lines of the day – ‘I just used the word ‘play’ 9 times in the last five minutes.’, ‘nuts in my mouth are very exciting, yeah I said it’, and ‘It’s like someone took Pinnochio and stuck him up my nose.’

Phenomenal episode as these blind tastings always are. Loved it, especially the fact that the 96 point Parker wine was scored 68 points by our man. Also featured the most ill-informed, ridiculous, downright stupid comment ever read out by GV. Whoever sent that piece of rubbish in should be ashamed of themselves.

My favorite number is 7…but I was born on the 7th, so I have a good reason.

Over the weekend I opened at 2002 Jean Luc Columbo Terres Brulees Cornas. Not as exciting as some of the Cornas’ I’ve had lately, and it showed MUCH better on the 2nd day. 87pts, but a pass at $39.

More blind tastings….you should do Syrah next.

Gary – DO NOT – I repeat – DO NOT apologize for being yourself! I love your passion, I love your ability to inspire it in others, and I love your humility. But for God’s sake (not to be confused with God’s personal stash of a certain alcohol laden rice beverage – loved that show!) do not apologize.

Keep it up. As an 21 year navy vet, submariners make the “thunder below!” to ensure that you can keep bringing the thunder above.

    Rich Higgins
Knoxville, TN – where you can not yet ship wine!!! dammit.

  • QOTD: A good weekend for answering that question! In celebration of a new job we opened:

2007 Mollydooker “Two Left Feet” – the most concentrated wine I have ever had, I haven’t had that many Aussie wines and this wasn’t my favorite style, but it was well made and a lot of fun – 90pts.

2006 Penner-Ash Pinot Noir Carabella Vineyard – This may be the best pinot I have ever had! very much a product of the 2006 vintage, but more complex – tobacco and cherries! 93+ pts

Great to see Argentina & SA on #1 and #2. Did you ever had a German Chardonnay? If not, you are missing something really special!

We had a 2005 Marchesi Mazzei Serrata di Belguardo Maremma Toscana IGT and I would score the Sangiovese/Alicante blend a 90! Very good stuff for 11?!

Great show. I enjoyed watching it and only realizing at the end that it was almost 40 minutes long. You were very engaging and informative.

QOTD: no favorite number, Bandit Cabernet Sauvignon in the tetra pack – 82 ($4).

  • Craig Hamlet

Like I said last week, I love the blind tastings. Great show. Don’t fret about the score differences, I trust your judgement more anyway. I have no fave #, but I did drink a bottle of Clos du Val 05 Cab this weekend. It was much earthier than I expected, which I liked, but it also had good fruit. I score it 87+

Fun episode. If anyone is making a highlight reel, be sure to include 18:14-18:23 …haha

Favorite number: 23 and not because of Jordan or any other sportsperson.

QOTD: only beer this past weekend, sorry.

  • Kirk (slave2thevine)

QOTD: What wine did I have this weekend? 2004 Chehalem Reserve Pinot Noir and I gave it a 90. It needs more time sideways. As for my answer I was told at a trade show back in May that Airen was the most planted grape in the world…but I’m not sure. whatever the case…it wasn’t google.

Enjoyed the blind tasting. It’s always fun to watch you sweat a little?seriously, though, I can’t imagine very many other professional wine folks going out on that particular limb the way you do. More, please.

    QOTD:
    1) Depending on my mood, either pi (3.14159…) or e (2.71828…). Hey, you asked.
    2) Emiliana Vineyards Natura Carmenere Valle Colchagua 2007. $13 and solid if not mind-bogglingly fantastic. 88 points on my (wait for it) wooden palate.

  • Craig

Awesome show Gary, really enjoy the blind tasting’s.

“This kind of almond, hazelnuts, nuts in my mouth are very exciting…ya I said it!” Hilarious GV.

Most widely planted grape? Is it Grenache?

    QOTD #1 – 93
QOTD #2 – 2001 La Torraccia di Presura Arcante IGT Rosso – inspired from your Super Tuscan Tasting – Scored 92

    1. – HAPPY B-DAY LIZ! If she’s married, then we can’t say Lizzy V., as that would be your wife!

    2. – You can’t, and need not say it; we can say it for you… Hey Didec: Go take a long walk off a short pier. You’re the one who sounds all psycho – analitical and pedantic….As if… talk about agression… Winos who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw bottles.

Gary, yer Jerzy love and style rules the roost. Keep up the great work, friend.

    3. – By now, much of the Vaynernation knows of the Spanish Arien. But I’d like to add that, most planted grape may vary every few years, per trends and demands. When I began in the wine industry around 20 years ago, Rkatsiteli (Russian grape!!) was guessed to have had the greatest worldwide plantings….
