Spectacular episode, spectacular guest. The best thing about it is Heidi’s voice…I could listen to those dulcet tones all day!

I’m not sure if I have had any of her wines, but based on her “class” alone, i’m going to search one out…

  • Loved her. Loved the drinking wine while picking tomatoes comment. Don’t understand how anyone can live without a garden. Great guest.
QOTD: I like Syrah, have always bought into Cab, so it was a natural transition. Took me longer to get into Pinot. Like the anise/licorice component that is common.
Need to get some pirate wine! Arrrrgggh!

What a classy lady. I’ve tasted this wine from an earlier vintage and was blown away.

  • Great show, and hats off to an amazing guest. It was interesting to see how Gary didn’t shut up about finding some of the wines a little too over oaked (These are all clearly Parker wines) and how well Heidi took it, while still trying to convince Gary that they were not overoaked.

It’s encouraging to see a real person, unabashedly enjoying their craft, their life, and their syrah. I’ll go get a bottle – based on Heidi’s testimonial.

I’m with Heidi on the Syrah question…I love Syrah and drink about 50 times more of it than I do Pinot.

Great episode… would love to see more episodes on Napa Cabs (and Syrah too)!

A lovely lady Gary – she knows a LOT about wine! QOTD: Syrah is an amazing grape capable of reaching greatness when made well. BUT – I’m sorry, Pinot Noir can reach even greater heights than any other grape in the WORLD! Yes, it can be sweet and sickly, but no other grape can achieve the elegance and silkyness it delivers in my opinion (although Syrah can be seen quite near behind it’s shoulder). I’m sure people will disagree with me but Pinot and Syrah are certainly up there in the top five best grapes in the world list (for me Pinot is no. 1).

I am in agreement with Heidi in that I prefer Syrah over Pinot Noir, by a long, long ways. However, that is the fun part about wine, really good pinot (Kosta-Browne Gary’s or Rosella’s for me)can really be fun. But I do agree, I drink Syrah 25:1 over Pinot.

    What a great interview.

To answer Heidi’s question. So far, when the Syrah I have tried is harsh it is really harsh and hearty. When it is good it is a great buy. I’m young in my career. Syrah seems to have more variance in quality than Pinot in what I might get when I take a chance on the bottle. Simple as that. Seems riskier unless I am cooking a heavy spicy Louisiana meal.

QOTD. My first Shiraz was a Rosemount. I loved the wine. It was peppery and smooth (this was back in college late 90’s). I bought a lot of it.
Then… they became almost as bland as merlot at the time. I still try them but haven’t gotten that fruit and pepper smoothness in a long time.
I would love to try the La Sirena. Send some to Oregon please. thanks.

I just can’t rap my head around Pinots but watching WLtv inspires me to taste and taste and taste so I do not wish to become a snob but I’d much rather drink just about anything there is besides Pinot!! Especially Chateauneuf-du=Pape!

  • Great episode!

QOTD: Love syrah, but haven’t had a lot of luck finding good examples. My first experience with syrah was by Miner. Very big, earthy, yet not over the top wine.
