lines of the day – ‘point to that Supernerd over there’ and ‘It’s like when you don’t go to clubs anymore and you go to lounges’

Would’ve scored much higher but for the poor sound quality of the guest. She’s either got a very, very small voice or there was something wrong wih her Mic. Mott tried to step in and help but didn’t work. Shame. The bar looks like a great place to go…one day perhaps.

  • So, this episode is epic. Germany represented very well by “the queen” Marlies Dumbsky and some not too bad Wines. The Bar was a difficult place and noisy as hell, but thats ok – keeping it real.

    Greetz from Germany

    Very pretty show!

Unfortunately, we could barely here the Queen speak. (Luckily she was nice to watch).

I enjoy reislings, mainly the Alsace region.

    Keep up the nice work!

Love the Wine Nerd chicks. Certainly a good contrast to Katie Joel.

QOTD:Don’t know enough have an opinion, sorry.

  • sigh…3 unavailable wines…1 unavailable queen…and some of the worst audio ever.

QOTD: I like rieslings. Would have been nice to hear this beauty talk about them.

MOTT…I’m going to come and give you some production lessons. (no charge, but make there there’s plenty of good wine around) 😉

  • I love German riesling. I am looking for a recommendation on an 07 that will go the distance in the cellar, any help?

QOTD: I would drink crude oil if the Wine Queen poured it for me!

  • Bring back the queen! But turn her mike on next time.

Liked the show, even though I could only hear Gary.

  • Good take on Rieslings, from trocken to auslese.

QOTD: I like Riesling due to the fact you can store it. Old Riesling are marvelous with their petroleum smell and fruit taste. Often smooooooth both at front and back end. Great seafood or just social wine.

Everything has been mentioned before.. from the cute to the horrible sound part.
The soundlevel of her mic might have been ok after the adjustement; if it werent for you, Gary, horning in the mic like an elephant on a rampage 😀

QOTD: I like the wines from the region, incl Austria. But so far Ive more enjoyed gruner veltliner wines.. havent found rieslings as dry as some Austrian gruners yet. And yes Im confirmation most Europeans vastly prefer dry over sweet wines.. except for a percentage of women 😉

sweet episode. good to see some old riesling being drunk. is the queen looking for a king? i’m up for the job. the past few german wine episodes have made me extra thankfull for being of german decent. where’s the willi schaefer?

qotd: german wines rule, you might match them, but you can’t beat them.

  • Scruff

QOTD: Love the Rheingau region… Great place to visit and easy to get to too (right next to Frankfurt). Nahe is also good too.

If I have to pick my favourite whites, it would be bone dry Reislings and the Rhone varietals.

Please, I beg of you, stay out of noisy locations when you tape. (Lavs are great, but if you insist on going to places like wine bars, invest in a noise-canceling mic instead.) Even using headphones with the volume up too high for comfort, I couldn’t hear most of what was said, especially by your lovely and (presumably) knowledgeable guest.

On the other hand, who could have predicted that Mott can shoot handheld, avoid staff, survive steam and heat, and taste wine at the same time? I’m impressed!

QOTD: What German wines I’ve had, mostly Rieslings, have been good to very good, but a little pricey for me. (I’m a cheapskate, I admit it.)

OK finished the episode and good one overall – as usual. got used to the audio… queenie really know her reislings. she caught your miss on the walnut play.

Drinking with royalty. Not too shabby, GV.

QOTD: I’m starting to get into dryer Riesling lately, as my cravings for acid seem unstoppable. I had a Riesling from the late 1990s recently and the complexity blew my mind. I’m on board. As for German wines as a whole, I’ve had some great Pinot Noir as well, and wish there was more Pinot Noir at affordable price points here in the US cuz I KNOW the Germans are making the stuff…

Very good show except for the fact that it was hard to hear the Queen
(her mic was way too low).

QOTD: I’m in that 3% category of Riesling nerds. Big German riesling
fan. Prefer Nahe, particulary Donnhoff wines which are the bomb.
    (See Hendrik and episode #605)

  • German Riesling is what got me into white wine; now I drink more white than red. I love it, and think more people need to take it seriously. Queen – you’re incredible, and your wine knowledge makes you all the more sexy. Mott – her mic still could have been a little louder. Great episode!

Good timing GV, my son just moved to Germany and I’m sure Momma will be requesting a vacation trip soon. Too much background noise, too little mic for the Queen, sorry the technical aspects took away from the show.

QOTD: Reisling is OK, not my favorite white, but good for a change of pace for me

  • Tracy Mercer

Great show Gary, I love Paul G and Terroir.
Way back in the day, I cut my teeth on the great 71s and 76s from von Simmern, Rauenthaler Baiken Spaetlese was my first really “great” wine, 1971.
And the 76s from JJ Prum (Wehlener Sonnenuhr in particular) were just sensational!! And I love also the German Wine Queens, all of them!!

    Great looking show.
I like when you mix up the venue and if some background noise is the repercussion then so be it. WLTV used to be so much better when it was just a bunch of people who were grateful to have such a show to watch, not the ungrateful (wooden palate & Marc-China Wine Tours) that don’t have two sense of knowledge.

QOTD: Riesling, you don’t need to be a lounge kid to enjoy it.

Loved this episode. I NEED to get to NYC. It has been too long. Riesling rules and so did this lovely guest. Sound quality was iffy but it just made me pay more attention. The bottle brought back Mateus memories (our wedding ’76). Boy have you changed our wine world. Sipping Gerovassiliou a Greek regional wine of Epanomi..Malagousia and Assyrtiko varietals.God bless the wine gods and goddesses.

  • Great thought on the show, very distracting straining to hear the queen. Skipped thru to the end. Sorry bro, get that tech junk pretested before you shoot. C’mon boys!

  • I agree with Jimmy: great to go walkabout and get out of the office from time to time, but a *little* production quality wouldn’t hurt.

A good show with some technical difficulties.

QOTD – only a few Rieslings and so far I prefer the Alsace style, but I do need to try more German Rieslings. Certainly will do this soon.

hi GV, just wondering when you ship the wine from Fedex to w coast. can you tell them not to delivere and for customer pick up at local station. When the customer requested. I just try to request my package to be held at the homedelievery location they told me they have to try one time delievery before then can hold it at location. I think that sucks cause it is hot here and the wine might get to hot. Thx

More like German Wine Hottie! This lady is the complete package. Sophisticated, smart, wine savvy, and beautiful.

Difficulty with the episode is being able to hear her at all. Might have been better if you had the place to yourselves.

Good job being a gentleman on the walnut call too Gary. She is adorable, what a doll she is.

Concerning the 2005 Schmitt?s Kinder Riesling Spatlese, at $45 a bottle it better be good!
