  • QOTD: Although I do like the sweet cereals, like you had on this episode, from time to time. My all time favorite is Post (they make it the best) Raisin Bran.

I think of it more old world than the new world (California sunshine, if you will) sugary cereals like the Cap’n. There’s a earthiness that dominates with hints of dark fruit in the background.

Gary, I’m looking forward to meeting you in Seattle for your book signing! Great show, I enjoy cereal a little too much… my wife has to keep me from going crazy in the cereal aisle when we go to the grocery store.

QOTD – This cereal is nigh impossible to find, but when I do find it, I usually end up purchasing 10+ boxes: Rice Krispie Treats Cereal. If ANY self-respecting rice krispie treat lover stumbles across this miraculous purple box, please do yourself a favor and BUY IT ALL. Here’s a shot of the box so you can prepare yourself –

You can’t be the CTC. Hands down the best cereal ever. It also doesn’t cut your mouth.

  • Gary — definitely one of the most interesting episodes yet…I have recently become a big Riesling fan myself so this was especially cool for me.

QOTD – Cinnamon Toast Crunch (but if I’m on a health kick I have to go special K Red berries)

  • Wow – That was an episode from left-field.. Who would have thought Wine and Cereal?? I guess cereal doesn’t have to be just eaten at breakfast – its a great snacking food..
I am definitely going to try that very soon – not sure what wine?? Need to have a think about it

QOTD…UNCLE TOBYS (AUS)Instant Oats with honey – 1 min in the microwave – DELISH!!!

Interesting episode…If I were to try this type of pairing, I would probably leave the milk out of the cereal. And I definitely wouldn’t let the cereal get soggy!
QOTD: Cap’n Crunch is by far the best cereal..unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to eat it too often as a kid because it’s “unhealthy” or something silly like that, but those berry-licious crunchy morsels are spectacular and I enjoyed them frequently during my college years.

Damn! Now, I’m gonna have to go out and buy a box of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes — the best cereal ever (QOTD)! And I think a nice Michigan Riesling would go well, too.

G…I so wanted to put my hand thru thr screen and wipe the milk off your face. You must have driven your Mom crazy at the table.

I recently had the Landmark Chard. and thought the same as you…not the 92 it was given. Decent, but, that was about it.

QOTD: Trader Joe’s cherry crunch. Seriously, if you have a TJ’s around you, peruse their cereal section and get this or the pecan cluster. F’ing amazing.

  • Great show Gary.

Cereal has always been my go to meal for breakfast, afternoon snack, and midnight snack.

Captain Crunch is definitely one of the great brands of all time.
    Captain Crunch = cereal.

  • QOD: I’m also a cereal lover and I can’t think of any that I DON’T like but my favorite “junk food” cereal is Frosted Flakes.. hands down. As a teen I would do a “Jethro Bowl” for dinner. Now, I’m a good girl and end up eating whole grain, low sugar, organic stuff as a rule but will eat the occasional bowl of kids’ cereal for a treat.

Cereal and wine. No. Nope. No Sir. If I see anybody pairing these together (or hear them talking about it) I will know they are Gary-Robots because cereal and wine is, quite frankly, an idea whose time does not exist.

Quaker Oats should offer you a lifetime supply of Cap’n Crunch for that one!

I really enjoy fresh bread and wine, so I guess the use of sugar and grain as cereal isn’t too much of a stretch for a pairing and I understand the fat content of milk and how it coats the palette; but still, I think cereal bars would be more inviting and presentable at a gathering.

qotd: Chex: “any way you want it.”

Boy, you are a cereal chow hound. Frosted mini Wheats when I can handle that much sugar.

Good show Gary. It’s good to see you go off into a different direction sometimes. You should do this more often from time to time instead of once every year and half or so.

  • My favorite cereals would have to be Capt’n Crunch, Peanut Butter Crunch, Reeses Puffs, Cocoa Puffs, and Lucky Charms. When I am feeling healthy I go with the Rasin Bran Crunch.

And don’t worry. The Jets will beat the Titans easily. Titans are gonna be terrible this year.

Nice show, although I can’t think of a time when I would actually reach for wine while enjoying a bowl of cereal.

QOTD: This is a toughy… As a kid, I was always a cinnamon toast crunch guy, but as I’ve grown more mature (yeah right…), Honey Bunches of Oats has taken the lead.

    GV,
Gotta say I agree with Mr. Mott on this one…I’m much more of a fan of Golden Grahams (especially soggy style) as opposed to Toast Crunch. In all my years of drinking the vino I have never thought of pairing wines with cereal (also one of my fave foods)…Definitely something to look in to. Please have faith in our J-E-T-S!! The Mark Sanchez era begins this week & I KNOW you’re ready!

I cannot wait to try the captain crunch amd riesling paring, I admit that I only think of wine when I am eating well planned meals. Good learning experience here.

OK, this is the reason I watch GV and buy his recommendations. He does stuff that no one does. I mean who the hell pairs wine with cereal? A bit of honesty here, I tried drinking wine while eating a cereal once and the milk in the cereal kind of ruined it for me. The milk seemed to neutralize the wine and the flavors didn’t mesh. Maybe I was drinking the wrong wine.

QOTD: Kix cereal is my favorite.
