I have been pairing Lucky Charms (no milk) with pinot noir for years. Pinot noir is also delicious with Capn Crunch with Crunchberries (no milk there either).

Loved, loved, loved the show!! It’s been a long week and a long day. Perfect way to begin my weekend and made me smile. I’m so hungry for cereal now, and we’re out of milk! Going to the store right after work.

QOTD: Always loved Lucky Charms, probably because we never had fun cereals at home, and that one is the ultimate fun!

Probably the best show in the last 100 episodes! Love it! I like the idea of watching the Oscars and having cereal, maybe I’ll do an Oscars party with cereal (definitely cinnamon toast crunch) and the Rombauer Chard, which is always a buttery goober of a wine.

QOTD: Raisin Nut Bran. Now what wine would pair well with raisins and almonds and bran flakes?

I loved the goofy show – you still aren’t going to get me to have wine with my cereal.

  • I have to agree with you Gary. Cap’n Crunch rises to the top of the cereal world. I drifted to Peanut Butter Crunch (also from the Cap’n) during my college years. A bit of Berry Crunch here and there. But it always comes back to the basic Cap’n Crunch…

Lately I’ve been on an “Oh’s” kick. Crunchy and scratches the roof of your mouth just like the Cap’n. Pairs well with many nutty sparkling wines.

MMmm. I’m hungry. Heading for the pantry for some cereal.

I heard you defend your interviewing style by saying you don’t have time to edit and things were going long. When you interrupted, you weren’t trying to move things along. You were trying to crowbar in a story that you wanted to tell or try to finish the guys story to show how smart you are. You ended up talking over each other and by the time it played out, it took longer and was more confusing that if you just let the man speak. BTW – I love the show, esp. blind tasting with no guests.

QOTD: I don’t want to come off like I’m ridin the band wagon, but Cap’n Crunch is the best. 2nd Favorite is granola – with extra raisins.

  • QOFTD: The German Market is dominated by Kelloggs. So my favorites are these slitely honeyed Smacks, folloed by the Frosties. Haven’t had them for years, while my stomach get’s in trouble with milk.

  • Creative GENIUS! You’re the many Gary, cereal and wine, I thought you would be eating the cereal dry, which I think would probably be more of a text book pairing. All the somm’s say that Dom and Lays is a text book pairing, the grease of the chips and the chrispness of the Dom. I commend you Gary, good call on the milk I never would have dreamed of that. I am now going to the grocery store to buy me some cap’n crunch because I have an awesome bottle of riesling to drink.

    QOTD: Frosted Flakes or Nesquik

QOTD: Definitely, without a doubt, Kellogg’s Cracklin’ Oat Bran. BTW, after the fact now, but I can’t believe you were seriously worried about the Jets vs. Texans. The Texans SUCK!! Living in Houston I’m glad I’m not a football fan (anymore).

  • What a fun AND informative episode, Gary. Wine and cereal…who knew? Well, I guess you did, eh. This episode was so fun I’ll be watching it again at some point.

QOTD: My favourite cereal would have to be plain granola with a dash of honey, topped off by fresh blueberries and some bits o’ dark chocolate mixed in for good measure.

I also love parfaits – plain German yogurt with German/Austrian/Swiss müesli. Mmm, delicious.

As for a mainstream boxed American brand, my pick is Post Cranberry Almond Crunch.

So, what wines do you think would go best with these?

QOTD: Capn Crunch. Always has been since it dethroned the milk-pouringly-challenged, bowl-shaped Quisp 35 years ago (which had detroned Quake in their titanic national challenge a few years before that). No comparison. And I am sooo going to pair my next bowl of the Capn with that spatlese riesling.

    Great episode!

Brilliant episode. And F those guys who think your interviewing sucks. You are right on: if you can’t edit the video then the right thing to do as the host is move it along.

QOTD: It’s all about Peanut Butter Captain Crunch!! But regular is a close second…
