lines of the day – ‘you’re gonna buy the book anyway as I love you and you love me’ and ‘This is a Donkey Kong fire in your face ‘moment”

At the risk of sounding boring – what another great episode! Passion for days, a good guest and Mott trying to say the right thing…and failing…again. What more could anyone want?

    Ah to be 23 again.

QOTD: Michael, I’m working for myself and lovin’ life. Just do it!

    Jets!

I was surprised to see Hoppin Frog B.O.R.I.S on your show! How did you manage to obtain a bottle as the brewery is not that large from Akron, OH. Easy to find in Northeast Ohio but NJ? Also very funny to hear the Lebron reference when Akron is mentioned. I guess we have something positive here in Cleveland.

Great program – nice mix with beer and wine – makes it even more interesting!

    Go Cavs!

My job is not my passion, but it is good anyway. I do spend my free time with my passions of wine and travel. Have a quick recovery and hope to see you back real soon.

  • I’m a big fan of the B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher, especially their bourbon barrel aged version. This is an amazing beer .. and it’s a shame they weren’t into all that much, it’s rated an A on BeerAdvocate.com. Russian Imperial Stouts are HUGE right now, especially barrel aged versions.. On Beer Advocate, 7 of the top 10 “Top Beers on Planet Earth” are well, Russian Imperial Stouts! But I can totally drink a 40 (well, 22ounce bottle like they have) of it by myself, and do quite frequently. Just sayin!

  • That was a lof of nervous energy there. Nice to see a random Vaniac on the show. I did enjoy the irony of the Crusher wine not “Crushing It” in any way.

QOTD: yep, i’m living abroad …

besides that I’d have to agree with both you and Michael, Gary on the italian wine front. Some of the best italian wines I have had have been white…but i’ve also had a good number of amazing reds..and having lived in Italy for sometime before I have had my fair share…that said I’d have to agree with Michael that in my experience the majority of the Italian population prefers to drink to red on a regular basis…

i wish you a safe and successful surgery Gary!!

Not my favorite guest but he was honest and genuine so I give him props for that. Probably if he had time to calm down and wasn’t scared sh*tless I’d have liked him better.

Good luck with the surgery (over by now I guess).

QOTD: I loved what I do (and I don’t hate it) but I am in an ambivalent place right now.

  • Good guest. I didn’t really get into wine until my 30s so I like his enthusiasm.

QOTD in HD: I love what I’m doing. I’m a wine guy (wine buyer for a steakhouse) and now I’m going to love it even more.
I’m doing a winery internship out in Sonoma.

(shout out to Kmurph. You gave me the inspiration to follow thru on the internship)

I am a lurker no more! Great guest, great episode. Just watched Episode 275. That needs to be a classic, and for anyone who hasn’t seen it, WATCH IT NOW! After that rant, I felt like I just watched Rocky (the original), listened to Eye of the Tiger, and was ready to jump into the ring and go 15 rounds with Apollo Creed!!!

I wouldn’t say that i love what i do, but i love the benefits and the ease of trading stocks. It certainly beats working my butt off. I’m actually curious what stocks you invest in gary, because i know you are a stock guy.

anyways it was an enjoyable show, it takes a lot of guts to go toe to toe with GV knowing that the entire Vandernation is watching.

Hope that your book crushes it this weekend, i wish you a speedy recovery

  • Gary, I love your show. I never knew wine could be so much fun. I’ve watched a lot episodes now and you talk about meat constantly.

I’m sure you, like most people, have trained your pallet to eat a high fat, high sugar, high salt diet. But, have you ever considered going Vegan for a month just to see how your palette changes?

I’d Love to see what happens to your palette if you gave your arteries a month of vacation.

  • The name Boris has nothing to do with the beer being a Russian Imperial Stout. All Imperial Stouts are Russian based on classification, but it doesn’t mean it is brewed in Russia, in fact, very few are. The Carmel you taste on this beer is very characteristic of the style and comes from the roasted malts, part of what gives it the dark rich body.
