QOTD: I’ve just developed an interest in sports as of recently. Mainly for the social aspect. I thoroughly enjoy the more “boring” sports like golf and tennis. I really like tennis.
But as far as my favorite team is concerned, I’d have to say Orlando Magic (basketball). Those are my boys!
I’ll be following the football more this season so hopefully I can find myself a team to support soon.

Love the vouvray stuff…really nerding it out lately on the wltv and it’s awesome! Keep up the good work Gary.

Oh yeah, your speech that you gave at the 2.0 web convention thing was really inspirational. I agree with you, everyone needs to “quit watching f*cking LOST!!” Haha, people would be way more productive.

My preference for sports are hockey and basesball, but I know you are serious about football. When it comes to football, I have to go with the Vikings. I grew up in Minnesota during their best years and still wish them well. I don’t keep track of who plays for them anymore; although I know they don’t have a quarterback. Yeah we know they can always pull a defeat from the jaws of victory, but that is a Minnesota sports tradition.

  • Gary, you could tell that the deadpan took a ton of effort on your part to maintain. Once you stopped thinking about it and started focusing on the wines, garyvee came back. During the intro, I kept waiting for you to say, “just kidding”. Love it.

QOTD: New Orleans Saints Fan. Loveable Losers that I was raised on. Like the Jets without the rings…sigh.

Vouvray’s have excellent age ability if made well by a good producer, I have had some exellent Vouvrays dating back to the 80’s and not only from France but Califonia too. I appreciate your enthusiam and you trying older vintages.

So you want to pull out some lurkers? OK here I am!
I’ll look for a Pinon Vouvray tonight.

QOD – Red Wings – unfortunately living in Orlando means almost zero hockey coverage.

Excellent show – Vouvray (and good Chenin in general) are certainly up there as one of my favourite white wines (but, I must admit, my list is starting to get longer, damnit Gary! All this encouraging folks to expand our wine horizons and the like).

QOTD: Leafs fan. Born into it, of course (as most of us are for hockey in Canada), but I couldn’t change it if I wanted to (and I don’t). So, much like you, I haven’t been alive to see the last time my team won a Championship.

Wow, love the Vouvray episode, especially the dessert wine. Too bad it’s almost $60 bones. At that price, I’ll probably have to pass. Dessert wine is so tough on the pocket book. I’d love to see you try to find dessert wine bargains, sometime.

QOTD: If we’re talking pro teams, I have to go with the Seattle Mariners. That’s the first pro team in any sport I really cared about. College, gotta go with Duke Blue Devil basketball, especially the women. And, of course, I’ll take any team my kids are playing on. Go Blue Sharks!

    Hey Gary,

My wife and I have been watching your show for the last few months, so you have two more fans. We live in PA, so, many of the wines you sample on the show are unavailable to us, and we must “taste vicariously? through you a lot of the time. You?ve really opened up our wine world, especially with getting us to REALLY smell and taste the wine. Our palettes are expanding.

Great show on the wines from Vouvray, can?t wait to try some. The merlot show was a lot of fun (maybe not for you). We had a similar experience with some Vinho Verde from Portugal. Picked up 6 bottles from different wine-makers for a tasting, and only 1 was drinkable. So, maybe not so much fun after all.

Almost finished reading 101 Wines. Have learned a lot and appreciate your efforts to change the wine world. Now if you could only change the PA wine laws!

    Ciao,

    Rudy

  • Not sure about Serious Gary, though this was a solid episode. I’m completely with you on Vouvrey. Lucky enough to have some good ones at a restaurant in Providence, though costing restaurant prices. You’re so right that it’s a wonderful just sit down and drink wine. Very enjoyable for me. Thanks.

QOTD: Any sport? Boston Red Sox.

QOTD: Redskins. Though I wish we could get a new owner. Sure you wanna buy the Jets?

Serious Gary: You are a sham sir. I saw Thunder Gary trying to break free several times. At around the 6 minute mark the wine got you too excited to keep this toned down mask on. Interacting with Mott got you to go so far as mentioning Hulk Hogan on the show. And of course the QOTD got you in a football mood and you almost fully reverted to Thunder Gary. Don’t lock Thunder Gary away. He’s more persuasive than Serious Gary because he’s more charismatic. In closing, some lyrics from one of my favorite bands, Steely Dan (not the Steelers, re: QOTD, they’re awful).

“We hear you’re leaving, that’s ok
I thought our little wild time had just begun
I guess you kind of scared yourself, you turn and run
But if you have a change of heart

    Gary don’t lose that Thunder
You don’t wanna call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
    Gary don’t lose that Thunder
Its the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better
    When you get home”

  • Lower energy show, but good info. With you taping so many of thes on the same day maybe you’re getting a litte intra-day burnout?

QOTD: The Detroit Tigers, custodians of the “Olde English D” an unmistakable team logo. How many times have the Jet’s changed their logo?
