lines of the day – ‘you’re gonna buy the book anyway as I love you and you love me’ and ‘This is a Donkey Kong fire in your face ‘moment”

At the risk of sounding boring – what another great episode! Passion for days, a good guest and Mott trying to say the right thing…and failing…again. What more could anyone want?

I get to hang out with my wife a lot (she works with me for the time being), I’m a software developer and my work just gave us a seemingly impossible task to accomplish (a good thing), and I’m trying to volunteer as much of my free time as possible to the MGGA, and to the UofMN for their vineyards and hopefully this fall and winter for wine making.

Great, relaxed episode. Like you said, if a guest can just be themselves, it works out fine.

QOTD: Well, I’m a classical musician, so yes… doing what I love for the sake of the love…

Best of luck on the surgery Gary… you’ll be fine… The surgeon will be at the top of his game… for one thing, fearing the collective exposure to and outrage of the VaynerNation in the unlikely event of a mishap! We’ll be pulling for you…

  • Yep, I am the 1337 that Gary mentioned. Thanks for the mention, Gary. Best way to get this lurker to comment on an episode. Now that you’re getting your surgery tomorrow, and you’ll be laid up for a few days, that’s the perfect opportunity for you to catch up on your “competition” 😉 Only have 51 episodes in, so it won’t take too long 😉 And the offer for me to fill in for you still stands.

QOTD: Emphatically, yes. I am doing what I love. I review wine and educate others about it. Folks, I’m not trying to take away the Vayniacs. There is plenty of room for Gary, myself, The Naked Wine Show, 3 Wine Guys, Denver Wine Guys, and everyone else out there doing video reviews of wine. I’m just adding to the mix. I’ve been a Vayniac since about Episode 250. I’ve got the 1st four wristbands to prove it. And while my show parallels Gary’s, it’s not a clone of his. It’s all about expanding palates and introducing wines to more people.

Gary, all the best on the operation tomorrow, buddy. I know you’ll Crush It even on the operating table. You are an inspiration to many people and I can’t wait until you get back. I’m sorry I’m gonna miss seeing you in Houston on 9/26. I’ll be presenting at BarCamp San Antonio that day. You should stop by San Antonio afterwards and be a guest on MY show 😉 Then we can Crush It together. Maybe Mom will make some pasta and sauce for ya. Already have my iPhone kindle version and a physical copy on order.

Ok, damnit Gary. You got me to comment.

I’m psyched that you did a beer today. You talk about “expanding palates” and I know TONS of wine people who are looking for great taste but refuse to try craft beers. They are missing out just as much as those people who refuse to drink any white but oaky Calif. Chard or any red but Pinot Noir, Cab, whatever. Many of these folks have only had the basics (Bud, Miller, ect) and the weak “imports” (Hieneken, Amstel, Becks) and think that beer all tastes like that basic golden lager. Look at the two weak wines at 13 bucks, but that craft beer gave you way more thunder (it crushed it more) at several bucks less. Craft beers offer an amazing diversity of flavors, amazing quality and are often much more affordable. The diversity of flavor also makes beer one of the best things to pair with food around.

And Mr. Perry is right, it definitely is a “dessert beer”. Russian Imperial Stouts tend to be. Also, since you perked up at the idea of Russian Stouts, Russian Imperial Stouts were, supposedly, the style of beer the Czars preferred and had shipped from England. They are higher alcohol (7-12+pct), superthick, rich, lots of bitter chocolate roasted flavors. Many of these pairs are amazing pairings for vanilla ice cream, cheesecake, regular cake, brownies, cookies, ect.

Mr. Perry shouting out to Rogue was awesome, even though I associate them with the Oregon coast more than anything. They make some of the best drink in the US. Try their Shakespeare Stout… as fine as any fermented beverage in the world.

QOTD: Absolutely. I’m just finishing up pharmacy school, and on clinical rotations right now that take everything we learned in the classroom the last 5 years & put it into practice in real life for real patients. It doesn’t get any better than that.

    Darn. I forgot a point.

You are completely right that the BORIS is very much a “by the glass” beer and NOT something to be touched in a 40oz.
Yet many craft brewers INSIST on packaging their high-gravity (high alcohol) beers like barleywines, imperial stouts, double IPAs, ect in larger wine bottle sized (22 or 25.4 oz) bottles… like the one the the BORIS itself came in.. despite the fact that, unlike wine, you can’t recork a beer and enjoy it tomorrow. So you’re forced to drink 22oz of a 9pct ABV beer. A beer like a BORIS is not designed to be pounded like that.
    They do this because…
A.. people are silly enough to assume that bc it is in a wine-like bottle it must be classier and
B.. as a result they get better money off 22oz bottles than 6packs.

    It is a severe disappointment

Gary — good luck with the surgery. you’ll be playing tennis and bball in no time (I play both as well). How about a tennis game when you recover and up for it? — in NYC, my treat…

QOTD: yes (M&A lawyer) and what I always wanted to do, but I love other things too, and one day will do all of them as well… As you said it – we play this game once, right? — so I intend to Crush It, several times over

First off, this was a nice, refreshing guest spot. Thanks for bringing in a rep of the CKC!!
Michael, keep developing your performance persona; you’re on a great track. I’d watch your podcast. (Maybe not about wine, though!)

QotD: Yes, I am. I’m all about art history, and I’m heading to a museum post haste. It’ll be great.

Loved the guest. He’s from my area of CA and was so cute!

I just pre-ordered 4 copies of your Crush It book. Actually, I ordered 3 hard copies and 1 Kindle Edition, since I prefer to pulp-free editions of books. Unfortunately, I’m relatively new to your program and may not have caught the email address. Could you please provide that?

Had I seen this episode “blind,” not really sure what that means, but I wouldn’t guess Gary was the immigrant. This guy speaks English like an 8 year old. Dude needs to learn how to speak English, before pursuing whatever entrepreneurial endeavor he seeks. In. Case. He. Doesn’t. Get. What. I. Typed… Learn. To. Talk… Like. A. Human. Being…

    Guest sucked.

Good show as always even though the wines disappointed. I am extremly excited that now that Alabama has loosened some of there ridiculous liquor laws that I will be able to order from Wine Library even though there is still a hoop or two to jump through. I wont be taking you up on the 4 book deal even though it is a good one, I am excited about the book though and will by at least one. I like the shows where you do a non wine beverage as a change of pace so I wanted to give you a suggestion. If you can get a bottle of Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA you should review it on the show at some time. It is an absolutely ridiculous beer, it is a double IPA but instead of the bitterness that you get from most IPA’s, because of the way they make it, is is smooth and sweet almost like a port or other fortified wine. It Crush’s it at 18% ABV so be carefull but it absolutely ripped my face off when I had it. Good luch with your surgery. Roll Tide

Question of the day. I am definatly not doing what I love.
