    Wretched audio. That room is just too live.

    I’m surprised by the poor showing of The Stump Jump. I had it maybe two years ago and it was more than acceptable. Poor vintage? New winemaker? Bad luck?

    QOTD: Probably something from Yalumba, but that’s a guess.

    Best Aus wine Calabria 2006 oak aged Saint Macaire, I bought 6 bottles and have 4 left, should have bought 12. You have shown me how to express my opinions of wine without being embarrassed, thank you.

    QOTD: I’m liking the John Duvall wines as they’re not too over the top and pretty darn tasty. And, from NZ, none are coming to mind. However, I do Mahi puts out a nice SB without the cat pee and grass.

    Molly dooker . Yes they are over the top, but sometimes we all need a little craziness. No food necessary w/ them.Just don’t over do it because they will lose their charm quickly. In sparing amounts every few months they will brighten any rainy day!

    All the fake wine nerds are dishing on Australia right now following the media like sheep. GV, why do you always taste entry level wines when tasting Aus & NZ? I think you’ve been jumping on the anti lately as well? I’ve been to Australia twice and no for fact that they make certain wines for the American market(e.g. Mollydooker, Two Hands,Bitch grenache the list go’s on.)

    People please try some real estate/Family owned wines that they actually drink in Australia not the virtual wine brands they make for us from fosters or constalations but the $20-30 range that you would buy say from CA. What $9 CA would you rate?

    I agree with one peep on the Te Mata Estate Coleraine 2005 but on my latest visit I discovered Margeret River. Although pricy this area in Australia is teaming with exceptional wine in the $20-30 range. Why don’t we get more wine from this part of Australia I wonder?? Central Otago is hands down best for Pinot,Riesling and Pinot Gris. Langehorne Creek is another sleeper that you should look at.

    QOTD: Some wine you ofered at your March 29th WLTV Party at the WineLib. Either Turkey Flat or Dead Arm Shiraz–it was a high-end shiraz. My favorite Australian wine from 10 years ago was a plain Marquis Phillips SHiraz about 12 bones. Also Frankland Estates. A Mcwilliams reserve riesling. I haven’t had any shiraz recently–they were getting too big for me. Recently opened a 2002 Craneford Petit Verdot–very enjoyable.

    Better looking crowd today–you also began to echo half-way through, so I heard everything twice.

    Aus dry Riesling is Killer and cheap. Sauvignon/Semmillon blends which we don’t seem to find in the US?

    I was lucky enough to have some Penfolds Grange about 10 years ago and it was something I not tasted before in a wine. Now I like NZ pinot. I also very much enjoy d’arenberg wine and am disappointed that the stump jump did not show well.

    gary i have to agree with ‘Igor’. As an australian i’m borderline pissed at how much you pan aussie wines. I totally agree and have made the comment on previous episodes that you are drinking australian wines that australians make or americans. Sure, we have the stump jump here, but many of the others don’t even see the light of day here. This is a real tragedy because there is a perception that you clearly have, which is negative, that is not reflective of australian wines. We have alot of different climates here, and alot of different regions. If you continue to taste wines from south australia that are made purely for export to the US you will continue to taste wines that are too big, over oaked and unbalanced. Why? because that is what some wineries here think sells in the states. It has no reflection on us, but moreso on your wine market and what is popular there.

    Go try Oakridge, Yering Station, Giant Steps, Farr Rising, Shaw and Smith, Petaluma, Teusner, Ten Minutes by Tractor, Scorpo, Moss Wood, Leeuwin Estate, Howard Park, Yarra Yering, Yeringberg, Bay of Fires, Tamar Ridge, Tyrrell’s, Clonakilla, Grosset…I could go on for a long time.

    And yeah, our $10 bottles are no better than alot of $10 bottles from california and new zealand, BUT they are no worse either. Unfortunately you take great pleasure in hammering our wines more than others. Well, my suggestion is to actually try some Australian wines that WE drink as opposed to the crap we send overseas for mass consumption.

  • Hmmm, looked more like an audition tape for the Lady in Red. Was the camera leaning towards the left or was it my imagination? Either way, I would have liked to have seen more of the cutie blonde to Mott’s right near the camera. Ok, on to the show.

    Sucky audio. C’mon, invest a couple bucks in one of those receivers you place in the middle of the desk like a conference call gizmo.

    Love the Aussie and NZ wines and so many to choose from. Sorry the Stump Jump disappointed but was there really any doubt? Less than 10 bone wines that are halfway decent are hard to come by.

    QOTD: Well, I have a ’95 Grange on its way to my cellar but since I haven’t tried it I can’t say it’s the best so I will go with my tried and true Oyster Bay SB. Inexpensive and a delight on the deck with grilled scallops, fusion cuisine and especially oysters. I actually had a glass of Mollydooker The Boxer tonight and it is so smooth and fruity it doesn’t even taste like wine if you can figure that one out.

    Nice show, I really like Aussie riesling, but I’ve never had one from New Zealand.

    QOTD: The best Aus/NZ wine I’ve ever had was the 2005 Bowen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra. It had that great combination of explosive ripeness and total elegance.
