89/100

lines of the day – ‘point to that Supernerd over there’ and ‘It’s like when you don’t go to clubs anymore and you go to lounges’

Would’ve scored much higher but for the poor sound quality of the guest. She’s either got a very, very small voice or there was something wrong wih her Mic. Mott tried to step in and help but didn’t work. Shame. The bar looks like a great place to go…one day perhaps.

    Hi Gary,

I love the concept of the show @ a wine bar – Couldn’t hear what the Queen had to say thus I had to skip over most of the show.
Otherwise another good show – it was good to see that you weren’t tasting a Mateus (u had me fooled for a second)

Very good show except for the tech problems. It was great to have a beautiful woman who knew her stuff about German wines.

QOTD: German reislings are what started my interest in premium wines. In college and for a couple of years afterward all I could afford or knew was Matteus and Lancers with a little Annie Greensprings thrown in. About 1973 I was temporarily stationed in Frankfurt Germany at the Rhine Mein AFB. The opportunity to experience great reislings was outstanding. My palate has never been the same.

Please Mott, next time give GV’s mike to the guest; Gary was loud and the guest was soft. Why don’t you ever taste an elegant Kabinett when you do Germany?? Smell it first. TR

What a great show! I really like the background, the noise, and the surrounding people. You should do this format more often.

The Wine Queen is absolutely gorgeous, and she knows her wines, too. How come the U.S. doesn’t have a wine queen competition? Instead, we have that stupid idols show.

QOTD: I have only had about 10-15 different rieslings in my short tasting tenure, so I am not too familiar with the varietal yet. However, this year, I came across one that is superb. It is the 2007 Von Kesselstatt Spatlese Scharzhofberger Riesling. What a great wine! It is very tasty. Drinks like a cream soda, but has tangy acidity. If you swirl it a little in the mouth, it drinks like Champagne. Very interesting wine. I put away a few bottles, and plan to pop one every 3-5 years or so, if I could wait that long.

A German wine fan from way back. Great show but the audio was poor on the 2nd mike(the queen). How about some we can buy in USA>
QOTD: All German wine are delightful and intreging with wonderful flavor profil and light on the nose. They last for years as attested to some from the 90’s that are still drinking great. Have yet to have a bad one after drinking them for the last 15+ yrs.Even the trocken although dry are spectacular.

Well, she was nice to look at and seemed to know quite a few things about German wine – not bad at all!

QOTD – I really like German Riesling. A lot!

Pure beauty made you sound like the Charlie Brown teacher. What was the show about again?

I like where you are going with things. 🙂

Always a joy to listen. Can’t wait to try the Spatlese- silky, elegant, mineral, coast-to-coast: another great evocative description from Gary V (despite the OMG_Mateus nightmare recall).
The background ambient was a fun, great idea – hope you do more. Do wish the Wine Queen’s lav had been working-or that the background could have been mixed down.

    Wonderful episode.

    Hey Gary,

I didn’t even finish watching; I had to leave this comment immediately. Did you say let’s give this wine a “smell” for the first wine?

I’ve never heard that reference before!

    Cheers,

    Dave

The queen impressed, be careful competing with royalty! Love the focus on Reisling, especially including the ’93. Am a big fan of Reislings but have not had the opportunity for something that has aged for a while. Even with some of my ignorance of the naming at times, I have yet to have a bad experience.

  • What a doll. Dark haired German? Could not hear a word other than her Teutonic accent.

Ahhhhh, I must be part of the 2% Nerdy Nerdy Riesling geeks because there is no better varietal out there. And on top of that having a drop dead gorgeous German guest, makes it that much better.

And yes, I remember the Mateus which hit me between the eyes when I saw that bottle! Funny.

QOTD: The Riesling wines of Germany are my favorite. Doesn’t get better than that.

    Good job Mott!

    Cheers!

Liked the concept and the show overall was solid, but it was a little load in the background and “the queen” got drowned out most of the time. Must be a small crown if the elf’s head can’t fit in it.

QOTD: Love German Riesling and am going to continue purchasing heavy on the 07’s for sure, but unfortunately don’t drink enough of it. Kinda like cali zins in that I enjoy lots of them that I try, but for some reason never pull the trigger on bottles.

Back in the day, late 70’s I drank a bunch of rieslings from Napa. Mostly Mondavi and his brother Crug. I remember them going down like sweet smooth water. Either my palete changed or they got real sour in the 80’s. I’ve since had a couple imports and they were very nice.

QOTD: Haven’t had many German rieslings, but they, and the varietal in general, are growing on me. I really like the combination of creaminess and high acid that you can sometimes get with the grape.

    Good episode.

I think once Americans get over the mistaken idea about Riesling being sweet it will explode in popularity. You are helping to do that.

This episode definitely got ALOT prettier! And wine royalty as well?! Be still my heart! Didn’t even know there was such as thing as a Deutsche Weinkönigin. They should make a reality tv show out of it, it’ll be like Germany’s Next Top Model but for wine geeks.

QOTD: I love riesling. Fell in love with it when living in Vallendar, Koblenz for half a year last year on a student exchange. Got to taste loads of German wines from all over and especially the Mittelrhein. I really love the trockens!
