say ep. 148 is my favorite. It’s probably the episode that I’ve shared most with other people.

  • Hmmm, off the top of my head:

    Jancis Robinson
    Joe G’s appearance
The Sake Show was pretty good.
The one where you ate dirt.

but all topped by the one I was at at WL πŸ™‚

Episode 148! ItΒ΄s weird Β΄cause there was no wine on it, but it was different. But honestly any classic episode. Not so much those outside made like in a hotel or something like that, but maybe the one on the fair, market or whatever, when you smell flowers and stuff, or was it on your site?? Anyway the show is amazing! Congrast from Argentina!!

There have been quite a few eps like I mentioned.

For me, it was the Ep. where you had “the surprise pullout” of the “Gallo Wine Jug”. Besides relevance to Gallo Jugs, I busted out laughing and you brought me out of the shadows to comment.

Also rans, liked Ep#4 the first one I watched which made me watch steady at the time.

    Like Rajiv mentioned, sock tasting.

The one you froze your butt off outside your store in winter snow.

The “mission impossible” one too. That’s when I realized you guys were really nuts over there.
