lines of the day – ‘I just used the word ‘play’ 9 times in the last five minutes.’, ‘nuts in my mouth are very exciting, yeah I said it’, and ‘It’s like someone took Pinnochio and stuck him up my nose.’

Phenomenal episode as these blind tastings always are. Loved it, especially the fact that the 96 point Parker wine was scored 68 points by our man. Also featured the most ill-informed, ridiculous, downright stupid comment ever read out by GV. Whoever sent that piece of rubbish in should be ashamed of themselves.

    Hi G.V.

The most planted grape variety for wine is the white Spanish grape Airen. BUT the table grape variety Thomson Seedless/Sultana is sometimes mentioned as the most planted variety in the world not just as well recorded as Airen due to large plantings in eastern europe and other places around the globe.

  • That was plenty of Chardonnay… I usally stay away from the aged oaky stuff but so many people like it. Haven’t had it for some time now.

    Q1: favorite number is 1971.

QOTD: to indulge Gary Vee, we had a “La Chapelle de Bages” 2002 Pauillac , it was phenomenal… if I had to score it I would give it a 95, I’m easily pleased.

PS: why would you read such a harsh blunt comment, seems to me there were so many cool and insightful Friday comments…?!

WOW. Haven’t seen the whole show yet, just felt I had to say SOMETHING about that ridiculously racist and inappropriate comment you read out. Seriously, sometimes you have to let comments just slide, some opinions are not worth worrying about. It is SO CLEAR to me that that person’s comment was just based on his own preposterous, ignorant stereotypes, and that he just wanted to make you fit into the only typecast his fossilized brain is willing to accept.

He WAS NOT talking about you, Gary, he was personifying his PREJUDICE!

Seriously, I am FUMING right now. Screw that guy; do your thing!

Great idea for a show – good to see lots of different styles and countries in a blind tasting.

    QOTD1 – 25
QOTD2 – La Monacesca 2007 Verdicchio di Matelica. Way sweeter than I was expecting, lots of peach flavour, 87.

Thought it was ironic that the guy who criticized you as being aggressive, can’t see how aggressive he was in his comments. Made me mad too. Stop watching if you don’t like Gary’s style. There are plenty of us who LOVE his “drunken passionate” episodes.

    Hi Gary

Love the show as always. Really, REALLY glad to see South Africa at / near the top again, and fantastic to see the new world representing.

FYI – Hemel-en-Aarde means Heaven and Earth, it’s a valley in or near Hermanus in the western cape of South Africa, about 90 miles from Cape Town. Great place to take a holiday actually, there is a beautiful lagoon there but I digress.

QOTD – favourite number is Seven, and this weekend I drank:
    1. Croix-de-Barbes Lalande-de-Pomerol 2007. I’d say 82 pts.

    2. Penfolds Coonawarra Shiraz 2003 (AUS), decanted for 5 hours. I’ll give it 91+ pts.

    3. Kleine Zalze Barrel fermented Chenin Blanc, 2008 (ZA). I’d give it 90 pts.

    Gee Vee,

Great episode … I love the blind tasting episodes!!! I also think one blind tasting episode per week would be cool.

AOTD#1: 89 (Otis Taylor: KC Chiefs)

AOTD#2: 2007 Banfi Chianti Classico also ended up an 89. (the more I drank the better it got).

PS – Ignore the negativity and it will go away. In other words “F*CK HIM”. Unless you’re trying to generate comments which seems to have worked.

Why pander to that jerk who was talking about Russian genetics?? Don’t apologize to that guy! You are who you are and it’s great and sure he has the right to not enjoy your show but you don’t need to “tone it down” for ANYONE!

As always, LOVE the blind tastings! Don’t give a second thought to the classless comment you read. Keep doing what you’re doing…..that’s what got you where you are today.

    Gary,

Awesome show! LOVE the brown bag episodes!

QOTD: Drank some truly nasty merlot at a wedding this weekend. 59pts of disgusting. Disappointing given the wedding was totally over the top extravagant. The family easily spent 125K. Why must wedding wine suck?????

BUT….I was saved when I got home the next day and had 2007 Casa de Vila Verde – Vinho Verde. I am sold on the value of Portugese wine. This bottle was like $9 and was flat out delicious! I give it 90pts. To quote my wife who only took one sip (pregnant), “Give me this stuff when you want to get me into bed!”

Gary, I know everyone has their own palate, but your score on the Mount Eden was outrageous. When Parker, Spectator, and Tanzer all rate that wine 90 points or higher, and you rank it a mere 69 points, I think there’s something fishy goin’ on. I’ve had that wine for the past three or four vintages and I think it’s one of the better California Chardonnays on the market. I think either your palate was just off yesterday, or there’s a conspiracy going on. 69 points?!?! C’mon Gary, you’re gonna start to lose some fans with crap like this…

  • Blind tasting, while potentially embarrassing, is the fairest way to taste wine. And I’m impressed that you were able to read that misanthropist’s comment without laughing. I personally would have called his mom and told her what her son has become.

    Side Question: 13 (birthdate)

QOTD: 1999 Atreus Brunello di Montalcino. 90+
