  • PS–I think that GV just “played” all of us and was intentionally bland/boring to elicit more comments 😉

Football=Soccer to me, fav team is Man. Utd!!!

Anyway, you said you taped the previous episodes yesterday…
well, you seem to be wearing the same top. Either Burberry is sponsoring you or it’s all on the same day! Way off the tangen here, no offence GV…however, on the plus side, it looks good on you!

Lastly, this epi and your tone…reminds me of your first 100 episodes!

    Peace out…!

My favorite team is the Florida Gators. Go Gators and go Tebow Mania. While I grew up a Jet and Yankee fan being from the Bronx and still follow both teams there is nothing more exciting then a SEC football game in the south. Take Care Bruce from Gainesville Florida.

  • My name is Jr. Vol because I am a huge fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. And you can thank Tennessee for hiring away Monte Kiffin and the infamous Tampa II to come to Knoxville with his son Lane to bring the Vols back to national contenders! Go Vols!

QOTD: NY GIANTS!! GO G-MEN!! Say it with me Mott! Only 4 Weeks away, can’t wait til football season starts.

P.S. Gary you need to do a show on what wines pair well with Buffalo Wings. No joke here, you seriously need to bang out a show on the subject.

Just started learning about wines thanks to this show and I think you have talked me into my first non-red purchase.

    Thanks for your efforts.

QOTD: New Orleans Saints. There are no other teams or other sports.

I watched Vouvray go from rather popular in the early 80’s, to falling fully out of favor, supplanted by the explosive success of White Zinfandel by the mid- to late 80’s. Though there was absolutely room for both, the pretty pink was viewed, even by experienced drinkers, but especially by the growing sector of younger women, as more exciting, novel, and somehow, sophisticated. In reality, it was one of the largest, ubiquitously inescapable trendy fads to come down the pike in the later half of the 20th Century. With a matching boom in cookie cutter corporate restaurants in the next couple years (c.1989 and later), each with the same abyssymally bad wine list, Vouvray retreated to the shadow of it’s former glory. Happily, fine wine retailers never lost sight, and a remarkable range of styles and responsible small producers defended their family legacies.
For me, Vouvray can be great, from spring, even on a rainy day, after the Crocuses pop up, as we wait in anticipation for the coming warmth of Summer, with fresh brook trout stuffed with crab and herbs, to the fall, as aperetif, with light cheeses, of even roast fowl. It’s got quite a bit of range. Easily used as a changeup for QbA Rieslings.

Good show on a little talked about wine. 2 years ago when I really started getting into wine, a vouvray was the 1st white wine that rocked my face off!! 🙂

QOTD: The Pittsburgh Steelers (6 time SB winners :)) Cant wait to see how the rooks look tonight playing the cards!!!

Gary – True comment about vouvray – it’s availablity. I could probably hit the top 10 wine shops in northeast Ohio today and I’m guessing the B&G might be the only vouvray offered. Hopefully I’m wrong and a few others are on the shelf that I have not noticed but … possibly not.

QTD – Cleveland Cavs (favorite). Growing up it was the Dolphins, but that’s faded as players no longer have a commitment to any team for an extended period. Plus the Doplphins ownership was changed a few times now, as well as the coaches after Shula … just too much turnover for me to remain a diehard fan. I’m still a fan, but that’s about it. Yes, Browns are after the Dolphins, as a fan.

Gary, Let’s not limit moelleux Vouvray to dessert wine! The great Vouvray maker Poniatowski loved to pair his moelleux Vouvray with chicken or fish soup. Moelleux Vouvray can also go with foie gras and blue cheese.
Nice show, as usual. Sad to say, there are many mediocre Vouvray wines on the mass US market. That causes consumers to over generalize Vouvray and Chenin Blanc as being mediocre, uninteresting.

Your last “You!” made me laugh at work. I had to listen to it again. It needs to go on a highlight reel.

  • I’m a huge fan of Vouvray. And as a chef, I love its great food versatility. Especially fond of many sparkling Vouvrays. Good show.

I know you said you were serious, but the old style “vanerchuk” at the opening (rather than the VAY-NER-CHUK of late) is reminiscent of back in the day when you were a wine guy promoting a wine business and sharing your knowledge. Now it’s more about the Vaynerchuk “brand.” But I can’t say I blame you . . .

QOTD: Although our national reputation as fans is about as embarrassing as being a Philly Eagle fan, but I gotta say I’m a GATOR Football fan first, Tampa Bay Rays fan next.

QOTD: Pittsburgh Penguins — This year was the first year that my favourite team finally won the championship! Crosby showed everyone he can lead his team to the Cup—and He’ll do the same for Canada at the Olympics!

Great show! Can’t wait to go and try a Vouvray!

  • I like the Vouvray, but do not see it in this neighborhood much. A few years ago the Woodstock Farmers Market brought in some…same winery/vintage, one still, one sparkling. Both delish and affordable price no less. Can’t recall the name. There is still one sparkler in the cellar, but it got way too damp down there at one point an dthe label did not survive.

QOTD: I like to play but just not much of a spectator…my wife knows way more about current sports than I do. I did grow up on the Yanks and the Jets (Namath was my hero) though…

    Nice show GV,

this polo is very nice but is kind of stinky after “3 days”, just kidding…

    QOTD: Nautico (Recife – Brazil).
QFGV: Please Gary could you find a way to ship wine to Brazil?
