  • Wow you’re on fire today Gary, great show!

You’ll be happy to hear that is the old St. Francis Pagani label, they recently redesigned it. Its MUCH better now.

I was glad you reviewed the new Neyers, I went out and bought the 05 after you gave it such a great review last year. I wanted to see if you and I had the same kind of pallet, and I can say we do alright, at least on Zins. That wine was amazing. Too bad the 06 wasn’t quite up to par.

QOYD: T-Vine, Brown Vineyard 05. Best Zin I’ve ever had. Also Valdez makes an amazing Zin, way to hot on the alcohol, but still pretty amazing.

Great to have U back. That exiting line was classic. BTW you forgot the
sniffy sniff on the first wine then said the second wine smelled better
than the first. The WLTV conspiracy theorists are taking notes.

QOTD: Not a high roller on my zins – 20 “bones” and below is my set. For
me its the 2005 Roshambo or the 2005 Dashe Dry Creek Valley. Dry
Creek is where it’s at. WOSRSE? – Take your pick of any host of
Cali Zin $12 cutesy named (you know who you are) alcohol bombs
that taste like rubbung alcohol mixed with fruit juice.

Great show. The good Zins don’t make it to Europe. About time to make Californian wine in California. Not Eurofornian and definitely nor Parkerfornian. Regionality equals Quality.

  • Biznas

you forgot to actually sniffy sniff the Porter Bass. I think you need to try it again since you are the one that tells us that sniffing the wine is almost as/more important than tasting.
Come on Gary you need to bring your A game to the thunder show!

JK JK Love the show and you always bring the thunder, honest mistake.

  • Dr T in NC

QOTD Can’t say I have any fav Zins — I’d prefer Primitivo or Petit Sirah in situations where most people would choose a Zin. Still hoping for a Plavac Mali show!

Great show Gary…I already miss being there, working with everyone. Can’t personally answer the QOTD but my sister is a huge fan of the Rosenblum Zinfandel Carla’s Reserve. Hope everything is going well!

good show gary. haha, you didn’t sniffy sniff the first wine, then on the second wine, you said it had a better nose. goof. love the rant at the end. in regards to one of the comments you read about not enjoying the guests, i somewhat agree. i really enjoy the winemaker guests like daniel schuster and Hendrik Thoma. they are great, informative, and coupled with your knowledge, bring a lot to the show. the other guys, however, who don’t really know much, are pretty boring to watch, and not very informative. most zins i’ve had so far, are too oaky and peppery for me. i haven’t given enough of them a try, however, so i can’t really say for sure. i’ll get on it. don’t get mad at me. i’m off to the store now!

QOTD: Favorite Zins: Chiarello Giana, Brown Family, Latcham and “The Pines 1852” (Oregon) Least Favorite–can’t remember the name, but you had him on as a guest in the earlier days of WLTV. He had red, curly hair and glasses and had some Cal-Ital blends(bad Sangio)I tasted one bottle of Zin and enjoyed it–was very Port-like. Then ordered a bottle from another vintage and it tasted liked cooked prunes mixed with grape Kool-Aid. Yuk!

  • QOTD from me to Gary. Would love to see a show on some value bubbles, cremant from alsace, limoux, bourgogne, when do you think you will tape it?

Only had a few zins. Liked Ridge and Seghesio in the past. My palate needs expanding.

  • QOTD: Favorites hmmmm Raphanelli -Outpost makes a nice one too
Least favorites most everything produced in the last several years- most winemakers have cooked the pepper spicy factor out of the wine in favor of the Jammy – yum factor-

I probably will like the Neyers as it sounds balanced

  • qotd: gravity hills tumbling tractor zin rocked – one of my first wl episodes ever, a thanksgiving rec. that’s what got me hooked on the show!

QOTD: Most Favorite: Don’t exactly remember the year (sometime in the 70’s) but I was going to a wine tasting that a friend of a friend was having and I knew that if Two-buck-Chuck was being made then that a lot of these people would have been fans. Soooo…I didn’t want to waste one of my better bottles. In my cellar I found a ten year old Louis Martini zin that someone had given me and that I had kind of lost in the cellar. I thought, “great!” I’ll get rid of this and still look cool bringing a 10 year old bottle of wine. Long story short it was amazing! I spent the tasting party planted right next to that bottle 🙂 Moral: Don’t assume.

Least Favorite: 1985 Shenandoah Amador County

So, how did that 2nd Zin’s nose compare to the 1st? I’ve still got some of the ’05 Neyers waiting in the wings. Seems like the ’06 is just liiiiitle bit off from last years.

QOTD: No question the ’07 Seghesio (sp) Family Vinyard tops my list. I was very apprehensive when it received the 10 spot on WS list last year…until I tried it. And for around 20 bones? A killer, killer deal for a killer, killer wine. V Sattui makes some good zins, too.
