89/100

lines of the day – ‘point to that Supernerd over there’ and ‘It’s like when you don’t go to clubs anymore and you go to lounges’

Would’ve scored much higher but for the poor sound quality of the guest. She’s either got a very, very small voice or there was something wrong wih her Mic. Mott tried to step in and help but didn’t work. Shame. The bar looks like a great place to go…one day perhaps.

  • I bet your daughter will love this episode when she goes back through the classics. Glittery crown…pink shirt…and Wine Queen as the guest? AWESOME

Mott…phenomenal job with the camera skills

Gary, after having signed a 7-figure book deal, I would sure hope you could affoord a $30 bottle of wine each day- unless little Misha is WAY too spoiled!

QOTD: Love riesling, haven’t had nearly enough from Germany.

Great Episode… Riesling, Terroir and the Queen. It’s the perfect combination.

QOTD: German rieslings are (probably along with white Burgs) the best white wines produced in the world in my humble opinion. I love the various expressions of the grape (sweetness, ripeness) and the versatility of pairing… but the balance of residual sugar and acidity is what makes it so unique and delicious.

    PS: God save the Queen!

    Ausgezeichnet!!

Wow. Sehr schön und intelligent! Sie ist die Rhein Königin :D.

It’s a good thing I’m 27 so that I can enjoy my last year of having the cool factor, Gary 😉 BTW, it was great to see Mott’s coveted thumb of approval.

QOTD: I agree with Gary that Rieslings and German wines in general are underappreciated. I think it’s because most guys want to be “a man” and drink nothing but big dry reds and girls don’t want to be ostracized so they give the excuse that they are “still on training wheels, so that’s why they like it”.

I think that there might be a language barrier issue as well. When a typical American sees a French label, they don’t need to read it, because pop culture has told us that all of the extra silent letters and flowy accent marks should be associated with elegance and then that tells the story for them (whether it be right or wrong). But then when they see a German bottle, there are many k’s, sch’s, and umlauts. I think that scares people into thinking that it is too foreign.

The problem is that our pop culture breeds into us false pretenses about some cultures and doesn’t expose us to others. But I wouldn’t blame the people too much though, because up until the internet the only exposure they receive in rural and suburban areas are from pop culture and maybe a handful of brief experiences with people who have traveled from across the world.

  • ErieWineGuy(Glenn Chojnacki)

Very nice show, VERY nice wine queen.

Important info for beginners that Riesling can be both sweet and dry.

I think that Riesling could be the next explosively popular white wine.

Mott did a great job w/out a tripod!

    Thanks for a great show!

What a waste of a decent guest. Drop a few bucks for some microphones that actually work (her’s obviously was broken) and get a camera light. Background noise was annoying.

I couldn’t hear the QOTD, but I think it had something to do with German wines. I’ve did a tasting at the following winery back in 1998 and found a bunch that rocked.

The German wine queen was kinca cute but for this quaffer, but for coronation, I’d prefer to see Shira Lazar or our own Jen Ppipes wear the crown.
Speaking of which, coincidentally, you know that guy in the grey shirt wearing the tiara who was walking back and forth through the ep? He’s known as the Lower East Side Wine Queen.

  • I know I keep saying this, but this is my favorite episode ever! I love the way she twirls her glass and she really knows her wine! Classy lady indeed.

    QOTD:

I’m obsessed.tv 😉 with German Riesling. It’s funny actually. My friends used to consider Rieslings “the sweet stuff”, but I always show up to parties with a red wine and a Riesling (almost always from Germany) and it’s usually the Riesling that steals the show. Now they are all addicted to acid and Riesling. Good stuff. It just seems like you can’t go wrong with a German Riesling!

The queen’s mic didn’t work. What little I heard of her I think was coming through your mic, Gary. Such a shame. It could have been one of the best episodes ever. Mot, good steady hand with the camera.

I would of like to hear Marlies Dumbsky over the roar of the crowd. She knew her stuff. Overall a great show as I love rieslings. I spent three years in Germany from 69-72 ,thanks to Uncle sam, and went from drinking their beer to just the wine. The wines were outrages and prices were fair.

QOTD: As stated above reisling was my introduction to wine and it could of not have been better.

ps. No, Gary I did not have any trouble hearing you.

QOTD:Haven’t got into the German reislings as of yet(new to wine)
Have had a few the one’s I liked were the heavier sort.

Are the Rieslings heavier flavored than the other whites in general?

QOTD: I love German wine to death. I’m glad you guys had and older one too because these wines have so much potential for aging. Had a 1997 J.J. Prum Auslese from magnum last year and the thing still tasted brand new. (And Awesome).

Gary did you notice the S, followed by the F bomb from that chick on the background at 17:27 of the show? Bahahaha that would be me if I was there… NY, gotta love the pottymouth females! Naughty!
QOTD: Love the Riesling varieties… Also starting to get more in to their pinot noir called “Spatburgunder”.

  • Riesling is one drawback to working at a steakhouse in TX. We just do not sell white wine, much less riesling.
I love it though and keep some 375mls of Dr Loosen Wehlener Sonnenhuhr Auslese. So what if I buy most of it back for my own consumption.
Love the guest. Love the show even with the obvious drawbacks. I like when you have a guest.

  • Home sweet home 🙂

Schön immer mehr Deutsche bei Gary am Tisch sitzen zu sehen!

    @QOTD
Wer einmal ein großen trockenen Riesling getrunken hat (zB Keller’s G-Max) weißt, das jeder fette buttrige Chardonnay dagagen müde ausschaut.

I definitely belong to the 3% of nerdy Riesling drinkers. It’s by far my favourite white varietal! Nothing can beat its complexity!

QOTD: I loooove German wines, most specially (very, very close to my heart) Riesling – is THE QUEEN OF WHITE VARIETALs. No need to say more.

    Nice job Gary!

As a German I am very pleased to see our wine queen on you show. Sad that she is hard to understand. Anyway you are doinig a great job once more.

It is very nice too that this time I will be able to get some of the wines tasted. I fell (reading the comments) that the vaynernation is getting more and more international which is cool.

QOTD I just love each and every good wine which includes my favorites from Germnay: Riesling (Mosel) and Spätburgunder (Baden).

Keep changing the wine world 😉

I love German wines, though of all the major wine-producing countries in the world it’s probably the one I know the least about, I’m usually stabbing in the dark as far as regions, styles, and vintages, though I’ve rarely been disappointed (for comparison, France, 60% U.S., 50%, Italy, 30%, Spain, 80%, and still batting 1000 with Portugal). As far as Riesling in general I would put myself in that third category, definitely some of the most interesting and complex white wines, though I’ve never had one that old.

GV: Love it when you play Pretty Pretty Princess…Oh wait…This was Queen for the day!! Too Too funny.

QOTD: Did not think much about german wines, but now that we’ve seen the Wine Queen I’ll pay more attention. I’m actually going to Germany for the Christmas markets in December so I can’t wait to try the Reislings there!
