lines of the day – ‘you’re gonna buy the book anyway as I love you and you love me’ and ‘This is a Donkey Kong fire in your face ‘moment”

At the risk of sounding boring – what another great episode! Passion for days, a good guest and Mott trying to say the right thing…and failing…again. What more could anyone want?

Enjoyed this episode, it’s nice when you throw a beer into the mix. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow.

  • Gongfather

GV good luck on your surgery.

I live in Washington, which means you can’t ship here, but I will purchase your book for sure.

Guest was funny. Although, I especially loved the moment when you first disagreed on the first wine. Classic.

Good luck on your surgery, Gary! Best wishes for a successful operation and a speedy recovery!

I am seriously considering your book/shipping offer. That’s awesome!

QOTD: I am not doing what I love full-time, but hope to one day. I’m pretty ADD, so I tend to go through passions in phases. First it was gardening, then it was birding, then it was/is wine. I’m still trying to figure everything out. I am inspired by your passion, Gary. Thanks!

  • Not sure why my comments didn’t show up the first time, so here we go again:

Yo, Gary, whuddup from 1337 😉 Great way to get this lurker to post. Anyway, thanks for the mention! Good luck with the operation. I know you’ll be up and at ’em in no time. With you on the mend this weekend it will be a perfect time for you to catch up on my stuff. Up to Episode #51 now.

When you go to Houston next month, stop by San Antonio. I’d love to have you as my guest. I’d love to show up in Houston, but I’ll be busy that day with BarCamp here.

QOTD: Am I doing what I love? Yes! I’m reviewing wine and educating people about it.

    Hi Gary,

Well love the wristbands, love the philosophy, but the show man, a little bit like watching a commercial. Do hope everything goes well with the surgery.
QOTD: Well my passions are teaching, which I do. Wine is another, a hobby getting outta hand ! And last but not least cooking.
    Lots of greetings,

    Seb

Get well with your knee and your “Hustle.” Sell those “units.”

nice show. shame about the wines not crushing it though.

gary, be happy you’re actually getting surgery tomorrow. i ruptured my acl 4 months ago, i found out yesterday that the hospital screwed up and i wasn’t even on the waiting list. so i’d been ‘waiting’ for two months uselessly. If i didn’t call to check i could have been 6 months down the drain. so be happy you can afford the surgery dude. it’s worth doing.

QOTD: i’m mostly doing what i love. i’m writing my phd thesis on film music and doing my photography on the side. i’d like to be drinking more wine and have a little more free time, but you can’t win all the time

QOTD: YES!… or at least I’m trying. I am an actor by day and the wine director at a wine bar by night. I like the uncertainty and insecurity of the business, but I enjoy the comfort within my knowledge when I serve customers at night at the restaurant.

Tasca Wine Bar, 8108 West 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA

  • Fun ep!
Gary: your “refined ladies” comment was hilar.
Good luck with the surgery and here’s to a speedy recovery.

you wine some, you lose some

qotd – the persian philosopher rumi said ” let the things you love be what you do” god bless iran.
i am an artist ( i make paintings ) and i do love what i do. it is what i do. over the past few years, it has become so much more personal. at least the activity of making it. I do not make sensitive paintings, far from. there might be sensibilities. so yes, i love what i do. if i did not, i would do something else

I’m the 105th person to say Jets.

QOTD: I’m in one of the fields that I love–Music. However, I’m not especially doing what I love in the business, but I’m happy and grateful for all that it has given to me.

Gary, best of luck on the knee surgery. You’ll get a chance to play with the new apple i-book. Wish I had one.

  • Mr. Perry hit the nail in the head when he first said “church wine”. That tells me that his brain told him “this wine sucks”. Anyway, Gary, Godspeed to you on your knee surgery. You’ll do very, very well. Your offer of free shipping for the rest of the year for buying four crush it books is loving, and more than adequate and generous, and I will support your book more, but as far as wine goes this year, I’m outspent. My budget for buying wine the rest of this year is zero. But your offer is very tempting and very, very generous and loving. I wish you the best. QOTD: I’m enjoying Concepcion quite a bit this days. Spending time with her, etc, etc, etc. Loving what I’m doing.

Ye call that stout? There is only one stout in the universe worth drinking and that?s Guinness. 250 years brewing the national drink of Ireland this September http://www2.guinness.com/
You are supposed to pour stout with the glass at about 50 degrees to maximise the creaminess of the head. That way you can drink the precious brew through the head which should result in a small creamy moustache on your upper lip. What you did will result in a very poor quality tasting. Next time try an Irish Stout. We have three: Guinness, Murphys and Beamish.

OK JETS for the 1000th time

QOTD: Draught Guinness with fresh Atlantic crab claws in garlic butter, now that?s heaven!

Yo GV, You are definitely 100% genuine, just try not to juggle too many things at once. Good luck with surgery, I pray everything will be fine. See you next week for the NYC tapings. Im excited!

  • Oh, Jets. Defense = crush it!
MP was a good guest. He was very mature for 23, (must have good upbringing). He was just a little flip floppy with his opinions, which I guess is to be expected somewhat. I’ve never tasted The Crusher brand but I can say their labels stunk! I don’t think I’d drink a beer with a frog on the label (they just don’t do it for me). Looking forward to seeing you at Roger Smith Hotel next week. Good luck with your surgery, I hope everything goes well.

QoTd: Teaching and creating art is what I love to do, and yes I am doing it!

  • Gary,
It looks like some excitement for the Jets… Hope Sanchez comes through for you guys. Of course we do not want him to be too good and raise the value of the team, it will be harder for you to purchase them if they get too expensive. I am not sure if I like your marketing tactic for the book. Do you want folks to buy it for the value of the material or to get free shipping? If we like your stuff and want to read you, we will buy it. It is a creative angle … that is for sure. Q.O.T.D… I am doing what I love, writing a book on wine, enjoying the wine steward job and teaching classes on the subject. It is a great field to be in. Loved the show, it is always refreshing to hear your honesty about wine. The only thing that irks me is when you get a guest on the show that has little experience in wine, and for some reason wants to dominate the conversation. It was cool you took care of him as the winner of the contest and we would have been happy to hear just a few remarks. No interruptions. PLEEEEASE! Thanks for keeping it real.

QOTD: Yes, I’m taking my French classes and drinking my wine and playing with my cats (latest kitten – Dixie Belle), but I tend to overthink things so that interferes with some of my enjoyment.
Fantastic offer. I’ll have to think about it. I’m reading Jim Collins now – sounds like the same mindset.

    Jets….am I #7 ???? Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering when Michael Perry would show up. At the SF party GV was picking tickets out of a bucket and promising people extraordinary things like free all expensees paid wine cruie, 6 cases of Vayniac Cab, free shipping, 500.00 gifts at the Wine Lib – it was ridonculous. And he didn’t write anything down that I could see, so it’s no surprise that something fell through the cracks.

P.S.: Take your bobble dolls with you to the hospital. They’re very cheering and will protect you.
