  • Gary,

If you recall, my answer to your question of “what are you drinking these days?” included both Gavi and Arneis. I have never underrated the white Italian varietals.

QOTD: I would says the most underrated wines are white varietals from Campania.

Nice show. Tried a Gavi after you last had it on. . . was good, not great. A little hard to find.

I think Falanghina is underrated. No one I know seems to have heard of it. I learned about it on your show and like it a lot – at room temperature.

ECHO ECHO ECHO!! We need to work on the accoustics of that cement room your filming in.
QOTD: Living Colour (the all black rock band). The most under-rated band of it’s time.

  • Nice show! Always great to hear you talk about wines I’ve never heard of.

QOTD: Believe it or not Chardonnay! If I hear one more person say “ABC” (Anything But Chardonnay)… drives me nuts

PS- Love seeing shows taped in different locations, but I think you should invest in a nice, small, shotgun microphone or something. What good is bringing the thunder if we cant hear it.

PSS- Next time you’re in SF you should tape an episode at our studio (autofuss.com), its right across the street from Digg. We’ve got robots.

Hooray for Gary. Alot of stuff going on as usual, we can kinda tell by the ‘lower’ energy levels.

Gavi is great stuff! Not a category I know much of.

My ‘coup de coeur’ for the summer has been the Genoli 2008 Ijalba Rioja.

  • I’m a nightly red-wine drinker, love it. But complete novice. So I’m watching and learning. Also just digging your platform here…and about to model it in my own business.

QOTD: Self-Employment. I’m sitting here next to Jon Dale, who just completed a 6-month ‘MBA’ with Seth Godin. You’ve met Jon. We’re each working at what we love, we own what we work at…and life is good.

  • QOTD: Under-rated: France. I mean, six weeks of vacation, 300 days of sun, le vin, free health care and… Carla Bruni! Isn’t she French?

PS. I’m headed to Pic Saint Loup on Friday to visit the wineries on a recent show. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

I’m lovin the in depth nose descriptions as well as the plastic mop spit
    bucket.

QOTD: Gewurtztraminer. When done well, one of the most aromatic wines
around. Alsace still rules the roost but the Finger Lakes (NY)
are turning out some really good gewurtz.

  • QOTD: I am so glad you brought this up! I fell in love with Francicorta when I moved to Italy. I did a search on wine library and found that Franciacorta barely existed in your archives. I can find great values here in Florence, and they bring a lot of thunder. What is the Franciacorta scene in the US like? I think that all Italian whites are underrated: vermentino, friulano, greco, fiano, prosecco, asprinio, and the floral muscat.(i know Ive missed a few) Please bring a Franciacorta epidsode to WLTV! I can talk your head off about Italian whites, if anyone is interested contact me at my blog. Ciaooo!

    Hi Gary,

I went by your store on Saturday for the first time, I drove 1.5 hours to get there and it was well worth it. So I have a challenge for you…..how about doing a show where you pair cheeses with red wine, it is always the hardest thing for me to do. Pairing cheeses with whites is a lot easier. How about pairing a Pinot Noir, a Cab and a Tempranillo with cheeses. Ciao! Eev

I haven’t had many good Gavi wines as of late. Too expensive for the wines I have tasted. I will have to try a few more. Have to watch the weekend warrior stuff as you will pay in the long run. Many of us have. I haven’t seen much undervalued lately. Mostly overvalued.

Gary, always like when you expand my white options. Will have to search out a couple Gavi.

QOTD: Chicago in the summer. Every person that comes to visit seems to be blown away. Quite possibly the worst PR job ever. I guess we need to wait on the Olympic bid to change that.

  • Gary, for the record, there are yellow raspberries. That may be close enough to you ‘white raspberries’ you mentioned on the show. Great show!
