lines of the day – ‘I just used the word ‘play’ 9 times in the last five minutes.’, ‘nuts in my mouth are very exciting, yeah I said it’, and ‘It’s like someone took Pinnochio and stuck him up my nose.’

Phenomenal episode as these blind tastings always are. Loved it, especially the fact that the 96 point Parker wine was scored 68 points by our man. Also featured the most ill-informed, ridiculous, downright stupid comment ever read out by GV. Whoever sent that piece of rubbish in should be ashamed of themselves.

QOTD #1: 17..my b’day which is friday and the big 45!! OUCH!!!!!
QOTD#2: Palomina Barbera (Santa Barbara) 2006-having not had this before, a glass was poured at the restaurant-smelled and tasted pruny and stewy-no way this could be a cool climate barbera-sent it back and asked them to open a new bottle-now that’s more like it-nice fruit, some herbs i couldnt pinpoint, went nice with the pork-87.

The night before opened a 95 L’Evangile for my friend’s b-day. Decanted only about 30 minutes. No mistaking the nose for Bordeaux. No signs of age on the color-deep ruby. Beautiful Pomerol i think is still a bit young. Tannins were tart, almost sour cherry. I love Bordeaux, for me a 92….curious if this will improve or not….if you are not a bordeaux fan than this is not for you. Interestingly I think Parker scored it similarly….

  • Great show Gary. The blind tastings are still my favorite shows and I love it when you disagree with major critics.

QOTD: Had a few last weekend but my favorite was a 2006 Noggle Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc from Lake County. As a proud Californian I hate to admit that Cali Sauv Blancs have been on my s**t list for some time now (along with Cali Chards), but this one really gave me hope. 91 points if I was going to rate it.

Favorite number: 12…which also happens to be the number of bottles in a case.

More brown bags!! But a suggestion: when you are revealing the wines in the end, please include a few words that you used to describe them as you give out their scores. “wine #2” doesn’t register with me when you were tasting, but saying “too light, like lemon water and not much else” would immediately tell me which wine you’re talking about and help me put scores to descriptions, etc.

QOTD 1: 9, Adam Graves’ number for the Rangers.
QOTD 2: Giuseppe Lonardi Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso. 88, lacking a little at the finish, but a fascinating cherry-cream play (yes, I can say play, you could not).

Also, please ignore that person who left the anti-Russian “I art holier than thou” comment. If he or she doesn’t like you, I’m sure they know where to find the off button on their screen. I adore your show because of your “drunken enthusiasm” and I just want you to do the show from your heart. There is zero doubt in my mind that you are, keep it up. After all, you’re changing the wine world whether they like it or NOT.

Ironically,I had a 2006 Alto Moncayo Veraton Garnacha and I would rate it a 91, an explosive mouthful of dark fruit, chocolate, pepper with a nice smoky sweet ripe cherry finish. It was absolutely delicious!
Ohh and my favorite # is 13

Grenache, though I’m obviously not first. I said it out loud during the episode. My wife didn’t believe me, so I bet her a week of laundry duty. Looks like I’m getting me some clean undies!!!

QOTD 1: I was born at 3:33 pm, so I guess my favorite number is 3. Odd and prime, just like me…

QOTD 2: Marnier Lapostolle Sancerre. Pretty mediocre – 82 points. I did a sh*t job of food pairing though, so it’s probably an 85+ point wine.

On a more serious note, I was really disappointed by the “Russian” comments. It got me down from the beginning of this episode. You have a great passion for what you do, and yes, you’re loud, but you’ve given thousands of Vayniacs the confidence to trust their “Pals” and drink what they like, not what they’re told to like. I’ve seen thousands of other videos about wine and wine tastings, but you drop knowledge in a totally different way. You empower people to say “I like this” or “I don’t like this”. That’s huge. Thank you. And f* the jerk who thinks you’re a loudmouth Russian. I think you’re a loudmouth Belarusian New Jersey-ite who wants all of us to drink whatever the heck we like.

    Thank you…

  • Well, first of all I have to say you have some pair coming on my computer screen and yelling and screaming welcome to wine library tv at me in your arrogant derogatory manner. How obsured !!! Then to go so far as to cover the bottles with bags and write numbers on them in your illegible handwrinting is just horrific to say the least. I can’t even tell what numbers they are. Where did you learn how to spell?? And those custom made shirts you wear have to go. They don’t even fit you.

Then above all to rate a parker ratesd wine 30 points below is totally unconsionable. I can see maybe 28-29 points below, but 30? Come on!!

Besides that, I loved the show. But hey, I’m just an Polish Italian from Jersey who’s crazy about wine….. what do I know?

    😉

QOTD: Pisoni Estate 2004 I give it an 68…but again, what do I know.

    PS. Happy 30th Birthday Liz..!!!!

The Vaynernation & your family (I’m sure) embraces you & enjoys you just as you are: unwise to change who you are because of four sentences thrown out by an annonymous voice. Much wiser to say, “I’m sorry you feel that way”, and move on–I’m sure your mom & dad gave you a version of this advice as you were growing up…

QOTD: Haley’s Mill 2005 Cab, 95, maybe 97–absolutely loved the creamy finish & have you checked the prices?! Talk about a bargain that doesn’t taste like one!!

Great show. Love the blind tastings and it’s great to see chard getting some attention again.

BTW, if that is your idea of whiz color, drink more water.

    Gary,

One of the best episodes in *llllllllllonnnnnnggggg* time. Reminds me of why I was such a fan – and so disheartened until very recently.

I think WLTV jumped the shark with “Crush It” as it became more about GV rather than about wine.

However, I feel that Gary has had an epiphany and is trying to jump the shark back.

These blind tastings are my favourite episodes and this has been my favourite blind tasting episode.

QOTD 1: 7 or 17 (my daughter’s football (i.e. soccer for the Philistines)

QOTD 2: Many wines this weekend, but the highest rated was the 07 Seghesio Sonoma County which I rated 90.

Gary, keep up the good work and you will make this apostate a believer again.

On the last comment your read – less Russian? What exactly does that even mean? I think that comment sounded closed minded and as a complete non-Russian, I am offended. That guy has a right to saying whatever he wants, but his critique of you loses all of its credibility when it turns toward stereotype and prejudice.

    QOTD – no favorite number

QOTD2 – didn’t have any wine over the weekend, actually. drank a lot of beer on saturday (bachelor party) and took it easy sunday… I give the Bud Light cans 74 points. Not much taste, but watery and refreshing goodness nonetheless…

Contrary Mary says: Usually applaud when you read negative posts, not this time. Didic is spewing racist stereotypes. Maybe that’s his right but when you give that bigotry air time you are spreading it. Gary V, your fair share of genes comes from Mr. Sasha and though I don’t personally know him, he seems like a very kind gentleman. Shame on you.

Give us more paper bag eps and be sure to put one over the head of Didic (or DEE DICK as NY Pete so perfectly puts it).
