line of the day – ‘I know I’m making you guys vomit with all this camera action’

GV raw and unplugged. Absolutely love these spontaneous shows. Who else would have the balls to walk into a wine bar unannounced and start filming off the cuff? Answer – no one!

Sorry bud, have not had a wine by the glass this year! Nice change of pace on the show. When will the info on the `Crush it Cruise’ be available?

Nice to see the city atmosphere. Appreciate you getting a shot of the Rottweiller dog. Probably should have had a German wine.

QOTD: Don’t recall having too many wines by the glass for this reason. I usually order something a little less common and forget to ask if it is a fresh bottle. You, on the other hand, asked to see the bottles. A Mcwilliams Riesling from Australia was pretty flat. My best wine by the glass was Monchoff Urziger Wurtzgarten Riesling, a new bottle opened at David Drake’s. They even let you try the “Wines by the Glass” to see if you wish to order the full glass.

Best wine by the glass was Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay 2007. Have had it several times at the Lamplighter restaurant. Great with the summer salad menu.

  • Good Luck on Friday, I had the same surgery a few years ago and came back to win the Jackson Hole Marathon and run a 2:24:00 at the twin cities marathon….You will come back from it!!!!

QOTD: Worst – I went to what is supposed to be a nice wine bar and they had all grocery store ?Gallo? wines. Had one glass of Rancho Zabaco then switched to Beer.

    Best ? Felino Cabernet, Mendoza

We usually bring bottles and pay corkage. Gosh I think I only had one all year and it was a house label pino grigio from Il Fornaio in Burlingame with my mom.

That was really cool…I’m so glad you did a totally impromptu show, I’d like to see more of them! I’m thinking Gary should hop in his car, and drive around the country tasting wines all over the place! Like Guy Fieri but with wine haha.

QOTD: I almost never order wine by the glass when we go out. We usually get a bottle, and if the 2 of us don’t finish it, we have them package it back up for us to take home.

I had a couple glasses of Pinot Noir at the SF Giants game last week that tasted very good, even out of the plastic cup. Starts with a T but can;t remember the winery. Maybe Talus.

GVee love the show! Been watching for awhile on iTunes, finally getting around to posting. Did want to say, as I just watched yesterdays show right now as well, I represent the CKC in Pittsburgh @ Duquesne U. I know I speak for the rest of the Pittsburgh area in saying we would love you to come out to the Burgh to promote the book! Keep up the good work and keep CRUSHING IT!

Forgiving the awful camera work (Mott, where are you when we need you?), the show itself was kind of interesting. I don’t think I have ever had a Pinot Noir rosé before.

QOTD: I hardly ever order wine by the glass since my wife and I almost always order a bottle. We had a Robert Mondavi Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon last night at a chain restaurant that was extremely mediocre. It tasted like every other bad/cheap Cali Cab that I’ve ever had. At a local Thai restaurant, we had a Chateau St. Michelle Washington State Riesling that was actually very nice and went tremendously well with the spicy Thai food.

Good street show Gary. I enjoy traveling to new cities and walking the streets and finding neat wine bars. QOTD: I really like a glass of Dry Creek Vineyards cabernet when I go to PF Changs. It goes great with their spicy beef dishes. I’ve had many bad wines by the glass, but I try to forget about them.

  • We’ve had the Toad Hollow rose before and I remember being disappointed…we did like their Amplexus Cremant Brut and still have at least one downstairs. Too bad about the SB as well, 0 for 2 this time I guess.
I like the wine commando shows a lot, but can see how some might have a hard time looking at the screen, after all you are far more animated than a tripod.

QOTD: don’t do wines by the glass much for many of the aforementioned reasons, but even so, no stinkers so far this year, maybe some ho-hums, but I am still thinking about the Verementino that we had a tasting two weeks ago…need to get down to the market after work, my order is in.

  • Love the show, like the random hit on a bar to see what they have to offer by the glass. More of these please.

QOTD – Don’t buy wine by the glass, always dine with friends and so we need a bottle!

Hey Gary- I like the on the road, spontaneous thing, but and I know you know it’s coming- maybe use a little mini tripod for the seated portion. I was getting nauseous. Nice show though, too bad they weren’t great wines, we know that happens. I love the quick 10-15 minute episodes becasue I can watch at lunch, and I love seeing different spots around town. Keep it up GV!

Good show and I really like when you take it “on the road”. This past June I was in NY and we went to Turks and Frogs for drinks…..loved it and thought the wine selection was very good.

QOTD: worst–Redwood Creek Merlot(it was a restaurant’s house and it was awful)
best–a french white at Turks and Frogs(I think it was a Chablis) It was the bartender’s recommendation.

QOTD: I have a great wine bar in my town where I can get half-glass tastes at a reasonable price. So I’ve done quite a bit of palate research here and other places in my area in the last year.

Amongst the best would be the 1998(?) Schloss Schlossborn (sp?) Riesling and the 2007 Millton Gisborne Chenin Blanc. Golden Yumminess in a glass and about $25 retail. I usually like my whites with good friut vs. acid balance, but when someone does a serious, slighty off-dry white with big flavors and mouthfeel, I totally understand & appreciate it.

The worst was a grassy Sauvignon Blanc (not remembering the winery) I had in an Irish Bar in Saratoga last October while I was attending a chocolate making class. I had one or two sips and I just couldn’t bring myself to finish it.
(Something I rarely do) Should of known better and ordered a Stout.

Liked the off-the-cuff episode. And I really like how you were having a personal conversation with us. You even asked the Jim to bring “us” some wine to try. Greatness!

QOTD: Had a terrific glass of 2007 Bernard Cotes-du-Rhone-Village at Cork wine bar. They have tons of options for tastings or glasses, so we try a lot of wines that way for pretty cheap. “Expanding the palatte…”

Whoops—combined palate and palette. Not trying to paint here, just trying to taste wine. Funny how palate is a range of tastes and palette is a range of colors.

QOTD: Best glass I’ve had at a wine bar has easily been a Lebanese red. I have no idea what the name was but it was absolutely delicious. Worst? A whole lot of them. Quite often it seems people put zero effort into their wines by the glass list. It’s a shame because I’m a big fan of the wine bar concept but they just don’t come through enough for me.

Glad you?re not a cinematographer! Just goes to show how much mediocre wine there is in restaurants and pubs. Also, by the glass is risky, especially if the bottle was opened a few days ago.

QOTD: Buzzard Meritage at Half Full in Lewes Beach DE. Great wood-fired oven pizza, large by the glass wine list.

Hope the knee operation goes smoothly.

Loved the on the street wine bar vlog. Nice stuff.

Worst glass was at Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara when I ordered a New Zealand Sav Blanc that was so light and almost tasteless. I was really taken aback that a wine could really be that light. Just a hint, and when I say hint, I mean hint of grass. No fruit or acid at all. So I asked to see the bottle. Server brought the bottle and as I was looking at it, the sommelier came running after her and asked what she was doing with that bottle.

Turns out the staff rinses out the wine bottles after they are empty. The server had grabbed a bottle that was full of water and poured me that thinking it was wine. YIKES.

QOTD – worst was a chardonnay (redwood creek I think, maybe?) It was all they had at the July 4th event at the Orlando Science center. Tasted like lemon scented pledge sprayed on an oak table, and then I licked the table. God awful stuff.

    Love the views around NYC!
