So, how did that 2nd Zin’s nose compare to the 1st? I’ve still got some of the ’05 Neyers waiting in the wings. Seems like the ’06 is just liiiiitle bit off from last years.

QOTD: No question the ’07 Seghesio (sp) Family Vinyard tops my list. I was very apprehensive when it received the 10 spot on WS list last year…until I tried it. And for around 20 bones? A killer, killer deal for a killer, killer wine. V Sattui makes some good zins, too.

Hey, Gary! I changed my mind about leaving a comment. As for Zifandels I really haven’t tasted many to be able to tell you whats my favorite. Great show! Your show enlightens us and gives us knowledge about wine. I hate the cheap wine that tastes literally like puke. It’s cheap and not good. I have very close relatives that make wine. If I could get their recipes, ideas, etc. I will open a winery; I would LOVE to! It’s a dream. Keeping my relative personal and confidential as to their idenity, but it would absolutely be phenomenal.
Your very amp’d up today; I know how it is being away and coming back.
Zinfandels (I need to live a little more)

  • DavidN

    Fun show–well done…
Favorite zins…Ridge 71 Geyserville, Ridge 2004 Pagani Vineyard–a more balanced effort, lots of alicante Bouschet.

Favoites are A. Raffanelli, Martinelli and Battaglini. The first is refined and elegant, The second is a hedonistic fruit bomb and the third an honest earthy unfiltered efort

Great show and nice manual zoomy zoom! 🙂 Glad to see you back. I hope you’re ok Mott, sounds like Gary is bringing home some airplane illnesses home for you.

QOTD: I couldn’t stomach Zins when I first started drinking wine. Even though I can get into them now, I haven’t had very many, so sorry no favs or least favs off hand. I will make that my mission for the next time I pick up wine to get a couple of bottles to keep expanding my palate.

Who doesn’t have a Cork’d account yet? If so, why not? If it’s a feature that is missing, then run it by Gary. I’m sure he’d love to hear it! I just looked at my Cork’d journal and now remember that I did at least like the Rosenblum Zinfandel Cuvee XXX.

Great Episode. I really enjoy an excellent zinfandel, and loathe a bad one.
My favorites— Lamborn Family 1999 Solar Factor from the top of Howell Mountain. Least favorite is something referred to as white zinfandel. I usually tell people its not real wine, although I know it go’s thru the process. Second favorite I don’t remember the name, but it was an excellent 1978 late harvest Napa Zinfandel— I drank it around 1981 and still remember its deep red color, intense, spicy, fruity peppery flavor.

Love the zins when at tastings, but never seems like I buy or drink them.

QOTD: Favorite would be Sineann 06 Old Vine and nothing sticks out as the least favorite, most are at least enjoyable.

Nice Job today, Gary. I’m a long time watcher, first time commenter. I must must say, Gary, I was almost “Vaynered” out with you not having a show on Thursday and Friday. I have been watching since the early fall of 2008 and actually came across your show quite by accident and have been hooked ever since.

A little piece of advice, Gary: Don’t let the opinion of a few viewers get you down. I think you’re doing a great job.

QOTD: I have had only had one Zinfandel so far — a 2006 Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel. While it was not outstanding, it did have some pretty good fruit and was a decent wine in my book.

qotd- I’ve had the 05′ Neyers – Very good. A few years back I remember (looking at old notes) really enjoying 02′ Trentadue Dry Creek Valley la Storia. I’ll have to try it again.. It’s funny to look back on old notes and see how much my palette has changed. As far as the worst? hmmm.. I really can recall right now.

  • Savoy

Gary, I know what you can Zoom in on whenever the Oak Monster makes an apperance. Have an “Oak Monster Action Figure” made, and keep it on the table to zoom in on, whenever he makes an apperance! If there was an Oak Monster action figure modeled after how the Oak Monster looks on the T-shirt, I would SO buy it in a Second!!!!
    Just saying.

Qotd: I have yet to try any Zinfandels other than a ‘few’ White Zinfandels… And most of those ate just, “Eh”, to me. But that’s just me. [Attempting to keep an openmind about White Zins and ignore all the bad press I hear about them, but it’s hard, lol].

    Love the show!

Hey, Gotsha- I didn’t think Gary’s shirt was all that bad today- it was on, it was buttoned, what more do you want?! 😉

QOTD: No standouts either way, I just don’t drink enough Zins… time to remedy that, I guess

Great high energy show, Gary! Thanks for taking good care of Mott. You’re right, we do worry about him!

QOTD: Fav-o-matic Just about any Zin or Zin blend from Ridge, possibly Angeli Cuvee from Marietta; least Fav – Rosenblum

Hey GV – why did you stop giving shout outs to the CKC?

  • Love the Zin shows GV. Zins EtOH can be integrated just fine and doesn’t always have to be hot.

QOTD: Carlisle Zin is pretty good but I don’t know if I can say the best I’ve ever had.

    Favorite Zins: Seghesio
    Ridge (sometimes !)
    Sobon
    Courtney Benham
You show is a bit outrageous but always interesting and informative.

Long-time lurker, I was forced mentally to chime in when you didn’t sniffy sniff the first wine, then proceeded to comment on the differences in noses between the second wine and the first. It felt like I was hallucinating or something. I make most of the wine that I drink, and I figure It’s just a matter of time before you start exploring the home winemaking avenue. Any thoughts on this matter?

QOTD – Love Zins from Paso Robles – Tobin James (Fat Boy), Peachy Canyon, Dover Canyon (Cujo) and Opolo are some of the best.
Was confused by the chalk board message today. What has Jersey one up on Cali?

Haven’t posted a comment in a while it seems, but I’m still around.

QOTD: I’ve only had a hand few of zinfandels actually, and none of them seem to stand out in my memory on either end of the spectrum.
