lines of the day – ‘dissecting these wines for my palate (which is why you watch the show – not for these clowns) and ‘don’t touch the Jets spit bucket EVER AGAIN’

Not my favourite format…I don’t particularly want to hear the views of Joe Public, and once again the sound didn’t work on the audience

  • Great episode GV! I was really sad hearing your review of The Stump Jump. I’ve had it in the past and always considered it a decent qpr pick! D’Arenberg is one of favorite producers from Aus. too! Well thanks for telling it like it is though 🙂

QOTD: Well for me this is a hard question to answer. I know my palate has changed but at the time I drank it the 05 Enchanted Path from MollyDooker would have to be it. The Dead Arm is also right up there 🙂 Who knows what tomorrow might bring though…

  • No french rinse for the group… for shame! Even though the audio wasn’t quite perfect, this was a better show than yesterday IMO. I also dug looking at the lady in red rather than the chump in cheetah.

QOTD: I’ve been underwhelmed with the handful of NZ’s and Aus’ I’ve tried. I’m gonna say Yellow Tail (sadly) because it’s okay.

ps- how’s it coming with Bobby Flay? Get him for a summer close show with BBQ and wine pairings.

Warramate Syrah from the Yarra valley when I was there for the Aussie Open. Also the Chandon from down under had much more nuanced flavor than the ones here in Cali. Recently had the Clarendon Hills Merlot that got bought out by Gallo. It had a big buildup and dissapointed but had the longest cork EVER! A full 2 and 1/8th inches.
Get some real wine for the kids GV.

The smoke show in the red thought GV was hysterical. Pretty funny.
The hotness of her made the audio problems of her completely tolerable.
QOTD: Crap. What a question. I love Australia and NZ wines.. But the best?? Damn you GV! I don’t know.. I have been to wine tastings and had those $200 Penfolds.. But I think I have had a lot of others that I thought were better. I don’t know. I am sorry.

QOTD: 2005 Hewitson ?Private Cellar? Shiraz/Mourvedre. Drank one of the six that I bought early just to get an idea of the development of a wine over time. It was way too young to drink but the balance and structure for future years was there in spades.

beautiful lady to the right is a great move on the part of Gary, but even better move is on the part of Mott, putting her in frame.

  • QOTD: I had 2002 (maybe 2001) Lagnmeil GSM blend that teetered perfectly between new and old world.

QOTD Ever? Not sure. In the last 3 years, 2001 Wandin Valley Shiraz Bridie’s Reserve, and that was only a 90 pt for me. OZ & NZ don’t hit the highest notes for me, but usually have good QPR

lol … don’t touch the Jets bucket ever again.

hehe … that GV, always gettin the ladies wet … by spilling wine on them of course 😉

I see you’ve relapsed into your old air quoting habits again.

QOTD: I am going preface this by saying that this wine holds a special place in my heart because it was the first wine that I ever found on my own that I liked. 2002 Yellow Tail Shiraz.

Tough call on this one, Gary. It?s always risky when you get more than 6 people on the show because of camera angles, people perhaps speaking over each other, and poor sound. Where was your man with the boomstick? Surely you had a boomstick, right? I could only hear about half of what the others said.

The other big risk here is alienating your audience by the selection of guests. Gary, I love ya, but most of us can?t stand stuffy, pretentious human beings. This is what makes your show so great: you broke wine out of its age-old box as a luxury consumer product, and you made it fun! I saw the attire of the women to your left and right, and guessed that I was in for an unpleasant ride. At the risk of being presumtuous, I?d venture to say that your selection of guests was not representative of most Vayniacs in any way, shape, or form. You risked it big-time there. Maybe others liked it. I?ll thumb through the reviews to see if I?m alone in my criticism.

Most of the guests seemed alright, but again, the moment I saw that woman?s black hat, and the absurd way she tasted wine, I was only half tuned in, letting the show play while I tabbed over to other tasks on my computer. This is WLTV, not the Kentucky Derby! Even though I?m a loyal fan, and I enjoy your show, the rule of first impressions is always in play.

I?ll tune in one more time to your big-show production, but if it doesn?t jive with the usual tone of your show, I?ll skip out on the rest of wine week. Seems like your A game is with the flip cam or when Mott is shooting.

    Best of luck,
    C.J.

Good show, like the group format.

QOTD: Without a doubt Te Mata Estate Coleraine 2005. Considered to rank equally with 2nd Growth Bordeaux level. (Not that I would know, my finances dont stretch that far)

A huge amount of feedback on the sound, kind of annoying.

You should turn off the mic when the guests are not speaking

  • Somewhere in the basement there’s an ’01 Penfolds Bin 389, that I paid well under $15 for. Looking forward to it, one of these days.

  • QOTD: By far the best Australian wines I have had this year were made by Ben Glaetzer. Heartland (2006) and Wallace — both around $15 — delicious. Unfortunately, I can’t afford his 100 point Amon-Ra wines, but that’s alright — it gives me something to dream about at night 🙂
